Tip.It Times - 5th September 2010
Ah... I was there, but counting heads on the pictures, the estimate I made on the article was more or less correct as I can find no more then 42 individuals (even though we expected almost 60 people to show up) on the pictures

Tip.It Times - 5th September 2010
Looks like some things again need some clarifying again (mainly towards Yomi?)... I've never stated people aren't allowed to voice their own opinion. Nor have I told people to shut up about mine. The only people (I will include reasons why) that should "shut the hell up" are these: - The people claiming they wouldn't want to be caught dead at a thing like RuneFest, which they then rapidly dubbed the whole thing a GeekFest. I think I can safely asume 100% of the people that read my article at one point played RuneScape. Some of these players are a lot more tenacious then others, and a small portion love to completely immerse themselves in the world of RuneScape, and an even smaller portion of that last group could be found (amongst others) at Runefest. One fact stands out here. We all play runescape. The only thing that varies is the level of commitment to the game and immersion in its world. Hence the very first group of people (the ones that would never attend somethign like RuneFest) have no right to call it Geekfest, because they themselves are part of the very same experience. The only difference is the level. - The people that claim that they would have attended RuneFest if it was free. In no way did I try to imply the cost of travel, hotels and other expenses in this. Nor did I suggest you should skip a month's rent to attend RuneFest. The people I mean with my statement are the ones that said right after the ticket price change that if they knew the ticket was going to be free, they would have ordered one. These people in my eyes are no better then the ones shouting "phr33 st00f pl0x!" at the GE. Jagex has decided to walk this path to be able to make the Runefest 010 group consist mostly of true fans to the game. This does not imply that if you could not afford a ticket (for whatever reason) you are not a true fan of RuneScape, a distinction lost on many on these forums. I agree that Jagex had to do something to achieve that goal, and so far noone has come up with a better solution to reach it. Whoever suggested it, a lottery would not have achieved this. - The people that want a Flagstaff, even though they have had nothing to do with RuneFest. Pretty self explanatory, but in light of recent comments, here goes. I was not around when certain Holiday Items were given out. I do not have a Scythe or a Rubber Chicken, and I do not think I deserve one even though for some reason Jagex is handing out old emotes and items for new holidays. I will not be at a RuneFest if it is held in the U.S. so I will miss out on whatever item they give for that. Do I complain? No. I was not there, so I do not deserve it. Neither do people deserve the Flagstaff that have had nothing to do with RuneFest. The food price issue at RuneFest itself can only be commented on by people who attended RuneFest. Fortunately, most of those people tend to agree with me, so that saves me at least one explanation :) Jonananas seems to be one of the few who has understood what exactly I meant, kudos to him. To the rest an apology again if you felt offended or got surprised by the little rant bit, as I previously stated and as you may have already argued; it was probably not directed at you, unless you fit in one of the above named categories. Peace PS: RuneFest saw (and I am a poor estimater) anywhere between 400 and 600 people attending. So where number 50 comes from, I don't know.

