  1. Unfortunately, spewing logical sounding crap isnt constituted as breaking a rule, nor the level of criticism I'd like to read here... It's some people's version of Glenn Beck's "I'm only asking the question!"... If it was really that illogical surely you wouldn't get upset about it because you know in your heart of hearts they are wrong? It is a bit rich for the staff of the Times to hit out at people that are posting negative things and calling them petty when they are being just that. Actually I would get upset, because not only is the illogical-ness of it infecting the rest of the community (have epople not recently shouted that the commnity is in the toilet?), but when people proceed to insult the writers personally, the line has been crossed... And I have every right to call a turd a turd, even if that turd can speak :) And Soma2035... Just because we cannot prove how many quest capes are out there, doesn't mean the author can not asume quests are not popular... I can make an argument of "Just because you dont liek quests... etc", but I wont... Quests are, considering the amount of feedback on the official forums, at least as popular as any skill is... The difference is that once you complete a quest, you can never do it again, and skills simply dont dissapear... We will probably disagree on that, which is fine by me, but continuing to state that this "asumption" validates any and all mud slung at the author, is simply wrong...
  2. Nah, I'm going to leave the limits of where criticism ends and where flaming begins up to the mods ;) Btw, what has Obama or american politics to do with this? Not only can you not write, but have you forgotten to read as well? I mentioned Glenn Beck and Fox news to make a comparrisson to how you act in this community, mainly on this thread... Your personal political views dont interest me...
  3. You may indeed ask that, Bladewing... But I am the wrong person to ask, because so far, everything I have written, did recieve criticism and I either agreed or disagreed with those critiques after a debate... But the critisicm was ON MY ARTICLE... Not on me personally... It is that difference why I will defend other people from attacks from the likes of stonewall and yourself (I havent forgotten your stunt last week)...
  4. I can handle opinions I dont like... But once again you are trying to point out flaws in others that are really your own... Faulty logic? Have you read to your last 4 posts? It's fine for pointing it out up to a point, take the example of some of the more, shall we say, "restraint" responders here. They tend to stay within the boundries of normal and polite discussion... So start with pointing out your own mistakes in logic first? Same for writing ;)
  5. Maybe SOME people shouldn't be criticising voluntairly written articles by a standard of thesis writers? Like it or not, this is the best the community has to offer, cuz noone sane enough would want to write month after month and then proceed to listen to your [cabbage]storm :)
  6. Unfortunately, spewing logical sounding crap isnt constituted as breaking a rule, nor the level of criticism I'd like to read here... It's some people's version of Glenn Beck's "I'm only asking the question!"... Missing the point seems to be something I learned from you then? ;) Actually I got your point, but your writing brings it across rather differently... Something you will gladly flame someone else for (your little pot starts to turn rather black there)... Anywho, you DID say that someone disagreeing with a certain statement may actually be considered enough to disprove that statement... I would just LOVE to rub your face in it again, but you're making it too easy... Instead I will fight your other point; that the writer of the article is supposed to be held to a higher standard than the person criticising it... Again, you try to be the alpha-male here without having a leg to stand on... If you want to criticise an article, you damn well better know what you are talking about... These articles are written on a voluntairy basis, and we intent to write for your enjoyment... If you don't enjoy the articles, don't read em, do not start attacking the writers for it... We will gladly put up with your crap... But not for free... Do like Returnofmic or Sir_Squab... These guys get it spot on; debate the article, debate the opinions, and disagree if you must, and do it without nitpicking... But DO NOT berate the writer for having that opinion... It makes you look like a cliché smart-mouth, just asking for an asswhooping... And yet somehow, with some of the people here (and these idiots will never understand that it is THEM that I am talking about), it does turn personal...
