  1. You're welcome to work on both teams as long as you feel you are able to manage both roles. You usually have more than enough time to write your articles (2-5 weeks to write 600 words) so there should not be any interference with the two jobs. This will only become an issue if someone is on both teams and we find that they are unable to juggle both positions. At that time we'd confront the person and they'd probably have to choose between the two. But as I said, it shouldn't be an issue. We currently have people working for both Crew and the Editorial Panel and it works out fine :)
  2. The Editorial Panel is Hiring! About The Editorial Panel The Editorial Panel is a group of people composed of authors and editors. Together, we work to produce a weekly publication called the Tip.It Times, and we are recruiting! Do you enjoy discussing and debating RuneScape-related topics in General Discussion? Do you have strong opinions about RuneScape updates? Do you enjoy writing fictional stories? Or do you have impeccable grammar and spelling skills? If you can answer "yes" to one of the above, a job with the Editorial Panel may be just the thing for you! You don't have to be an incredible writer to join the team because our editors will proofread your articles for spelling, grammar, organization and flow. We're looking for people who can stir discussion, provoke thought and encourage debate. So even if you don't normally find yourself writing articles but often create threads to discuss ideas and issues in General Discussion, this may be the job for you! About The Job This is a volunteer, non-paying job. Authors and editors are typically given an assignment once a month (2-5 weeks notice), for which they must meet their deadline. Authors may select their own article topics. Editorial Panel members' work is published for thousands of users to read, discuss and enjoy! Available Positions There are two positions available in the Editorial Panel: authors and editors. If you have the necessary skills, you could even do both! We are looking to take on 2-4 new people for each position. Continue reading for descriptions on each role. Authors Authors are responsible for writing editorial or fiction articles for the Tip.It Times. They choose their own topics and work on a deadline to produce their article for a specific publication. They are usually given about 2-5 weeks notice for each deadline. Authors may write about anything they want, as long as it is RuneScape-related and follows a few basic rules (such as appropriateness). Editorial articles should be blog-like, controversial, original, interesting and thought provoking. They reflect your personal opinions (or what you notice that other peoples' opinions are) about RuneScape updates, features or general happenings. Fictional writers create stories that occur in a RuneScape setting. Stories should be engaging, exciting and related to the game. All authors must be able to accept constructive criticism from both their team members before the article is released and from the Tip.it community after the article is published. Word count for articles is flexible, but is expected to be a minimum of about 600 words. Editors Editors are very important parts of the Editorial Panel. They are responsible for reading, editing and commenting on articles before they are published. They review articles for accuracy, quality, spelling and grammatical errors. As such, they are required to have good writing skills and knowledge of grammatical rules. Editors are also encouraged to comment on and critique the content of the article and give suggestions where they see fit. They are also welcome to provide topic suggestions to authors. Editors may also write their own articles if they wish, but authors are given priority time slots. How To Apply Everyone may apply to join the Editorial Panel! It doesn't matter if you have applied unsuccessfully in the past or hold another staff position; if you are interested - submit your application now! PM your application to tripsis - do not post it here! Put Editorial Panel Application as the subject. Take your time to make a good impression. Do not rush or put in half effort. Read and answer each question thoroughly and to the best of your ability. Even if your application is not chosen, we will keep it on record and contact you at a later date if need be. There is no official deadline to submit your application. We will continue to accept applications until the positions have been filled. Out of fairness, we will try to wait about two weeks before accepting anyone, so this is not entirely a first-come, first-serve basis. Once we have filled the positions, we will still accept applications but will likely keep them on file until new positions open up. Application [hide=Application Read Only]** NOTE: You are required to submit a piece of writing with your application. Authors must submit an article that could potentially be published in the Tip.It Times (so it must be RuneScape-related). NOW ACCEPTING ARTWORK/COMICS: The Tip.It Times is now accepting submissions of artwork and comics. If you would like to make a submission, please PM it to tripsis. I'd like to remind people of the rules pertaining to Times threads: [hide=Read these rules before posting in this thread] [/hide] When replying please make sure to clarify the article you are replying to! Thanks! If you spot any typos or mistakes in the article then please PM them to me :) Enjoy the articles!
