Are you going to Heaven or Hell?
6th level of hell for me. The city of 'Dis' which, coincidentally, is a level in the original DOOM game. So I may like it there. :anxious: ...if I had a shotgun or a plasma rifle...

Are you going to Heaven or Hell?
Because I don't need a path to know how to be a good person. I choose to live for the world, for it's people. I wish to understand it through science, especially in the field(s) of physics (only a Junior in high school right now though >_<). Every once and a while I can entertain the idea of an afterlife and Heaven, but I'm not going to base any opinions of mine off daydreams. I don't care what happens after I die. I live for this world, not the next. Ok, thats all that matters. I just see to many people use science as an excuse not to be a good person. Just be careful not to blame science because some people use it as a shield. It's purpose isn't to breed bad people although I'm tipping you know this. Hell yeah! It's got all the heavy metal. :P

Macroevolution
What you're explaining dosen't disprove macroevolution, sorry. There are reasonable explanations for the complexity of some biological systems we see today. Your main assumption is that each step to creating a full, functioning system can only mean that the system dosen't work yet and hence won't be selected for. It's not the evolutionary way of thinking. The evolution of something like the eye, for example, has many intermediate stages, may of them you can see in living species of mollusk. All you need for a crude eye is a compound such as retinal (which detects light) in a few cells. Again, what you're suggesting is that evolution works to a plan and has to go through stages of development to get a final product, which isn't true. link link. There's a section on the evolution of the eye here. Just google search some more, if you like.

Are you going to Heaven or Hell?
No, we base our lives on scripture! Its Gods word. Missing the meaning of what God is saying in the scripture is mans fault, not God, and when you don't have the truth, because you missed it, you form ideas that are not biblical, and thus spawn the denominations. I call it Religion. God says 2+2 is 4. Religion says it can be 3,5, or any number you want it to be, as long as you don't claim it to be 4. Religion is basically what people think you should do, rather than doing what God says to do. Its people who have missed the Truth. How many times back in the days did Christians think it was bad to wear make up to church? Some of the girls needed make up badly XD Its missing the truth, like these, that makes churchs into a Religion. But basing your life on Gods real truth, when you understand know the meaning of his truths, the real meaning of what he says in everything and every word, that is what will set you free. How you know you get the interpretation correct is based on what the other scriptures say. If tons of scriptures can back up 1 scripture, you got it. However most people claim stuff that isn't even biblical to claim.. such as looking at a woman, then praying she will marry you. That is not bibical.. what is biblical however is believing God will provide a mate for you because he doesn't want any man to be alone, he didn't see it as a good thing for a man to be alone, which to back it up on scripture, it says so in Genesis. You can definatly believe God for that. ~Defender~ The bold is what I was saying. If the fault lies with us, what makes you so sure that your interpretation is correct? How can you tell who has the right message? Does god come in and say 'now hold on there, people, that's not what I was saying at all!' No, not quite. All we have is our subjective analysis of scripture. Sure, to many, it seems clear as day. But what makes you sure that you have it right? I could never personally be confident in what scripture sais due to an over abundance of interpretation and spin. But that's just me. I don't believe that it's god's word, which makes it difficult, I'm sure you'd agree. Perhaps you just see it simpler than I do. :?

Macroevolution
I'm keen to hear of any barriers that would prevent this turning into speciation. Aside from this, if there are macroevolution skeptics out there, can you suggest another viable scientific explanation for the origin of species? People will probably think 'yeah, I can see what you're getting at, atheistic warri0r, you!' Not true. I'm genuinely interested in the truth of the matter, not which theory is correct. Today at uni, I had two lectures on evolution, each of which backed up all previous knowlege I had and expanded upon it a little. As I see it at the moment, evolutionary theory is logical explanation of the natural mechanisms which cause genetic change within populations, which, according to the theory, can form new species. I am genuinely interested in why some people believe speciation can not happen and what alternative theories they have for the origin of species. Thus far, I'm pleased that it's gone so well and encourage you all to contine in the same vein. Any comments are welcome.

Are you going to Heaven or Hell?
So I suppose you guys go with the argument that the break down in interpretation is with imperfect man, not perfect scripture, correct?