  7. Wow... This goes for a lot for people responding in this thread: L2DISTINGUISHFACTSUSEDFORARGUEMENTATIVEREASONSFROMOPINIONS FACT: Conquest is not NEARLY as popular as Pest Control, Soul Wars, Castle Wars or even Barbarian Assault. Why? Simply put, Pest Control gets you Commendation points much faster, and therefor most people will play Conquest only to get a rank higher than 1250 for the Void Deflector, just like a lot of people used to train Slayer to 85 and not higher... See what I did there? Its not an opinion I stated, but a fact, backed up by logical reasoning of why the things are the way they are... Now an opinion; I find the minigame Conquest "horrific" in the sense that I am rather rewards driven, and would therefor play Pest Control sooner than Conquest. The author has used both examples to make his ONLY point in his opinionated piece. He has come to a conclusion and warns the community about more and more minigames possibly becoming part of quests and diaries (you can bet your ass that the Wilderness Diary will include a game of Stealing Creation)... What?! You really are the FOX news of these forums are you not? Glen Beck could not have done it better himself... You literally claim that, as a reader and responder, you do not need proof because the simple fact that you disagree is proof enough? Are you completely [developmentally delayed]ed? If you truly believe this, than it is no surprise to me that you never even got a response back from the Times Panel... Responses like these are the sole reason this community is turning into a mudslinging flamefest, and I have now made it my personal mission to have people like you banned form these forums... are ones I hope to never see attached to another TIF times article. Is it horrific, well that is more due if anything to the quality of the PLAYERS then anything else. There are balance issues, etc, but the game more often fails because the players are either clueless, or they just don't care. He is not wrong though... Those things that you name are one of the many reasons that make it a horrible minigame to play, especially since there is no mention from Jagex of fixing it in the near future. But here's my advise; since you do not want to see conclusions drawn by authors on the Tip.it Times article anymore, based on their own experience, I'd say stop readng the Times? You are not obliged to read it about being obliged to play a minigame in order to complete a quest :) You do realise that the Times panel is ALLOWED to write opinionated, don't you? But, have to tried playing Soulwars on one of the designated worlds? If you have, then you'd agree with the author on this. I agree with you that Pestcontrol is still massivly popular, but as I previously said; Conquest's popularity will die down once everyone has their shiny deflector... Again, you missed the point too... He talked about the emergent trend that minigames and diaries are becoming more integrated into quests. He doesn't like it at all because it looks like blatent ploy to get us to play underused content which is underused for a different reason than lack of exposure... His opinion of it is one of disgust, but signalling the trend is undebatable.. I'll go easy on you, not because you're a clan member of mine, but because you're relativly new to these boards, but what you wrote there is borderline flaming. You're not wrong about Rune Mechanics, but calling the author an inbred monkey, especially if the language in the article is sound, goes too far... Just like i said to Stonewall; you don't have to read these articles if you don't want to, even I am not forcing you :)
  8. And here... we... go! Nice reasoning there... Your argument completely validates your points due to its well thought-out piece of intelligent TROLLING THAT YOU DUMP ON THESE FORUMS!!! Go away, noone wants you here... I happen to like the first article. The 2nd and 3rd article too, but since everyone already agrees with me there, I dont feel the need to discuss those... I like it because it takes a controversial point of view, and manages to explain it in a coherent and intelligent and UNDERSTANDABLE way... It is one of the articles out there that has the potential to change someone's mind about how they feel about, in this case, putting a "taste of minigames" in quests... The author saw it happen twice (three times if you count Diaries) and thinks this will become a trend to "promote" otherwise unused content in the future. He feels that if the content is unpopular it is not a fault of under-exposure, but rather of what that content itself has to intice us to play it... Well done.
  9. How does the spec work in clanwars? Does it hit 3 opponents? If it does, its a nice way to open up the fight and decimate some of your opponents :D
  10. The Void Stares Back felt rushed to me. Teleporting straight to the hide out? At least they hung a flag on it by saying it was convinient... White, Void and Black knights, nice touch, so why did the Temple Knights get involved in the very last minute? Why did the player not attempt to keep the alliance alive? No interaction with the NPC's involved with the quest afterwards, except for Commodore Tyr. I would have expected to at least be able to chat with Jessika/Korasi... TBH, the one thing Grandmaster quests have in common is that people die in it permanently enough to alter the game (substitute NPC's or dissapearing altogether like Hazelmere), so it has that at least... (btw this bit also goes in a reply to update thread...)
  11. Actually, I did not come in defense of Racheya except for the obvious mistakes I like to point out in some people's reasoning. I only stepped in when Bladewing said that the Editorial Panel is a circle jerk of friends... I could not care less how good or badly written people think the article was, just as you don't care for my opinion on it (if you did, you wouldve asked)... Calling the Times panel a clique is FAR from the truth, believe me... Oh and if you don't believe me, don't worry... I don't care :) Ever heard of guest articles, yeah? People here don't know we have quite a backlog of them, and are used mostly in an emergency (writers block?)... I don't have a say in it at all, but I prefer keeping the number of debatalbe articles down to a minimum, so the discussions about them do not get intertwined too much...
  12. I wont be trying to live up to that... This will be my first full multi part story I ever wrote... the only remotely fictional thing I once wrote is also a Times article (found here), so do not expect a beauty ;)
  13. LOL @ previous post :) now beware of stonewalls wrath :P @Jrhairychest: The setting will be Rellekka, in a particularly harsh winter :ohnoes: I'll go into full detail in the prologue which will be published on November 7th...
