Tip.It Times - 27th June 2010
Oh I don't need to be cut some slack... I've held my own all these years and I'll probably continue to do so for years to come... But people mostly speak out when they disagree with something, instead of when they like an article... Not only do we want to know whats wrong, but also whats right :)

Which Money Sinks Would Help Runescape Economy?
The GE tax is a TERRIBLE idea... And here is why: Many people trade in the GE, but some people do not for the reason that the GE is too restrictive in its prices and the amount of a certain item one can buy... Adding another restriction will cause more people to trade outside of the GE, resulting in even more frozen prices... People will always want more money. Imagine filling up a carton (empty milk carton) with water. Water is money, and the carton holds the amount the total economy has. Poking more tiny holes in it to let the water flow out faster is not the solution if the carton is already overflowing (inflation). Instead we need to stop some of the massive ammounts of water from coming into the carton... Since the PVP/Bounty worlds were updated almost a year ago to give statues and other items which are directly exchangable for money, rather then the items they gave out back then, items got rarer and money became more common... Last haloween I wrote a Times article (link still in sig) with 4 suggestions (one implemented so far) how to stop money flowing into the economy so massively, and one of the major solutions I thought up was to change that PVP reward update... Instead of statues that are directly exchangable for money, give out items that are either untradable, or 100% consumable. Such items that we have that are suited ideally for PVP rewards are Brawlers, Corrupt equipment, Ancient equipment (Vesta, Zuriel, Statius, Morrigan) and so on... Items like Extreme potions are a perfect example of what can be added to such droptables; They are wanted by the PVP people, and have no net impact on the overall economy ... I am not saying to get rid of Statues entirely, but the total value of the statue drop should be no more then twice the worth of the items that the person dying just lost in tradable items. And finally; As for money sinks, we just had a major one introduced in the form of... Dungeoneering... People spend hours and hours NOT making cash trying to get items that have negligible impact on the economy, of which some cost millions to keep charged!

Start-up freeze :(
Are you sure that isn't a SMART test? That sounds logical indeed... What if it is?

Start-up freeze :(
So here is the problem, starting with what works: I can start my computer up in safe mode and do all the things it normally allows you to do in safemode... This means I can still copy files and what not around (or so it seems anyways)... Now for what doesnt work: Normal startup of my Compaq with Windows Vista (dont hate me) just freezes just before I would normally see the Windows Icon on that perrty blue/greenish screen... The screen turns black and nothing else happens... Start-up repair suggested goign back to a system restore point, but that has not helped either (I thoink it gets stuck while doign that too) Tests and Diagnostics show that everything is working, except for 1 test done on one of my harddrives (I think its a START quick scan)... Before I completely wreck my computer by spreading whatever the hell is wrong with it through wiping it and going back to factory settings, I would like some advise on what MIGHT be wrong with the thing, and wether or not it is fixable... Personally I think a bit of the Harddrive where some of the drivers needed for full windows (not that 64 color safe mode fail thing) has become fubar... But I am not an expert...

Tip.It Times - 16th May 2010
Because they spent so much time on it that they want people to play it forever. They also are likely going to devote a disproportionate amount of time on developing it in the future. I honestly think this will be the center around which they build Runescape from now on. Also, how many times are we going have to watch Tip.it kneel down and give Jagex a "Lewinsky?" Sirhemen, we love guest articles, so when can we expect it? Me_Hate_Libs: This article is my own opinion, not Tip.it's or Jagex's... I've written my fair share of critical pieces with equal verve and devotion as I've written this piece (link being the bottom pic of my sig, still)... But if you have watched Tip.it "Lewinsky" Jagex so many times now, why are you still complaining, better yet, why are you still here? This reeks of jealousy ;) Neither of you guys seem to be able to properly formulate criticism about the article or it's subject, but for some reason (rly, what is it) want to so bad that you got to wonder why you even play this game... Me_Hate_Libs even started to stake outrageous claims that I (because the Times writers are NOT Tip.it staff) somehow have sold out to Jagex... Get real, and get to work... PS: both of you apparently missed a lot of the hidden criticism in my article, so I'm goign to count you too towards the group of below average readers...

Guys... I did not say that this is the end of RuneScape... Read the last few paragraphs of my article again, if you please :)

Tip.It Times - 16th May 2010
Hmm, some people shouldn't be allowed to reply with a tl;dr attitude tbh... GuardKnox; I did not suggest the end of Runescape itself, I STATED that, once batch 2 is here, it is unlikely that RuneScape will ever see such a massive awesome update ever again... mckinzy5: This is the 3rd installment, with a 4th on the way... Each one addressing different bugs... And finally kamykazee: I like that you took the time to re-read the article and reach a totally different conclusion... I blame myself for adopting popular titles that could lead the below-average reader astray...