Cricket World Cup
I attempted to stay up and watch it :D The hours the cricket are on are far to crazy for me. I did happen to catch the end of Aus. vs. Sri Lanka this morning, though. Good stuff Symo and Punter for sticking it out in a calm display toward the end.

Are you going to Heaven or Hell?
You just went against all which The Bible is about. Considering it talks about Heaven and Hell way back in the Old Testament and throughout the Gospel Books in the New Testament it wasn't created by the catholics in medieval times. And considering it also talks about Lucifer the "Arch Angel" falling from heaven and taking a third of the angels with him in rebellion and creating hell, your "perception" of Christianity (according to the Bible) which we base our beliefs off is undeniably of course and quite ignorant from a Christians perspective. And also directed at your last statement "Do good and the rest will follow" has nothing to do with whether or not you'd be accepted into heaven or not considering its all about repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus into your life. Doing good won't ever get you into heaven (which the Bible outlines quite distinctively throughout). I really haven't ever heard quite warped and manipulated beliefs from a Christian before to suit the way they live their life. What's wrong with interpreting the religion how he sees it? Not everyone follows the Bible to the letter, you know. I'm sure when Judgment Day comes around God won't be asking him/her about his/her interpretation on why he/she should be allowed to enter heaven for all of eternity. God outlined it all pretty clear in The Bible and says to live by it. There's no "grey areas", unlike what some people think, just so that they can justify in their own minds, the way that they are living their life. If there are no greay areas, as you suggest, then why do we have denominations? Why do people interpret the bible in wildly different ways? Why do people stray from the apparant basic message of love?

Are you going to Heaven or Hell?
You have a good point. Everyone will inevitably put thier own spin and interpretation on the Bible. Each denomination focuses on different passages and extrapolates different and sometimes conflicting messages. Who's right? The Bible isn't exactly the easiest book to understand (unless you strip it down to very, very, broad, bare essentials i.e. god created us and sent Jesus to die for our sins through his love for us). At the end of the day, if we could all take home the message of love from the Bible above all else, the world would be a better place. Even bishops/pastors/preachers miss sight of this fundamental message. There's too much focus on the negatives, perils, traps and evils. Forget satan, people. Dwelling on the negative breeds negative thoughts. Just forget the concept of satan and hell all together. Focus on the good in the religion, don't dwell on the bad or 'what ifs' and no doubt you'll be set free.

Are you going to Heaven or Hell?
No where in the Bible does it say you do not choose your path and God does it for you. Heck, if it was like that, we would all be pre-destinied for heaven or hell. But the Bible writes that God wishs that non would perish and have everlasting life. Heaven is free. Heaven is a choice. Its simpley just accepting that sins from Adam were wiped away through Jesus Christs blood. If you don't let Jesus blood wipe out your sins, then you will have to pay for your sins to God. Which in that case is basically hell. If Jesus never went to hell, then we have to go. Thankfully, he chose to go for us and in our place.. and now we don't have to go! Its that simple.. you don't buy heaven with works and morals, and why would you want to anyway? That would be a LOT of hard work!!! Jesus paid for all our sins. The ones who are not going to heaven are the ones who take their sins apon themself to pay the price which cannot be paid by their own blood. Walking the word of God and in love is loving God. People think that if you don't walk in the word after being a christian makes you a old sinner and a hell bound boy. Nothing could be further than the truth. God handled all sin in the world with Jesus blood. In Gods eyes, every one on the earth is free from sin. The only ones not going to heaven are the ones who won't accept that Jesus paid the price for it. You recieve Salvation through faith in believeing Jesus paid the price for your own sin. It doesn't get any more simpler than that. Do you believe in gravity? Yes. Do you believe in water? Yes. Do you believe in Jesus? whoa wait a second now.. Its a simple "Yes, I believe he died for me.. and rose again", and ta-da, your saved. God did ALLLLL the hardwork that needed to be done. Now since he can't impose on our will, all he is saying, "Just believe" (or recieve), and you got it.. your saved.. its done. Welcome to the kingdom. Welcome to heaven. Its not difficult at all! Christians make it sound like you gotta straightin up your act afterwards too or you will be hell bound. Not true. Now you shouldn't live a life of sin, but God loves you so much, your mind cannot understand his mercies and graces. Its shocking and marvelous to men. ~Defender~ thanks for the comments. As for the bold, accepting water and gravity aren't beliefs (sorry to nitpick, the misuse of the word is a pet hate of mine) yet accepting Jesus as my lord and saviour is. I can see water and the affects of gravity. I can't see that Jesus was divine. As for the simplicity of the choice, I can see that. But you could probably also see the little dilemma of mine where I believe there is truth in what we can know and uncertainty in what we don't. It's not like I could say 'ok, I think I'll accept Jesus now.' I'll always value whatever I can know more than what I need faith for. Just the way god made me. :P