  14. Hmm... I'm actually set to write a fictional for the Times, spanning november AND december... If he's willing to give his opinion, I'd be humbled no matter what he says :D
  15. Lol... I know there's some sarcasm in there somewhere ;)
  16. 1: Glad to see you still respect it as such then :) 2: Uhh, several people (including me) pointing out the same one, several times on this thread... 3: Guilty by association, if that isnt pulling things out of context I dunno what is :) @Rach: that was Bladewing if I am not mistaken, not Stonewall :)
  17. @Pere Grin; He did actually, last line on the previous page ;) @Stonewall: Do you really mean this? So, you are for allowing anything, as long as it is in the rules? I should hold you to this. From now on, you have NO excuse to complain against anything which is within RS rules, and Jagex ToS. No more complaining about 76k'ers, rushers, etc. The article was not about 76k or PK style ;) Also @ person below me; this flurry of posts isnt goign to die down any time soon, and I doubt the current tone of voice (so to speak) wont either :P
  18. Many people is not everyone else :P Debating semantics is ok at one place, but I'd so see the overall point of the article debated, not the wording, thats for a different place... So I hereby nominate you to be invited to be one of the Times' editors :)
  19. But if you criticize the writers, you kinda DO have to prove that ;) Anywho, breeding ground for groupthink? I can only wish that. We do not talk as much amongst one another as much as I would like. If I knew what every writer was up to, I could tune my articles to that... Btw, just a curious question; How DO you think the Editorial Panel (lets call it by its name) is set up?
  20. Ok... Now you've done it... Now I feel I need to get involved, and I'll leave it up to you if you wanted it to come to that... Racheya wrote an article about the efficiency wars, and has drawn from many different sources and viewpoints, which to me, seem to be explaining her own. I think the topic is seriously done to death (fun vs accomplishment, which in my opinion are the same in RS cuz you need one for the other). But Racheya obviously managed to get everyone fired up to discuss their opinion and experiences, both positive and negative. I wouldnt have dared to touch this subject, but Racheya obviously had the balls to do it, so kudos for that. If you read thoroughly through the article, you can see it is her own opinion. At the Times we are free to write whatever the hell we want. Opinion, fact, analysis, fiction, its all good. We write these articles for your enjoyment, and hopefully bring you to think about something you havent thought of, or get you to think about something in a different way than you're used to... I've seen the Times change over the almost three years that I have been with it. From one article a week, to a peak of four articles a week, we settled on two, maybe three, supplemented by a fictional or a guest article... But sometimes there is not much to write about as there is little news, nothing to analyse, and sometimes our own well runs dry. This is only natural, and this shines through in our articles. We are therefor constantly looking for new writers and constructive criticism to refresh our pool of ideas... But when people like Stonewall337 start disecting every single word we've written down, pulling it out of context and then blame us for the fact that it does not make sense, does not encourage us to get engaged in the conversation about our own articles. I see people like him as the Fox News of these boards, needlessly finding problems that don't exist and then demanding a solution for it. I myself don't mind criticism, and god knows I've had my share of it. It is impossible to please everyone everytime, you all know the cliché. But some people will simply never be satisfied, and I ignore those just like everyone else would. Bladewing calls the Tip.it Times a "circle jerk of friends who refuse to listen to criticism". But he has it worded all wrong. We are a circle of friends who refuse to listen to criticism from jerks. This circle is open to everyone who thinks he can write. But even after articles like "So you think you can Times" we've not had many decent applicants. And even in the editorial panel we sometimes disagree (see my third scentence), but we will not get in one another's way to write what we want to write. Nor did I have to suck up to anyone to get in. I was invited a long time ago. This invitation was based on my forum posts at the time, and this is still one of the ways they are recruiting for the panel. We do listen to intelligent and constructive criticism that we can use. But simply pointing out what is wrong without a hint of how it SHOULD have been written, is everything but constructive or helpful. Think you can do better? SHOW us...
  21. I know, which is why I PM them with a detailed description (even though I'll leave them lots of room to fill in themselves)... And not throw the story on this thread, which everyone can see :)
  22. Back in my day, people were outraged at coal going from 100gp each to 150gp each, ad inflation had to be stopped!
  23. You know... I WAS goign to ask here to have someone explain to me why the discussion is seemlingly endless when it comes to No Lifers vs Just Doing Whats Neccisary vs Just Here To Have Fun... And then it hit me; we ALL fall into each one of these catergories at one point or another in our RS careers, so we all debate the different points of view... It's simply never going to settle, at least not untill Jagex just gives everyone 99s in everything...
  24. Well thats the thing, I dont want to give too much away of the story :) I will PM each of you with the few pieces that have yet to be accepted by people to make :) Hopefully you guys can be of service...
  25. Hello. Some of you may know me as one of the writers for the Tip.it Times... Soon I'll be writing a fictional article of (probably) 8 chapters long, and for each chapter I would like to add to the feeling by having a picture, painting, photo, whatever, that would capture the feeling of that particular chapter... I know roughly what I want, and with a short description I'll leave the rest to be filled out for you. You will be creditted on the Tip.it Times itself, of course. Post here or PM me, and we'll talk about which picture (or pictures) you can make for me :) Thanks in advance.