  4. I finished all the Hunger Games books! [hide=Spoilers] Throughout the other books, it really bothered me how she kept switching between Gale and Peeta romantically and couldn't decide which one she actually "loved" (if either). I was pathetically hoping that she'd finally make up her mind and choose one... but by the end it really felt like to me she chose Peeta by default and actually had to learn to love him, rather than actually passionately loving him in a romantic way. 6. Haha same here :P Actually I have a few more since I have two servers to look after :ohnoes: I'm living in the UK so I wanted to play on an EU server but I found out some old friends from LOTRO are playing so I wanted a character or two on their server as well. I originally wanted a Sith Sorcerer as well.. but I got kind of turned off when I saw that everyone and their mother was playing that class. I know that probably shouldn't affect my decision but.. meh :P After much bouncing around (and playing a Smuggler to level 15 before finally deciding I didn't like the combat mechanics), I think I've decided on playing a Jedi Knight but leaning towards the dark side :P
  7. Most likely not :( I have an awesome 10 hour flight back to California on Saturday and Sunday will most likely be spent catching up with my family and whatnot.
  8. Most men that I've seen with long hair either don't take care of it, or aren't suited for it. Usually I see one (or both) of the following: Extremely greasy. I suppose this results from not washing it often enough. It's extremely unattractive. Thinning at the ends. I only find long hair attractive (on both males and females) if the hair is consistently thick. If you have hair thinning out at the ends, I think it looks pretty bad when it's long. I have very rarely seen a guy with long hair that doesn't fit in one (or both) of the above two categories. And if it does fit in either of the above, I find it extremely unattractive and it makes the person look messy or unclean. The above factors can obviously be applied to women as well, but for some reason I see it way more often in men.
  9. What class are you playing? I'm having the most annoying/difficult time deciding on a class.
  10. Congratulations! Glad to have you on the team.
  11. Has anyone else started playing yet? If so, what server? :P
  12. The Hunger Games. I'm on the second book now. Ohmygod these books are amazing.
  13. With all the aspects of the game we could delve into, it seems far, far, far too convenient that the one that spikes its head up over and over is the efficiency argument, and more correctly - efficiency is BAD. There may not be many changes to the game, but there is MUCH more to talk about than simply the same buzz topic that is going to draw many pats on teh back for being anti-efficiency (as well as heated contention from those who a) dont give a hoot about being told how to play the game - either efficient or otherwise - or b) are infact, part of the efficiency crowd, who, are simply being attacked the whole time, regardless of a lack of names, we know who is being spoken about). As was said before, if anyone wants to submit a pro-efficiency article, they are welcome to. But guess how many we have received. Zero. That's why we have published zero (at least recently). And I assume that none of our current authors are that big on efficiency themselves so it's difficult for them to write from that perspective. The Editorial Panel has nothing against efficiency and we welcome all topics when it comes to articles. As long as an article is well written, well argued, and respectful, we will have no problem with publishing it. And if you have ideas for topics (which you implied that you do), I would encourage you to PM some authors with your ideas. Most things worth talking about get discussed here in General Discussion before the Times is released so by the time publication comes around, it's considered a dead horse.
