I would oppose mandatory classes too mainly because I'm never going to own a gun. It would be a waste of my time and government resources. It would make more sense to require classes for those buying guns not people who will never own a gun.
  2. Not sure I understand what you're asking. A better way of living compared to...? The USSR? Well, of course. As much as I may glorify it, the standard of living was obviously rather poor. In a world united under such a system, things like military spending would decrease greatly or be eliminated completely, which constituted much of the Soviet budget. This would in turn leave more money for distribution, more land for farming/other uses that would have otherwise been military bases or something, and probably raise the standard of living. And not just for the wealthy, for all. That's not to say I'm anti-military, of course, but it's an example. And I've already said that it;s not some personal power trip, so yea, for the good of Mankind. Just make sure you create an incentive system for farms to produce efficiently or you'll get problems like China did, where they just required a quota from farmers at state prices, so farmers didn't have any motivation to produce at their personal optimal levels. They fixed their problem by requiring a certain amount to be sold to the state at set prices, then allowing any excess to be sold on the market. The USSR had a similar problem where the government pretended to pay the workers who pretended to work. Of course, I have faith you would work out the kinks!

I would of said, "With what?" Side note, I greatly dislike (hate) when people use "lol" (especially in the real world!). I would rather see haha or some typed out message. I know it's easier, but it's so boring to just see "lol" as a response.

That was my point. Shouldn't they just do the bold for all gun sales? Well, the hundred hours seems a bit much, but proper permits and training seem like something that the government should require. In fact, I think that's been said a few times in this thread. Always a good suggestion though!

That would seem to make things worse, by your argument that is.
  6. His point was that 90% of the traits apply to 90% of tifers, which they don't. And his other point?
  7. [hide=] [/hide] [hide=] [/hide] [hide=] My responses after the hyphens. Can't think of anything else, tbh. I'll get something to say eventually :? [/hide] Note all the similarities! I confess Reb has a valid point.
  8. Even if that dilution involves keeping in contact with people living far away? If there's no face to face contact then there's no dilution at all. If you want to keep in touch with your friends who are far away then that's cool, but I bet most of the activity on sites like facebook and such is between people less than 10 miles from each other. Ah, I see. In that case, I 100% agree.
  9. Even if that dilution involves keeping in contact with people living far away?
  10. Hopefully I'll never work for a business that "requires" constant connection, whether that be through some Blackberryesque device or Facebook. When I'm not working, I'm not working and I won't let some company try to keep me connected. I probably won't work for a traditional business anyways (probably the government), so I'm not too worried. A separate but related point, people work too much. We need to check our e-mail less, file less, work less. We need to enjoy life more and not worry so much.
  11. Shout Me Out - TV On The Radio From Dear Science, which is a pretty good album. I think they're becoming more popular recently too; they were on The Colbert Report.
  12. Yeah, I was more refering to us helping them. Mexico also has a pretty unbalanced share of income too. The top 20% receive a little over 51% of income compared to ~45% in the US (the US number isn't completely adjusted for taxes and nondirect transfers, so it's less than it seems).
  13. And yet those people willingly worked in those conditions. People viewed a job at Ford's auto plant in Detroit with a high degree of respect and would wait months to get a chance to apply. Yet when they started working they realized the monotony and high demand nature of working on an early assembly line. People flocked to these kind of jobs because they paid better than anything else. While it was a horrible time for worker's rights and the era of the wage slave, I think it was an unavoidable step to achieve the kind of economic growth and development we did and enjoy today. We see similar things in developing countries and consequently rapidly growing standards of living (I'm refering to outsourcing). Hmmp, I originally had a point, but I forgot it. Oh well. Sorry about the double post.
  14. Details, s'il vous plait.
  15. It will end the flow of a lot of their profits. First, decriminalize, if not outright legalize, marijuana. That's not the only thing that they're dealing in, but it WILL slow a lot of their profits. We need to strengthen existing gun laws (and renew the assault weapons ban), and reform other drug laws to target traffickers and dealers...not arrest average citizens for posession. People are gonna need to accept some gun control in America, because it's hurting our security on our own southern border (and dare I say it, making people less secure in America as well). edit: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=6960824&page=1 YES! If we're going to try to take drug cartels profits away we need to hit them where they make the most, cocaine. 1 kilo of cocaine is easy to traffick compared to its profit equivalent in marijuana. If anything, the drug war has increased the amount of hard drugs being brought into the country due to their ease of transport. However, cocaine's not really a drug we want legalized, so the only solution that comes to mind seems to be to increase the efforts of Mexican authorites in stopping the cartels.
  16. Centrally planned economies such as the US/Englands? :) We both have central banks that control interest rates, inflation etc... We're "Capitalist" tho, right? ;) Well, Bari covered it, but I'm referring to centrally planned economies like China (more specifically, a pre-1980s China) where most things were state owned and run. No European country is close to a centrally planned economy because it's known that type of system is inefficient. The central bank example would be more appropriate if other banks didn't exist. Since they do, the central bank acts as a regulator not a manager.
  17. Biased! I want to go to Australia...
  18. You should try saying something actually racist and see how they respond. I think you'd catch them off guard. I've never had significant issues talking about race, but I've never known anyone to think it as too big a deal. I guess my generation is a little bit disconnected from the previous generation's tension. Clearly, there are still race issues, but they seem to be slowly dissolving.
  19. Somewhat relevant to commmunism, centrally planned economies have typically shown poor economic growth rates. In some cases, they can provide high short term growth rates, but usually struggle to achieve sustained growth. One bonus they have been shown to have is quickly changing an economy from agricultural to industrial in a short period of time. One reason for the mess of a centrally planned economy is the resources which go into the bureaucracy to control the economy take away from resources that could be invested in business. To the OP, people are likely to call you a commie if you arrogantly display your belief of communism by "explaining" the faults of capitalism. Unless of course, commie is becoming a new popular insult. In which case, I'm so going to start using it, you communist slug.
  20. Like I haven't heard that 1000 times... If someone is in love does it really matter what age they are? Oh yeah I forgot only people over the age of 30 are allowed to be truly in love  30 year olds don't have as many hormones running through their body and rapidly changing perceptions of who they are. So, yes, it can matter what age they are because they may not have fully matured yet.
  21. There really haven't been any interesting issues or drama in quite awhile. I'd much rather watch a Brazilian soap than read most of these "problems." C'mon people, make drama!
  22. ^Elvis Costello and Talking Heads  The Knife - Genesis
  23. Thank you and I will try to keep it alive as long as possible. I'm 16 and she's 17. I have a job so yeah I can probably get more hours at work in order to save up the money. I really wish I could move with her, but really going to another continent is a bigger deal then "Oh if you don't go it obviously means you don't love her enough". I do honestly, it's just a big decision to make. I do want a full education including college and that will most likely occur in the U.S.. Other than that I guess all I can do now is wait and see what she wants to do :? Only 16? Pfft, the anwser should be obvious. Things happen, life goes on. People change. There are other fish in the sea. You have your whole life ahead of you. I'm sure there are other semi-relevant cliches.

    How much did she cost?
  25. It's either that or drink, but I guess they've done too much of that too.
