Today it's snowing really hard, but not much of it is sticking so it turns into this mostly melted slush. Oh well, I'm stuck studying for midterms anyways.
  3. Why? If you want to shell out 40-50 grand a year for an undergraduate degree that's not going to be noticeable to a first time employer when compared with experience, GPA, and extracurriculars, then go for it. Even GPA is barely an indicator compared with experience for a first time job. I'd say GPA really only matters for internships. After your first job, your other employers aren't going to even look at where you got your degree from (and I would say that the first time people won't, either). They'll look at how you did on the job you just left, and call that employer. Hell, many people I know (including Darkrick on these boards) have told me how even during first job interviews they don't even ask your GPA. The only time I see it being mentioned is for internships and co-ops. I'd say it'd only give you an edge if the employer was an alumni. There ya go. Ivy League provides connections and opprotunities that would be harder to find in a upper level state school. So long as it's a nice state school, then I see no reason why Harvard would make one more competitive. If your GPA is sound, and you provide strong interest in the Professor's work, you shouldn't have trouble getting offers. This is especially true if you got a 3.5 GPA at Harvard, but had a 3.9 somewhere else. If you don't plan on grad school, though, Ivy League is definitely not worth it. You're comparing schools and giving different GPAs, of course you'll get different results! If you're recognizing, Harvard is harder, then employers will recognize it as a better school. However, I do agree that Ivy league schools are best for those going to graduate/professional programs or high level business positions. But if you have the money, it's not a bad option for undergrad.

I keep reading the title as "titopia". I guess it's a little late, but say tipitopia three times fast.

Krieg, did you just get back from a tour? I only ask because I'm curious where you were stationed. My cousin's currently in Iraq near Baghdad. Haven't heard much from him, but he's really enjoying being a Marine.
  6. Madison's a great school! My uncle teaches there (math). When I thought I might do chemistry (or something closely related) I thought I might go there, but I went with economics and a college over a thousand miles away. It depends on class size and bravery. If you're in a small class (<30), just be late. Anything bigger becomes personal choice mixed with prof leniency. Of course, I go to a small college, so I don't have classes over 35 and those are the intro classes. Once you get to the higher level classes it approaches an average of 14 students, which are horrible to be late for.
  7. Are you body painting him?
  8. Keep up the GPA and sports and you'll probably get in fine. Don't forget to try and get some teachers' letters of recommendation and write a good essay.
  9. Fratres - Arvo Part If you like minimalism, you'll like Arvo Part.

So, You'll provide us with shrimp for food, and for pulling parts for the underwater buildings? If you do, You have to wear a sailors hat.[hide=][/hide] Hell no; I'll be wearing my cowboy hat! With an unlit cigar always in my mouth.
  11. Er, a handshake? no, the terrorist fist bump, or a wierd high five, or the hand slidey thing. You never know what it's gonna be. Haha, my tennis doubles partner and I had one in between points, not too intricate though since that would be poor sportsmenship.
  12. I second this (especially the money part!), but I'd also say to give a nice look at some out of state schools just in case you may feel like living somewhere completely different. It also helps to go to places like Harvard if you plan to get into a top graduate school. Just going to upper level universities like that greatly increase your options and ability to get into excellent grad programs. You may also like a liberal arts university if you like learning about a broad range of topics in addition to a concentrated major.
  13. Er, a handshake? I don't readily show affection for anyone, but I'm comfortable with myself, so a "man hug" isn't awkward. In my experience, people (males) who are awkward about such things are either homophobes or teenagers since those are the people who are going to be the least comfortable about themselves.

Hooah! I know quite a few in the military (mostly the Army or Marines), but it is definitely not my thing.

Why limit to a single day?
  17. Yeah, small villages can replace the usual incentives to produce efficiently allowing people to continue to produce efficiently. It's kind of interesting how social norms can (in some cases) replace market norms. It's where the whole "the company is a big family" speech came from.
  18. Dammit Reb, free meth lab! Meth lab!
  19. Organic - Philip Glass Koyaanisqatsi is an amazing album.
  20. If someone builds me a meth lab, I'll totally make a TIF cycle model that will predict when serious and non-serious threads are going to come up.
  21. It wasn't so serious a few weeks ago and people were complaining that Off-Topic was going downhill. I think it's just a lovely cycle of serious and non-serious topics and complaining both ways. I like the serious discussion though, but I guess that's just personal preference; they're both good in the end.

I detest smelling like anything. So I pride myself on smelling neutral. I suppose for my scent you could spritz water on your self.
  23. But why do you want to make more money? Money shouldn't be an end, maybe a means, but never an end.
  24. Or when it's a full handshake, but the other person just has their hand go limp like they're shaking with the air. When that happens, I can't help but think, pansy.
