  1. Seems that antoher swarm of Earthquakes has in fact begun again at Yellowstone. The consensus seems to be that the swarm this time differs as it's much more concentrated in one area. This area arguably is a weak spot alongside the edge of the caldera, and as such poses a risk to the stability of yellowstone.   3. Over the last few months things have been heating up in our famous National Park and none of it is good. Over eight days, more than 1,270 mostly tiny earthquakes have struck between Old Faithful and West Yellowstone. The strongest dozen or so have ranged between magnitudes 3.0 and 3.8. These are beginning to become serious in size, as a growing swarm of course, but the vast majority have been too weak to be felt even nearby. The volcano last had a caldera-forming eruption 640,000 years ago and last spewed lava 70,000 years ago, which means it could have erupted along with the Toba super volcano. Geologists say Yellowstone could erupt again, although the probability of an eruption within anyone's lifetime is extremely low! I like those odds, but with all the weird things going on in the physical world these days, who knows? Ever since the Boxing Day Quake in 2004, the entire Pacific Ocean tectonic Plate has been re-adjusting. As a result, we started seeing increases in seismic events traveling north along the Japan Islands and South along Malaysia into New Guinea/Fiji/New Zealand. There followed more quakes traveling east alone the north and south edges of the plate, which being lightly occupied area mostly went unreported outside the seismological community. Inevitably the readjustment has arrived at the eastern edge of the Pacific Plate and we seem to be seeing increased seismic events along that edge, which is also the western edge of the Americas. Plate links to plate and the Pacific Plate connects to the Nazca Plate and Cocos Plates, which abut South America and link to the Caribbean Plate. The Pacific Plate forms the western side of the San Andreas fault along North America's west coast. So, we have had major quakes in Haiti and Chile. Not too long ago there was a rare major quake on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge along a fault junction that connects to the Caribbean Plate. Got that "Fall down, bounce around, shake the town, Earthquake Boogie!" So, follow me on this; The Pacific Plate thrusts underneath the North American Plate angling towards the east as it dips deeper into the Earth. The magma chamber under Yellowstone sinks down towards the west. Prior to the recent determination of the scape of the Yellowstone Mama chamber it was assumed that the Yellowstone Supervolcano was a "hot spot" volcano similar to the ones in Hawaii, but with the true scale and direction of the Yellowstone magma chamber currently understood, it seems more likely that Yellowstone is a classic subduction volcano. But whether Yellowstone is directly connected to the subducting Pacific Plate or not, in geological terms they are in close proximity and Yellowstone's lava, like that of all exploding volcanoes, contains massive amounts of dissolved gasses like CO2. Just as a sudden shock to a warm glass of soda pop will trigger an episode of increased fizzing, a major quake along the Pacific plate will send compression waves through the Earth and into the Yellowstone Magma Chamber and unbalance the current dynamic equilibrium of dissolved gasses. That might well trigger a significant eruption of Yellowstone?

You wont be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with the energy and water efficiency standards of the bill. I am sure some of you might see it as a good thing to force people to "fight" global warming, but I am sure most home owners wont like it.In effect, the bill prevents you from selling your home without the permission of the EPA administrator.   16. No white President ever had their credentials as an American questioned. Scandal and political posturing are one thing but this, in my opinion, stems from race. It was seen throughout the campaign - the implication that Obama was Muslim, wasn't a "real" American and the general attempts to play upon prejudice. That goes beyond the normal murky world of politics and creates a horrible racial underbelly. Fair play to McCain, he personally tried to avoid those tactics (I remember him admonishing a person at one of his rallies for making such comments) however, many Republicans did attempt to make the implication and it is just a continuation of the "he isn't one of us" crusade which stems from the fact that he looks different from previous Presidents. As for Obama pulling the race card, I would also disagree. He deliberately went out of his way to not be just "the black candidate", instead he went out of his way to be the change candidate and appeal to white people. I can only recall one speech regarding race (addressing the Rev Wright controversy). He didn't play on race then so I see no reason why he would play on it now or in the future. The same issue as been around for McCain. In fact lawsuits have also been made agianst him for the same reason. Section 1 of Article Two of the United States Constitution contains the clause: No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States." The 14th Amendment does not convey the status of natural born Citizen in its text. It just conveys the status of Citizen. And its very clear that in the pre-amendment Constitution, the Framers made a distinction between a Citizen and a natural born Citizen. The requirement to be a Senator or Representative is Citizen, but the requirement to be President is natural born Citizen. From the 14th Amendment: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and the State wherein they reside. But even as to this conveyance of citizenship, those who were responsible for drafting the 14th Amendment made it clear that - to them - the meaning of subject to the jurisdiction thereof meant subject only to the jurisdiction thereof.

  22. As you may know there have been lawsuits agianst Obama over the natural born citizen issue. Many of these lawsuits have all ready been rejected or thrown out by the courts. Bysiewicz Schneller v. Cortes Thow there are still lawsuits active, including Bergs, and a new one looks like to be going foward with Tennessee lawmakers joining the suits to make Obama turn over his birth certificate and other documents. Obama as said his father was Kenyan not American and that is what a lot of the lawsuits are about, the United States Constitution requires that Presidents (and Vice Presidents) of the United States be natural born citizens. So do you think the lawsuits have any merit to them or just nonsense? I think IF Obama is not a natural born citizen, than the Constitution should be enforce, and he should be thrown out of office. H.R.45 Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009. Here is what this bill would do if it pass. [hide=]If passed, this bill would require that anyone wishing to purchase, own, or possess a "qualifying firearm" - that's any handgun, and any long gun capable of accepting a detachable magazine - would have to be licensed by the state or the federal government in a licensing program managed by the Attorney General. (Even the guns you all ready own.) To get a license you would have to prove you're you, provide a passport-style photo, a thumbprint, and take a written exam which includes questions about firearms safety, safe storage, the risks of firearms ownership, and anything else the Attorney General deems appropriate. All transfers would be required to go through a licensed dealer with the exception of occasional gifts or bequests between parents, children (18 or over), and grandparents, or loans of not more than 30 days between "persons who are personally known to one another." (It actually says that. I'm not making this up.) And all transfers would have to be recorded in a "Transfer Record" established and maintained by the Attorney General. The bill also makes it a crime for a dealer to have shoddy records or fail to appropriately cooperate with any inspectors. It makes failure to report the loss or theft of a firearm within 72 hours a felony punishable by up to 2 years in prison. Failure to keep a firearm locked up in such a way as to keep it inaccessible to anyone under 18 becomes a federal felony too. It will make it illegal for you to possess guns you currently legally own unless you go jump through their hoops, register yourself and obtain a license.
