so basically what most of you are saying is that its just mindless misspellings and SMS short hand that produced this, with no sort of linguistics involved at all. An idiot's english in other words. Alright fair enough, nothing unexpected there, but what about where some of the acronyms come from? i mean, I'm rolling on the floor laughing (rofl) and I'm laughing my *** off (lmao), are almost something you could say in real life, but lol? I'm laughing out loud? doesn't quite sound right.

Hello everybody. I searched for leetspeak and did not find any topic like this so decided to make one. If there already is one like this please direct me to it. In this topic I want to get a discussion going about how and why certain things in leetspeak are the way they are. Ever wondered why they use an instead of s plox for please, ever wondered why lol or rofl are used for laughter, ever wondered where the word noob originates? Well in this topic you can post your questions and theories as to why certain incomprehensible things they are like this. Let me get the ball rolling. My thoery for why x replaces s in plox for please is that in many foreign languages such as French and indeed Latin, x and s make the same sound and can almost be used interchangably. for example in french 6 is spelt six (same as english) but is pronounced 'siss'. C'mon everyone, I know with as many people as there are, there's bound to be some people who know a few things about linguistics and could greatly contribute to this discussion.

The End of the Endless debate! Scimitars VS. Battleaxes!
Pretzel replied to Chocobodude0's topic in General Discussion
Acutally according to the knowledge base, a scimitar and a dagger are the same speed! I didn't believe it either, but hey, unless anyone else has any hard evidence not just "Daggers attack faster becuase i say so" then thats what I'll believe. Once again, according to the knowledge base for every 4 hits a battle axe lands, a scimmy will land 6. Once again unless there's any hard evidence proving otherwise, thats what i'll believe. -
Thanks for your harsh honesty Alice. I needed some sense knocked into me... Looking at it again, i think you're totally right, frog mask is kinda stupid. Jester hat it is, too bad i cant afford a yellow phat (or green halloween mask) to go with green d'hide (g) BTW Nice outfit, very funky, I agree with Devnull (sorry I misspelt it the first time, it was an honest typo, its fixed now), get yourself a sara kite.

talking about stylishness in ftp, what do you think goes better with green d'hide, a frog mask or the green jester hat from a christmas or two ago?
-
How can you say that! I'm FTP and I think that Jagex have been upgrading it more than ever before and I'm very appreciative. Think, we got plenty of graphical updates and we were lucky enough to get the stronghold of security. Not to mention we get to buy some of the stylish new treasure trail stuff'. AND don't forget we are allowed to join in with the holiday events. Some people are just so unappreciative.

Hey just so you know, many deobfuscate bots are actually able to go from mining/fishing/woodcutting etc. to a bank as they are a modified version of the runescape client. This means that they recieve and interpret the packets sent by the game to the client and send their own to get the bot to do x action when y packet is recieved. This means that this kind of auto can do everything a normal player can do, except for speak to other players. This means that if the writer of the script that the program uses is particularly insidious, he can write the script to do anything including react to random events in the correct manner AND drop the rewards they are given, drop special rewards such as gems when mining and, yes, go to a bank when the programs recieves the packet telling it that its inventory is full, by sending the appropriate packets that the writer of the script has programmed it to do in reaction to almost every applicable packet sent to it by runescape. And before you go on saying that these are clearly not bots or they just dont wanna speak and there's no proof they are autoing, there is. For one, the runescape client sometimes sends 'trap' packets that contain useless information that if using a deob bot can sometimes confuse the bot and stop it from working properly. Of course there is another way which happens to be very simple, if it plays for more than 24 hours straight it is probably a bot. BTW I didn't find these facts out, but I am unsure of who to credit these findings to. If it is you who found these facts, or you know who did feel free to send me a private message and I will be happy to give the deserving person credit. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to straighten that out.

i got a couple I'm not a member so this is all in free worlds I was mining ess at the ess mines As usual there was many people asking "how do i make runes?" but there was this one guy. the conversation went like thiits him: How do you make runes Me: first you take the ess Him: where do i get ess? Me: your standing right next to the ess, mine some. Him: How do i get ess Me: Mine it. Him: How do i mine it? Me: With a pickaxe Him: i need a pickaxe Him: gimme yours Me: No i'm using mine. Me: If you dont have a pickaxe use your head *Headbang Emote* (i leave with a load of ess and return) He PMs me. Him: it's not working. And another one. I had just bought a rune pick and was selling the addy pick I previously had. Me: selling addy pick 2k scammer: *trades* I put up addy pick he puts up 100k. Then he lowers it to 10k without realising it. We both accept. Me: Thank you scammer: **** you that was 10k n00b. I want it back. Me: you tried to scam me, why should i give it back? scammer: cuz i will ban j00 for scamming, my main is a mod. Me: whatever I didn't even report him, wasn't worth it.