Dungeoneering 70 - 80 - 88
what does 5:3 1:1 and such mean? plz answer as if talking to an idiot ;)

A thought.
Here's how you fight manipulation: 1. A stable economy is needed This means that prices remain pretty steady, and obvious whims of merchant clans can easily be picked out as spikes and slumps are far more obvious... This means that there should not be any maximum or minimum prices (alch prices will therefor create the lowest price au naturel), and also means that Jagex has to return to the BTS in order to prevent sudden market shifts when updates happen... 2. Faster GE updating Real life stock exchanges update every single transaction... Translate this to the GE and you'll see smoother lines instead of sudden 5% jumps... This doesn't make manipulating prices any harder, but it does show clear lines that respond to certain movements in the market... Again, any unexplained movement can easily be filtered out (especially if the GE has a link to off-site GE graphs), and classified as manipulation... 3. Multiple GE's designed for different currencies... Imagine another GE in Ardougne that trades in silver pieces (SP)... Your coinshare can anywhere be set to which of the two currences you want as a drop, and anythign you thieve or alch or get as a drop, and any normal coin drops west of White Wolf mountain would from now on be in SP... Trade limits would remain the same for both GP and SP, and the limit would count in whatever currency the item is worth the least (1m GP vs 1.5m SP would count to 1m)... This creates a mechanism for people to "flee" into, whenever the other currency takes a hit while still having full access to the GE and its facilities... End transmission

C rapier vs C longsword
Anyone notice how similar this debate is to the Whip + Rune Defender vs Godsword debates? Knowing how balanced they made everything INSIDE of Daemonheim, I'm fairly sure that, on average, the damage per second is roughly equal... That said: The rapier uses stab, and there is less defense against stab than there is against slash, so it might be able to hit more often, even if not as hard... But the longsword is more powerful, making each blow count... Training: Rapier Actual fighting (boss, pvp, quests): Longsword Unless you can pick both, i'd go with whatever you do more often... PS: The prospect of being able to wield such a powerful sword combined with a super defensive Dragonfire shield is something I'm willing to sacrifice a little speed for :)

Question about styles used in fights
With all styles though, not necassarily based on organization, as sometimes the clan with with more binders, or a bigger ranger unit/blast unit has the advantage. Atleast in melee/binds wars, both clans would be on the same level. But, i agree that a DC in a melee/binds is hard to recover from than in an All styles war. So, you're saying that melee+binds puts clans more on the same level... This is true, but only for levels... There are many other aspects of warring, like knowing what to tank against (suddenly a lot harder when you gotta take rangers and mages into account), playing your team's strengths against your enemies weaknesses (follow the cmb triangle perhaps?), and lets not forget the preparation in advance (do i bring melee and a sighted longbow? do I mage/range hybrid? do I bind or do I just shoot over the walls with blasts and arrows?) Suddenly, in all styles, the TRUE skill of warring comes into play, where you can't run the program of running behind walls and jumping on whoever's the target atm. No, now you might have to alter your tactics mid-fight... So... What is your opinion on this topic (was I out of line in anything)? I like it... And no, I applaud your stance on wanting all-styles to become the norm... Finally someone else who thinks that melee/binds is a ridiculous practise...

Thieving Master Farmers
Until sweetcorn seeds become so common there's too many of them in the GE and they won't sell even at the small, trivial cost they will drop to. Fortunately, I have about 45k potato seeds in my bank... 2nd; put 1 worker of your Kingdom on herbseeds and you'll get at least a dozen a day... Finally; someone plz pm me if the higher end seeds (watermelon please?) have an increased droprate then :)

Fansite Support (Re-launch)
RuneHQ and Sals being on platinum and Tip.it not does seem kind of odd, and I too am of the opinion that it shows that it is not fansite quality, but cooperation with jagex' demands that get you high ranks... But let's leave our crappy competitors out of it for a minute... We have now the choice to: A) Do nothing, leave things as they are, and miss out on a couple of extra perks. 2) Remove the other-game-ly ads that hardly anyone notices, let alone clicks, anyways, and get the top exclusive content that this fansite deserves. I'm inclined to go with the latter option, because even if it is a demand from Jagex, complying with it doesn't have ANY effect on anyones daily routine here at Tip.it, but it may affect Tip.it's funds... And if the funds we're really endangered, don't you think someone wouldve thrown up the red flag by now? BTW, Jagex, if you read this; make a Diamond level, for the one fansite that has been the bestest platinum for the past 6 months and keep that competition running indefinitly... On a personal note, my antivirus makes all ads into a nice unclickable white bar, so I couldnt help filter out the wrong ads even if I wanted to :)

Tip.it Times 4 April 2010
+ infinity for clan hall  A massive "COH" with a lot of features for clans in it. I'm naming; -Teleports to any group vs group minigames (SC and Clanwars in particular) -Ancient Obelisk Teleport (teleporting you randomly to any one of those currently present in the Wild) -A seperate bank where people can donate items to for clan use, as well as the stuff needed to construct more rooms and their features -Trophy Halls for said minigame achievements against other clans -and any other cool features that makes it awesome to have a POH too... As for the current commentairy on how there should be no seperation between the single and multiplayer "modes" in the game; Some things already require you to be part of a clan to be able to play. Clanwars is an example of this, and I think that Jagex should do a whole lot of belly-button staring for not implementing more of this... So what if you cannot do an activity because you're not part of a clan? I'm beginning to feel quite nauseous at the one-size-fits-all routine... It happened with the Ice Strikewyrm/Firecape issue: Stop your whining and move on to other things, or conform and get a fire cape, and ti goes for clan content too: Join a clan or expect not to be able to do everything... If you've had a bad clan experience, then you've just not found the proper clan for you yet... Better still, if you can't find such a clan, MAKE one... Unfortunately, Tip.it is not the home of clans, but there is our rival fansite out there who is completely dedicated to clans... If people think that clans are just a vocal minority, they're very wrong indeed...