Tip.It Times - 5th September 2010
[hide] Here is something someone else posted elsewhere that is a pretty astute commentary on this subject, in my opinion: So, while I am glad you enjoyed the event and from the looks of it it was probably a nice little get together, lets try to be a little critical shall we, instead of just expending the benefit of the doubt upon Jagex recklessly(though, on Tip.it that has been long established as the norm by this point.) And here we were all thinking they were gauging the interest in the event(which would be a sensible approach) before booking a venue but it appears they were a step ahead. :^o Here, by the way, is a P-Moderator who is typically quite on the 'Pro-Jagex side', his take on the matter, to give some perspective: Both of these were extracted from the Runescoop thread on the matter. Anyways, if you bought into the event, great, but don't tell the rest of us to "shut the hell up" because we happen to opine differently or because we happen to think about it critically rather than drooling over the event like a preppy little school girl. Aside from that, not a bad article about the event by any stretch of the imagination, quite a good recap. First of all, of course MMG may have lied, but he may also have said the truth. Who knows? I wouldn't trust some "hidden page", why would they put the info there? A long time there was also an adress of some area in london(I don't exactly know how the english system works here) and it turned out to be a ticket selling station of ticketmaster. Also, on the Pmods post, that guy is an idiot. MMG was talking about the ticket price and about that only. It's not their fault someone lives far away and they can't do anything bout it. Considering its their first event, they sure as hell won't scale some in different locations simultaneously. MMG sure as hell didn't expect anyone to pay for the ticket instead of mortgages, college or bills. If you do that, you're an idiot. He means that you are willing to spend 75 pounds on this convention instead of buying two new computer games. Of course the method is controversial, but, although "dividing wheat from chaff" sounds too elitist too me, its basically true. If the convention was free from start on, they would have loads of idiots who basically don't care about the game, but oh well, might as well go. If you ask for the money, you will get two groups of people: 1.those who moderately care about runescape and just have a lot of money(a rather small group) 2.and those with an average income, dedicated to this game(but not addicted...those will rather stay in their cellars and just continue to play runescape) Of course its a bit unfair on those who have rather few money, but as said, you have to get immature idiots out of it somehow. I'm sure Jagex will love it if you come up with a better solution one that does not exclude anyone based on their richness. also, on the rant bit...yes it was a bit over the top, but he doesn't direct "shut the hell up" to those who think differently, he directs it to: 1.those saying everyone going to runefest are nerds(in a negative way, meaning they have no social skills, live in their basement playing runescape 24/7 etc.) - which is not true 2.those complaining that they would've gone to runefest too if they knew that it was free - for not being really dedicated to the game, although once again this is a bit unfair to those with few money 3.those demanding for a flaggstaff 4.and the ridiculous complain about food and drinks costing. I don't see him bashing those who have another opinion, but simply the idiots who have to feel important, want stuff they don't deserve and are so narrow-minded to believe everyone going there has no real life. [/hide] Thank you, you said it all... I am uncertain if the Vinopolis was the 2ndairy location, I have not seen any confirmations or screenshots or anything about that, so, in this case I tend to believe MMG. Also, the place as packed to the brim... Also Yomi, whatever you think about Tip.it being in Jagex's pocket; I just write stuff and Tip.it posts it on the front page once a month. Quite a few of my pieces have expressed criticism to Jagex as well... Finally, another reason to make the tickets free AFTER announcing they have sold out is of course to prevent people re-selling their tickets for profit (some people actually did that with tickets that were not going to be used, the bastards)...

Tip.It Times - 5th September 2010
That third party happens to be a considerable part of the demographic of RuneScape (just check out some of the topics on the Runefest forums). If it was just a hand full of people I would not have addressed the issue at all, but a lot of RuneFest go-ers I have spoken with are quite anoyed by the people I "lashed out at". Regardless if you find it degrading or not, your comment of "Tip.it being beaten at their own game" has competition written all over it, so at least on that part, I did asume that of you. But despite the fact that many people still like to think so, the Tip.it Times is not an actual newspaper. We may aspire to have comparable quality, but I know that none of the current writers are on that level, despite the best of efforts. We are not professionals, and write merely for the enjoyment of others. You may not like what you read, but many others do and that is all that matters. Apparently, some people feel that the rant bit is out of place in the article. You are perhaps right, but it is that emotion that comes up with many RuneFest go-ers when another idiot trolls up to the RuneFest forums, demanding he deserves a Flagstaff too. The same emotions that wash over you when you just planted that same Flagstaff, and people come up to you and start insulting you, calling you nerd, geek, loser or whatever, when they are enjoying the very same game that caused you to decide to go to Runefest. The same goes for the numerous people claiming to have gone if it was free. I understand money is an issue to some. It is even an issue to me, but I had decided on making the trip to London my holiday for the year anyways. Could Jagex have handled things a little more sensitivly? Yes, I even said so in my article. But I am reminded of a giant festival in my own country. Lowlands (one of europe's biggest) has sold out all of its 70k tickets only three days after ticket sales opened up, without a single band having been anounced to be playing there. Why? Because people know the festival, just in the same way that we know Jagex. Jagex needed to to seperate wheat from chaff some how, and I tend to agree that they did indeed need to. That will without a doubt unleash the comments of elitism, but I can guarantee you that a lot of RuneFesters will agree (so aim those comments to Jagex as well?). And Das, even without you having been at RuneFest, or me having been to some of your cons, you will agree there is a difference between Revenge of the Nerds-type nerds, and the people that attend these cons. I'm sorry if people felt personally insulted by the rant, most likely it was not even aimed at you. As I said, you are perhaps right that it does not fit with the article, but I felt it neccisary to address the issue, even though it may never properly reach the type of people it was aimed at.