hate to be picky, but romeo and juliet do not end up together. Not in Shakepeare's play and not in runescape. This makes the storyline of the quest kinda unfeasible. If you could just cut out the part about romeo and juliet being on a honeymoon and have it more like, juliet is sad after romeo thought she was dead and started going out with her cousin, but has lost her album which she looks through to cheer herself up and needs you to find it, (or something like that) would still keep the quest the same, but would tweak the storyline slightly making it a storyline without any continuity errors. Also I would like to hear some elaboration on the new undead magic set as it sounds quite interesting. Perhaps a new topic on these spells?

Why not. Thats like saying whats the point of playing runescape when you dont gain anything in real life from it. The answer is of course that it is fun and different. That would be the point of stars, something different and quirky.

Lumberjack's Guild & Firemaking Miniguild
Pretzel replied to Caisadi's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
This is a very well thought out idea but think about it. This place would absolute macroer heaven. If there was some way to deter macroers it would have my full support. I see its P2P (I'm a F2P, so this is no good for me) so that would definately make it macro unfriendly, but i think it needs a little more. Also shouldn't the firemaking guild be a guide on its own. Maybe near it, but not inside the woodcutting guild. Think about it cooking and fishing go hand in hand but they are both separate guilds. -
support high level updates and suggestions
Pretzel replied to jessy87's topic in RuneScape Suggestions
heres a suggestion. what about a super armour, one that requires 80 or 90 in every combat skill (attack, strength, defence, range, mage and prayer) and offers very high defense in all areas and also gives strength and prayer bonuses. Think the best stats taken from every piece of armour and mixed into one. This could also be applied to a weapon also. Being able to be used with a controlled melee attack, an autocast spell and one of the two range option as well as a defensive style that could be added onto the mage or range to change it to focus or longranged respectively. It would be fairly overpowered, but it would give players a huge incentive and a great ability in fighting both monsters and players. These armours and weapons would have to be dropped by a majorly overpowered monster to make obtaining it extremely difficult. Maybe they would be attained like the fire cape, after defeating a huge onslaught of extremely powerful enemies. The huge problem with this is that is would break the combat triangle. -
you realise that every 7 levels above 20 the xp needed is roughly double so level 27 = 2x xp of 20 and level 34 = 2x xp of 27 and 4x xp of 20. If this was to continue in this fashion, it would require ridiculous amounts of xp. It already takes more xp to get from 98 to 99 than it takes to get from 1 to 72. what next, it'll take so much xp that it wont really be worth it. Maybe a new xp system can be implemented, a type of Dungeons and Dragons system where the xp required is less (say 1000 x the next level to level up so to get from 20 to 21 would require 21000xp) But change how much xp you get according to the level you are on. So someone who is level 1 would get say 100xp for making an amulet while someone on level 50 would only get 2xp for making the same amulet. As you can see, IMO this really wouldn't be very practical to implement

Out of all the things that F2P mages need most its some mage robe bottoms and a proper mage shield! Even if they are just a slight boost, it'll be better than using an antidragon shield because it has +2 mage def and wearing useless blue skirts because they match the tops...

Well going back to my Baldurs Gate similarity. In the game you would add gems using a workshop. Maybe there would be a workshop in every store of that kind of weapon or armour, i.e. you would go to a platelegs store and choose a 'workshop' option to put gems in your platelegs. On the other hand it could be simply like putting the armour into a furnace and smelting the gems in, or sewing gems in for range and mage armor. There could be different bonuses for different types of armor and weapons. It could be like an extension of the new bolt types they got out... Just throwing all my ideas out there...
-
i like the idea. It reminds me of a thing i saw in anohter game. Have any of you played Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance 2 on the PS2? In this game you can add gems to weapons and armor to make them better, like giving them elemental attacks, extra running speed and even a life drain effect and the more gems you put the more the bonus would be. there could be something like this in runescape where you could add a gem to some armor or weapon while you were smithing it and then enchant it, just like you would an amulet.