If only there were more Christians like you. The world would be a better place. :)

Are you ready to die?
That would be the way to go about it. If you think about your own outcome, it won't be for them; it will be for you. Just remember that. I can see your line of thinking, but think of it this way; did Jesus think of all of the warm fuzzy 'welcome homes' when he was on the cross? No, he would have thought about the burden of sin he was taking for everyone.

Are you going to Heaven or Hell?
Lets get this clear. Hell isn't the mythical demon land with lakes of fire and eternal torture. I'd bet god almighty isn't a sadist, people. On the other hand, hell being merely 'without god' makes more sense. If I'm an atheist, I suppose I am going to be without god. It kind of makes me wonder why seing as I'm not going to deny him, it's just that I won't flat out accept something which is so manipulated twisted and perceptive. If I were to believe in god, he'd be the kind of god I like and I'd get to go to heaven :P . In conclusion, according to Christianity, I'm going to hell, but it's not up to me to judge. All up to the big dude. Kind of makes me think. Do you rekon he shows discression and/or compassion? Or is it just follow the law, no grey area?

Are you ready to die?
You've got it all wrong. Self sacrafice isn't for your gain, my friend. If you're only motivation for self sacrafice is yourself, I'd wager my house that you wouldn't do it.

Are you ready to die?
I'm to passively complacent to worry about death. Do I fear dying? I'm an animal, of course. Life is a choice, like anything else. MJK, in the song 'Gravity', by A Perfect Circle, sings 'I choose to live.' If you think that way, you have more control (albeit subconciously) and won't fear death as much. If you fear death too much, you're expecting it and can't see what life has to offer. Listen to the song Parabola by Tool. I'd say it's fitting.

Guns: will a ban reduce crime?
Interesting issue. There are guns, therefore there is crime. Would a complete abolishment of guns eliminate crime? No. Would it lessen it? I'd say so. If a man has a gun, he has the power to take your life. If you then use a gun to protect yourself, anyone has the power to take your life. It's sad that we have these things that are designed to kill each other and then use them to protect ourselves from them. It's kind of like one country having a nuclear arsenal, then the enemy being forced to make them to defend itself, apart from the fact that the trigger on that gun is real comfortable and easy to pull without the knowlege that the world will basically end. It's sad that we even invented the bloody things.

Your Conscious
I'm thinking it's concience, not concious. Am I right? Or am I getting this mixed up terribly? :? Anyway our concious mind is what makes us aware. To give a really blunt definition it's a characteristic of being awake. Concience, on the other hand, is just a label for what we would call our set of morals. We see going against them as a bad thing emotionally or physically and thus we have a resistance (concience). I hope I got that right? :?

Playing games at work/school
I was never really all that keen to play games in class. Hell, I had a spare lesson on computers with generally no teachers in the room. I basically just listened to music and did some assignment work. Ahh the spare lesson. Those were the days... :) Actually now I think of it, there was a crackdown on games playing at my school once and for some reason I got caught (through the system) playing solitare (which wasn't a frequent occurance, I can assure you) while a friend of mine who I sat next to in class was on game sites all the time and never got caught. :wall: :P

Macroevolution
So ambassadar, your main concern is on the fact that, at some point, there had to be an organism with more chromosomes than any other and therefore it had to have a mate of the same number of chromosomes to be able to mate and produce fertile offspring? I just want to get this clear so I know what to look for. edit: perhaps this link will help answer some of your concernes. link

Darkness
At the risk of being overly scientific, my answer would be it's a biological mechanism to help us keep on our toes when our most valuable sense (sight) can't be used. If we aren't being stimulated by light, which alerts us to our surroundings and any possible dangers, we seem to stimulate, in our subconcious, images of dangerous things. Kind of our brains expecting the worst and being prepared for what may happen. This isn't a definate answer, just my hypothesis.[/nerd]