  14. Guys, please. I'm going to make one final comment before I want everyone to please quit jumping down each others throats, harassing the Editorial Panel, making unfair/speculative claims about "policy," and just get back on topic. You guys are perfectly welcome to dislike articles and disagree with them. Articles are there to present ideas and sometimes, generate controversy. Any kind of response from an article is appreciated - be it "great article - I love those ideas" or "I really disagree with those opinions! Here's a counter idea ..." The members of the Editorial Panel are volunteers and have to work under strict deadlines. Right now we have barely over 5 regular authors and 5 regular editors. These guys are responsible for writing at least once a month. When you write that often about a game that doesn't always have significant changes, you honestly run out of fresh ideas and new perspectives. It's understandable that every now and then we beat a dead horse or do our best to write articles but occasionally come up short.. and the best part is, we get very little help from the community. Our readers are so incredibly critical and yet they do very little to help. It's easy for you to sit back and judge or criticize the Editorial Panel, but could you do what they do? Could you write a new article every 2-4 weeks? If you could, then why aren't you? Why aren't you submitting guest articles? We do get the occasional guest article and we do our best to publish as many as we can, but we also try to be selective so we can please our community by providing them with quality entertaining work. On the one hand we get butchered for turning down work, but on the other hand we get butchered for not having "good enough" work. Which one do you guys want? I beg you guys to please be respectful and understanding of the effort we put in to make the Times available to you guys regularly. If you want to see it improve, then be the improvement. Send me a PM with a guest article, apply to join the panel full time, send authors PMs with topic ideas, or at the very least, be respectful when commenting on these threads. I am not asking you to like all our articles or agree with what is written, but I am asking you to respect the volunteers who work so incredibly hard to make this feature available to you all every week of the year.
  15. Well above all we look for an interesting, unique idea that is well supported and argued. Ideally something that hasn't been done time and time again, but if you are able to put a new twist on an old idea - that's good too. Trolling for dollars anyone? Seriously -- you folks are still so pissed about this to the extent that you publish this rubbish under Tip-It Times now? I realize that most of you cannot wrap your head around the idea that "fun" is subjective, and one could attempt to explain it to you once again, but in the end we cannot understand it for you. You're welcome to disagree with an article or a person's views, Blyaunte, but you do have to be respectful. Challenge the ideas but do not just call it rubbish or trolling. And the articles in the Tip.It Times do not reflect the view of the site, staff, or entire Editorial Panel. The articles only describe the author's opinions. Don't you think it gets a little "old" to see someone, time and again, attempt to make the same insipid argument against emergent/efficient/meta game play, based entirely upon their misbegotten notion of what efficient game play actually means -- and then have them assail such concept as not being "fun"? Personally, I could care a tinker's curse about what someone else thinks is "fun", but I am not about to attempt to deny whatever it is they consider to be fun as "not being fun" -- and then attempt to further qualify such an absurd point of view with some ridiculous epicurean non sequiturial metaphor. Not to mention the fact that efficient game play is more about the reasons "why" the game falls down the way it does, which unto its own self is considerable fun for those people who love to tinker with how games "play" -- but also that efficient game play means that while one spends less time grinding skills, one also has more time to attribute to those other things that one finds "fun" to do. We really need a "like" kind of option here. I agree with this wholeheartedly. We have been through this argument so many times. "Fun" is subjective, yet some here believe that their way of playing is the only way of playing that is "fun". It is my opinion that some articles belong on the Times while others don't. Any article that is being posted on the main website is inherently a part of the website. As such as much as tip.it insists that all players are welcome here, you are alienating a group of players by allowing such articles to make their way on to the main website. If someone wants to write a pro-efficiency article we would gladly publish that as well. People shouldn't be alienated by differing viewpoints and criticism. If we write an article criticizing the firemaking skill are we alienating all the people who love firemaking?

  17. Well once your physical copy is cleaned up and inked, the rest really comes from touching up in PhotoShop. Use levels to sort out your colours and increase the contrast. Beyond that it's kind of hard to give you suggestions without actually seeing an example of a "messy" scan and knowing all the steps you went through already.

I'm currently studying digital arts in university. I'd like to work in the game industry when I graduate. Right now I'm working as a freelance web designer on the side.