Tip.It Times - 5th September 2010
Settling scores? Making mistakes? Just because you do not have the intellect to understand what I wrote, means it is a mistake. Obviously you feel insulted that you did not get to be there, and are lashing out. Stop it, it does not become you. Noone was asked, or told, or forced. I was at Runefest to enjoy myself and the company of others first and foremost of all. Writing a review of Jagex' first real life event for players came 2nd, but my opinion was that it would make a good editorial. 100% of the people I have spoken at RuneFest about the Tip.it Times said they were looking forward to my review, and 99% of the people I have spoken to think it is a good article. Your opinion means nothing to me as it has no criticism other then it being latE? Keep in mind, my stay in London lasted to the 31st of August, so it was impossible for me to get anything before the deadline of last sunday's Times publications. They may have been better (easier?) reads for you, but why would that stop me from writing my own review? Oh yes, its a review, not a diary that I made, which may have come across as less personal. I must say (I already did in the article) that I have met His Lordship and Stokenut and the other Wilderness Guardians, and they were, along with the rest of the Night Before crowd, the most awesome bunch of people I have ever met. There was no competition or game of who writes the best piece about RuneFest. EVERYONE felt the need to express how they felt about RuneFest, it was just that awesome... And I am SO GLAD you weren't there...

It wasnt an awkward walk at all. I was hoping to give them the box before getting jumped by security :) And I told Paul it was a Random Event gift :) But the mic didnt pic it up... And thanks for the compliment... Weird thing is; this is the first article where I feel I didn't do justice to the subject I'm writing about...

Tip.It Times - 5th September 2010
A rectification and a clarification: The one that stays ON the balance beam won, of course... And this: "BESIDES all of the above, I couldn't find a single thing that I liked about this event." means that I DID like all the stuff mentioned... Apparently some people read right past this and saw this as another critical piece of Jagex, while I can't imagine anyone ever doing a better job... Yes, I meant to write it in this way, because it should make you read it twice...

So if another name is on that card, I'd make a photo copy of the card also, just to be safe... Hacking in the true sense of the word is too much effort for just 1 rs account, so that will never happen... Hacking as claimed by many people is, well you read the article... I believe the reason that people admit it so readily (without admitting to anything else) is that they know they dont get caught anyways... Eye opening? yeah... Surprisingly unexpected? nah...

So... Link to one of Bilrach's last entries in his journal (click = spoil) RuneScape's final boss... Was I right, or was I not?

Tip.It Times - 15th August 2010
^this=ownage Seriously guys, every time Stormage writes an article you tear him to shreds. As the old folks would say, You got your come-up-ance! I don't really doubt the validity of his claim because I seen that happening with the friends I had on my friend list too. A portion of them at some point in time weren't on but someone else is on instead. Many people said that sharing between best friend or family member is alright is sort of gray area. But if you really want to clear it up, I rather be black and white and exclude any type of sharing, otherwise people will use their own reasoning and excuses for proper justification. [/hide] You failed to mention if this was "a scientifcally accountable survey" or not...

Tip.It Times - 15th August 2010
I think I stated in my article how I got my data... But if you must know, I asked a total of 239 random people (just going up to them in RS and asking them), 188 of which are in a clan of some sort. This was done on random world numbers, so I wouldnt know if I got on a F2P or a P2P world, but if I was on a themed world, I'd visited whatever was done on that world the most and ask people there, all over a protracted period of time of several weeks. The 51 people that were not in a clan, 22 still had friends that also played RS, or RS players that turned into friends, and out of those 22, 5 admitted to sharing. The 188 that were in a clan, 172 have similar friends, and of those 172, 130 admitted to sharing. The two questions asked were fi they had any friends in rs, and the 2nd was if they had ever shared password etc data with that friend. I did not save any names, I just tallied it on a whiteboard that i have hanging on the wall... But, if this is not good enough for you (which for some people it will without a doubt not be), go make a random inconspicuous account name and go out in the world and ASK YOURSELF...
-
Tip.It Times - 15th August 2010
70% of all people? No, just those who have a friend that also is/became a runescape player, or vice versa... When you look at competative clans the density is considerably larger, but the 70% is the average of all the people fitting in the category mentioned... Whether you choose to belive it or not is of no concern to anyone but yourself, but I have no reason to lie in an article... With several people already admitting (publicly, rather than privately to me) on this thread that they once had access to an account that was not their own, only confirms it all.
-
Tip.It Times - 15th August 2010
Actually... by "how long" we meant how long into the dicussion thread... Turns out it took only 7 replies, something I'd expected... Mirror was of the opinion that noone would dare admitting account sharing...
-
Tip.It Times - 15th August 2010
Heh... Me and Mirrorforced had been debating how long it would take for someone admitting they shared accoutns at some point...

what are the chances of a second "stone of jas" being in runescape?
Almost :) Guthix did not actually create the world, but he did give it shape using the Stone...

