Do You Support Capital Punishment?
Thats why my 2 bullets execution should be put into place. Much cheaper. It's not really the execution itself that's expensive, just the waiting on death row and legal costs. I'm not willing to compromise the legal integrity of a potential death penalty system in case innocent people are killed. Let me ask you this - do you think a quick death is a worse punishment than life in prison?
-
Do You Support Capital Punishment?
Don't support it. All the excessive legal costs make the death penalty on par with, if not more expensive than life in prison. Here's a case study from America: [1] I think that life in prison is a worse punishment for heinous crimes, too.

What are you listening to right now!?
Obscura by Gorguts (album). Bizarre... what utterly bizarre music. This is far more out there than Nespithe by Demilich. I can't quite decide whether it's a masterpiece or not.

Wine and alchohol discussion
That's not the point he was making. The point he was making is that very few people in western culture take alcohol for its taste - it's something you take to lose inhibitions and "let your hair down". If I wanted a good tasting drink, just take Pepsi. Seriously. Alcohol isn't meant to taste nice. I'd seriously question that. Wine, for example, is all about taste. You don't try and make a fine drop just to let your hair down - the existence of wine tasting should tell you that it's a drink valued for its taste. I'd argue the same for beer, too. Everyone I know of that drinks beer loves the taste. My attitude, as is theirs, is that a good beer tastes great. I think you're half right - it's partly about letting your hair down, but it's also about the taste. If it had nothing to do with taste, we'd all be drinking ethanol mixed with water.

The greatest joy?
Simple things like listening to great music, writing and playing music and hanging out with friends. I also get a lot of joy from achieving what I have academically... there aren't many feelings greater than getting good results after weeks of study and revision.

Just discovered this awesome original tech-death band. Leading Vision by Gorod (album). Awesome... truly awesome. Never since Atheist's Unquestionable Presence or Decapitated's Winds of Creation have I heard such free-flowing, original tech-death.

Best and Worst of 2008 (movies)
I'm not much of a movie buff, but I did see The Dark Knight. it was pretty good. Just a touch overrated though.

[ Scrubs ]-Best T.V series of all time?
Ditto. I'd rather watch Seinfeld.

Most brutal band ever?
I don't have a clue, but if I were to guess I would say it has something to do with the girl that was killed in a Limp Bizkit mosh pit at the Sydney Big Day Out?

Wine and alchohol discussion
You can still get a small intoxicating effect by drinking a few (3-4), so you don't need to drink half a carton to have fun with alcohol. I haven't been truly drunk in a long time, but I still enjoy drinking for the taste and to a lesser extent for the effect of the alcohol. By the way, I don't think the fact that alcohol is a poison will deter people. It's the taste people care about, and once you get used to it, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the taste of beer. In fact, I can think of nothing more refreshing than a good, chilled beer.
- Happy new year!

Wine and alchohol discussion
It's beer for me. I'm not too picky on brands, so long as it's really cold. I'm definitely one to drink for the taste, but the inevitable intoxication isn't something I avoid or anything. As for wine, I'm yet to appreciate it. Maybe I will in time, but too much cheap cask wine kind of put me off it.

Best Music Video?
Prison Sex by Tool. F5sIXUbMgF0 Although just about any other Tool video clip would do as well. Any video clip where the band isn't just standing around playing their instruments is fine by me. There's absolutely zero originality to a band just standing there playing their instuments in a video clip.

Is God real post your thoughts!
What if you knew for sure you wouldn't get caught doing something bad? Let's say... stealing a bike you wanted really bad. Would you steal that bike if you didn't have to fear those consequences that you mentioned about being directly punished by other human beings or is there something more to it? I don't think I would do it. For some people it may be that easy, but largely I think that fear of consequences is more than something you can just consciously switch off. I'm no psychologist, but perhaps that barrier is a mild form of what we would later call paranoia.

Perhaps morality stems from biology. If you think about it, the human species works much more effectively as a unit than if we were all alone fighting for ourselves (and against each other). As a result, natural selection favours behaviours conducive to social cooperation, etc. Saying that without god or religion we'd all just immediately stop being social animals is a gross inaccuracy in my opinion. Even as a non-religious person, I fear the consequences of my actions, both from the law and from my fellow man (being disowned by family and friends, etc). Besides, if you look at some of the most religion-poor nations on earth (some Scandinavian countries, for example), they're still very much intact and prospering.

Global warming - Do you mind it?
No one thinks he is. Anyone intelligent who is the least bit concerned about it will see what real scientific research has to say.

A question
One of the major problems is the sperm "breaking the seal" of the egg cell. It does this by releasing digestive enzymes from the acrosome, a structure in the sperm head, to digest the outer "jelly" coating to the egg. The mechanism to release these enzymes is based on the binding of the sperm head to this "jelly" layer (called the zona pellucida) and is very species specific. Genetic compatibility of the sperm to the egg would be another problem. This looks like a good site for relevant info: http://www.vivo.colostate.edu/hbooks/pa ... /fert.html

If you think that's cool, try the album Wish You Were Here. It's one of their best, if not their best. An awesome sax solo in the song Shine On You Crazy Diamond, too. Currently listening to Individual Thought Patterns by Death (album).

People in life who deserve recognition
I agree we had an awesome firefighter teach us our current first aid certificates. Normally costs around 300 or so dollars from Saint Johns but he only charged us 80 for the both of us. He was also out there fixing all the storm damage for free while the rest of the fire fighters were rallying about pay salary increase. That's dedication  That reminds me - all those people who basically patched up The Gap in Brisbane deserve a huge thanks. Particularly the SES. Anyone who volunteers to do that kind of work is a champion.

Has the industrial revolution been beneficial or detrimental
Why? Everything has potential problems attached to them. Of course there are even some things that are stimuli and reduce your stress - but my point was that the more complex your life is, the more stressed out you will probably be. I'd say that's part of it, but it's also how easy those stimuli are to deal with. There's nothing stressful about a movie because it's not going to effect you in a negative way. There is something stressful about being overworked because you lose sleep and energy. On it's own, I don't think how complicated your life is really means anything as far as stress goes.

Ordered and received. CD's and DVD's.
Haha, thought Paramore might turn a few heads. I just heard some of the songs and thought they were really catchy and well put together. I also love the singers voice - she's really talented. I definitely don't mind a bit of contrast in music. After all, Sun Kil Moon comes after Suffocation in my windows media player. Doesn't get any more contrasting than that.

Has the industrial revolution been beneficial or detrimental
Well, at least back then they didn't have the drama that the internet and media cause. Now most of us always have a method of communication (phone, texting, internet) so we are dealing with more people. I think less stimuli in your life creates less stress. Also, the Romans lived to be about 30 but I don't see how their life expectancy would add any stress to their lives. If you are talking about getting diseases and injuries left and right then I guess you're right since that does count as stimuli. I don't see life expectancy as something to stress about though. They lived shorted lives, hence they probably weren't all that healthy compared to us, didn't get enough food, etc. That would have made them more susceptible to disease, too. Also, stimuli = stress is a pretty shallow correlation. People don't come out of a movie feeling stressed. I wouldn't say that the media or the internet causes that much stress in peoples lives, either. Not in mine, anyway. If I don't like what I'm seeing, I just turn it off, so it's quite comforting knowing I can stop any potential unpleasantness instantly like that. One of the things that I think causes the most stress these days is working too much. Unfortunately for some people, it's absolutely necessary just to keep their heads above water.