  22. I was in a public restroom and the lock in the only available stall wasn't working. So I was just holding the door shut while I used the toilet and then someone came in and pushed it open really forcefully and... yeah. That was awkward. A bunch of other things have happened to me that most people would consider embarrassing but I don't. The above is the only time I can remember that I was actually really embarrassed.
  23. tripsis replied to muggiwhplar's topic in Off-Topic
I don't and I never will if I can avoid it  I like shower time (or bath time, when possible :P) as a time to relax and think. For me that's best done in warm showers. I like to just calm down and let my mind be at ease and think about whatever comes to mind. I actually do some of my best thinking in the shower. While a cold shower might wake me up or energize me or whatnot, I don't think it would be a good way of relaxing and thinking for me.
  24. Tip.It Monster Hunting Team Inaugural Boss Hunt! Corporeal Beast/Giant Mole Split Contents [anchorlink=timedate]Time and Date[/anchorlink] [anchorlink=serverlocation]Server & Location[/anchorlink] [anchorlink=theboss]The Bosses[/anchorlink] [anchorlink=friendchat]Friend Chat[/anchorlink] [anchorlink=inventory]Inventory & Equipment[/anchorlink] [anchorlink=requirements]Requirements[/anchorlink] [anchor]timedate[/anchor] Time and Date Date: 18 December 2011 Time: 9 PM gmt [anchor]serverlocation[/anchor] Server and Location We will be meeting in w99 at the follow locations: Corporeal Beast: Giant Mole: [anchor]theboss[/anchor] The Bosses Corporeal Beast: Upon arriving, drink your potions and make sure you are at full health, then activate protect/deflect magic and turmoil/ piety. From there, we will enter the cave and attack! Start by using your special weapons, the Bandos Godsword, Darklight, and Barrelchest Anchor all reduce the defense of the Corporeal Beast and will speed up the kills of the team! Once you have used your special attacks, swap to your Zamorakian Spear. (Other spears work, however Zamorakian is the best). Attack until the beast dies, healing when you need to, and optionally using protect from or deflect melee when you are being focused on. When the beast dies, the loot will be dropped and assigned to a random person, however rarer drops will be split evenly via coinshare, allowing everyone to get their share if a sigil is dropped! Once the beast has respawned, simply kill and kill again, until the event is over! Giant Mole: Use your spade to dig a hole in Falador Park, and you'll fall into the mole tunnel. Once the Giant Mole is found, active Protect from Melee and Piety and unleash your special attacks. After it's taken some damage, the mole will dig and appear elsewhere in the tunnels. If you brought a candle or other exposed flame, it will be put out from the dirt kicked up by the mole, so make sure you bring a tinderbox. After the mole digs, we will split up and look for it and attack it once it's found, repeating until it dies. It couldn't be simpler. Note: The Giant Mole is weak to stab attacks, so weapons with high stab bonuses are highly recommended. [anchor]friendchat[/anchor] Friend Chat We will meet in the friend chat Meredith then we will split up based on the boss we're fighting. Corp fighters will use TMHT Ambler3 and Mole fighters will use TMHTMeredith. [anchor]inventory[/anchor] Inventory & Equipment The Giant Mole: A light source is also required, bullseye lanterns preferred. Images courtesy of Tip.it/runescape The Corporeal Beast: Lower level gear: Medium level gear: Higher level gear: [anchor]requirements[/anchor] Requirements Note: depending on the attendance, the required levels may be higher or lower than those shown below. The Giant Mole: 60+ Melees43+ Prayer52+ Summoning The Corporeal Beast: 80+ Melees70+ Prayer85+ Herblore Hopefully everyone will have a great time, and this event will be the first of many for the Tip.It Monster Hunting Team. Disclaimer: Both the Giant Mole and the Corporeal Beast can be extremely dangerous, therefore the Tip.It Monster Hunting Team assumes no responsibility for any items lost on death.
  25. Best of luck to everyone :) I'm sure we'll get some awesome applicants!