Tip.It Times - 8th August 2010
Yew logs are as high now as they've ever been and they're still only ~110k gp/hr in the best of circumstances. If that was ever a good moneymaker, the alternatives must have been pretty crappy. Woodcutting is terrible for money and has been for as long as I can remember. Same with fishing. Anyway, what I mean is that "A is a faster moneymaker than B" does not imply "The focus of the game is shifting away from B." Skills are still important. In fact, I would argue skills are now more important than ever with the introduction of dungeoneering to make use of previously-useless skills like smithing, as well as updates like the high-level herblore potions. Oh, and these combat moneymakers that are so thoroughly trouncing noncombat skills are (with the exception of the frost dragons, which are more of a "dungeoneering" moneymaker anyway) bosses, which should not be equated with "combat" in general. Ordinary combat moneymakers like dragons are still roughly on par with or slower than noncombat skills like hunter, mining, herblore, or runecrafting. Yew Logs, Flax and Nature Runes were once the backbone of the GP influx rate in RuneScape, and I'm guessing this was the case about 3 years ago... Sharks were 1k a piece then, and then bots invaded, bringing it down to 300gp a piece... Dungeoneering may make skilling more important then before Dungeoneering, but you only need the level... It does not matter to the current argument... People dont skill anymore to make money AT ALL, they all opt for the faster XP option, and let bots do the gathering... And its not just bosses... Its lower level monsters too, like Green Dragons (650k per hour), Blue Dragons (400k-500k) Spiritual mages (500k), Aviansies (400k-600k), Dagganoths (500k), Aberant Spectres (500k-1m), and none of these are boss monsters... And this is without any Clues incorporated... To compare that with an AWESOME and HIGH level (91+) skilling money maker of Double Nature runes: 800k an hour... Bots keep the prices of Red Chinchompa's low, w84 does the same with Gold Ore, and Herblore only LOSES money... Even if you referred to farming herbs, and add that to other skilling money makers, it does not compare to the better money makers with combat... Op top of that; for skilling to be a good money maker, you have to have high levels (80+ is a minimum)... For combat money makers? Not neccisarily so ... So all in all; the writer is EXACTLY implying what you say cant be implied... The focus is shifting from skilling to combat throughout the game, and HE didnt even need the economic proof to make his point... I did it just to add that extra oomph...

Tip.It Times - 8th August 2010
Jagex has done [bleep]all to curb inflation... And the crisis has hit in such a way that we have hit a tipping point that Stormveritas has pointed out very well in this article: The focus has shifted away from skilling (truly skilling) and unto combat, and the only reason that prices of sharks and what not hasn't exploded is the armies and armies of bots... He didn't touch on the economic stuff, because thats an upcoming article by yours truly, with a lot more that pretty much says "Welcome to WoWscape" When has woodcutting ever been a good moneymaker? I think that was the time when half the population in RS was cutting Yews and and continued to alch the then fletched Longbows... You say it is supply and demand, and you are right: We demand it and the bots supply it... One money maker being faster then the other is indeed not a problem... UNLESS you try to prove that the focus shifts away form skilling and unto combat in the entire spectrum of it (which was Storm's point all a long)... And even then, noone cuts oak logs when they can cut yews, same reason why worlds are crowded in the GWD but not at cockatrices... Fail arguments... But as I said; await with the comments on that until ive written my artice on it (should appear about October)...

Farseer Helm vs Infinity Hat
Ok, one more challenger Tadaa Since we're going all out for the win, tonight... why not invest in this? Surely, slowing down 9 enemies at a time with Miasmic magiks will definitly give us the edge at the Obelisk?

Macroing & Bots :'(
Agreed. Keep an eye out for today's Tip.it Times, and you'll see why it is a bad thing... Bare in mind that bots have slowly replaced skillers and other players that used to actually gather some stuff...
