a freind of mine put this on the official forums - = : A Documentary On The Noob : = - * * * If you are a Non-Member and you read this thread, please contact me through Private Message, In-game. * * * [ Free Bumps Are Appreciated! ] Noob [Neub] (n.) A player who is new the game. An inexperienced player. (ad.) Inexperienced, New. **The proof of the word Noob meaning new player, please read Noob Vs. Newb** There are two types of Noobs... --Stereotypical Noob - The regular Noob. Begs, scams, insults, may be annoying. --Real Noob - The actual Noob. Nice, helps when he can. Does not scam, insult, or beg. Noobs are commonly found around Runescape. They are the most common creatures of all. When you see one, you think it is the Stereotypical one, well after reading this, you will think differently about them and may understand why they are usually Stereotypical Noobs. The transformation from Real Noob to Stereotypical Noob is quick and very common. You will learn what causes it, how to stop it, and how to change a Noob back when it happens. (For more information about the Transformation, See the post Transformation) = : Basic Information : = - Well, to start, Noobs are Mammals. They are Omnivorous, meaning they will eat both meat and plants. Noob hobbies include fishing, woodcutting, firemaking, s laying, and the odd hobby of collecting and keep items that they know nothing about or have no use for. They will commonly try to copy other players in the tasks they see them performing, such as mining, smithing, and other skills. When the Noob sees other players attempting to get items from players illegally, he will copy these players, thinking it is alright to do that, this makes the Noob change from a Noob to a scammer. When a Noob makes the change, he rarely goes back, but when he tries to go back, it is almost always too late, as he may be banned - = : Insults : = - The Noob is commonly a nice player, and will try to help out other players his/her level. Unfortunately, higher level players tend to make fun of the Noob, calling him a Noob and other variations on the word. As he doesn't know what this means, he will normally take it as an insult, and become bitter towards all high level players. When a good high level player tries to help out a Noob, the Noob will try to avoid him or even insult him, as he is used to being insulted. - = : Beggars : = - Although the Noob may be good at heart, they are infamous for one thing... Begging. Begging is the art of continuously asking a player for items or money. As the Noob sees players begging, just like the scammers, he will attempt to mimic these beggars, thinking he can get items for free. Unfortunately, when a player does give a beggar an item or money, he will beg even more. - = : Leetspeak : = - Many people misunderstand the language Leetspeak as the Noob language. It is really H@x0r language, or for most experienced players in other online games. Not everyone uses it, not everyone even understands it, but some players still use it. A common phrase is used that is the stereotypical Noob sentance. That sentance is Phr33 $+00ph Pl0x . The sentances is meant to mean Free Stuff Please . In Leetspeak, F would be replaced by Ph, as it makes the same sound. As for the other letters in Leetspeak, you make the symbol that looks most like the letter. Here is another example: Hello, I am Link. |-|3Ll0 1 @m l1|\|K - = : Facts About The Noob : = - These are some things about Noobs that you can use to help you, and the Noob out. --Noobs are commonly found in Free Worlds --Noobs will ask what items are, if they have not seen them before. --Noobs are not always beggars. --Noobs are often mean to levels lower than him. If you see a Noob being mean to a different player, then tell him to stop. --Most level 100+ will ignore the Noob. --Most Mod's will ignore the Noob. --Noobs tend to trade people at random. If they trade you, even if you know you don't want anything they will have, just see what they put them up, then say No thanks . --Even if you know you don't want what they put up, buy something from them just to give them a few GP. --Noobs sometimes mix up towns. --They also seem to like taking the scenic routes to towns. (Starting in Falador and going through Lumbridge to get to Varrock) - = : Helping The Noob : = - These are some ways to help out the Noob if you ever encounter one, in your many adventures. --If you see a Noob mistreating another player, tell him to stop. --If a Noob starts to talk to you, talk with him, don't ignore him. --When a Noob asks about an item, answer him. --When a Noob asks about an item that you are wearing, answer him. --When a Noob asks about anything, answer him --Be nice to them, they become a stereotypical Noob because of people mistreating them. --If you see a scammer Noob, report him and tell him that he will be banned if he does not stop scamming. --When they mix up cities (Falador = Varrock?), tell them the correct city name, don't keep them confused --Always carry a few Newcomer maps with you in free worlds, if you see a Noob that's wandering around aimlessly, give him one - = : Noob Vs. Newb : = - -- Thormen -- The word 'noob' origins from the English word 'newcomer' (Ludan-(censor)-us Novus, mammal) which means someone who is new to the particular thing it is all about. In this case, Runescape. The transformation of the word 'newcomer' to 'newbie' and, finally, to 'noob' has been a process that explains the above theory. Higher level players (Ludani Diutii, mammals) often called the newcomer 'newbie' or 'newb'. The newcomer did not know what this meant, so they used it as uncensored abusive language. The traditional noobish (censor) tongue has translated the vowels into the vowels they use and their pronunciation. This language also includes the words 1337 (pronounce: leet), and p00n4g (pronounce: pou-nage). The word 'noob' is often written as 'n0-©-0b'. = : Transformation : = - -- Aprzepioski -- Good Noobs: Most loyal Noobs that work for cheap/free and help other players usually turn out to be strong successful players on this game from experience they got from working and also become mods for their helpfulness. Bad Noobs: Noobs that are bitter because of higher level players making fun of them usually become very successful in total level to overcome that higher level, then rub it in their face. Worse is that they think they are the higher level player and do the same thing as what that higher level player did to them. It's never ending. These players become extremely bitter and eventually quit playing and right before they do so, they cause trouble or later, after deciding to quit, make a hobby of scamming and breaking rules. - = : Good Luck : = - After reading this, you most likely have gotten the point; Noobs are commonly mistreated and misunderstood. If you don't like the Stereotypical Noob, then help out the Real Noob. You know the difference now and what causes it. Hopefully you will now help out Noobs when you can and protect them from the Transformation.
