  1. Here's where we run into a slight problem, alcohol is also a food item (wine, beer, Scotch :D , etc.). Just because a minority of people binge drink more than they should does not mean we need to regulate everyone else.
  2. Not to wander too far off topic, what makes 21+ the age for responsible/safe use of alcohol and marijuana? We are one of the few countries with a drinking age above 18. However, this is probably an arguement for another thread though. Source: http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/LegalDrinkingAge.html
  3. Because while European countries were slowly doing their best to wean themselves off of oil, America was burying its head in the sand and insisting that it was every American's right to buy a SUV. That and the US is one gigantic suburbia. Some people drive half a mile to get off their neighborhood road and are only 4 miles from "downtown". This oil crisis is just like the one in the 1970s. People will start driving less and automotive companies will develop more efficient cars to appeal to people's increasing conservative driving. Hopefully now we'll get to see new technology (like hydrogen) instead of just smaller cars.
  4. I agree with most of those except the age limit. They could make the age limit 18 or 19 and people could still be just as responsible given people are given proper education. Similar issue with the 21 age limit on alcohol. Basically, less taboo and bigger push on responsible use and I think we would see less binge drinking and fewer kids using marijuana because it's "cool". Also, I think we need to get stricter on DUIs. If someone is caught driving under the influence, then they get their liscense taken away for a year. If they get caught a second time, they get it taken away for 5 years. And so on.
  5. So make it illegal to smoke and drive. Simple solution to "millions" of deaths.
  6. Just a helpful hint: don't listen to anti-drug/smoking ads on television, they are purely propaganda. Smoking marijuana does not make a person forget to pick up their little brother from soccer practice; it is the person's fault for being irresponsible. I guess not, but I know enough about the drug, that I wouldn't consider taking it. I think the fact that you can choose not to smoke marijuana should be applied in the same manner towards someone who does choose to smoke it. It should be a personal choice whether or not to smoke marijuana not the government's. Of course, then the question becomes: How much does the government intervene in protecting people from themselves? I'm still undecided on the answer to that question, but maybe someone else has some ideas on it.

Haven't they found a radiation resistent slime near Chernobyl? I think I remember reading something about it.

I'm addicted to coffee, but not caffeine. You know, I think they make coffee scented shirts. Hmmm...
  9. Tobacco, was here long before the 1800's. :| I thought we were talking about cigarettes. Tobaccoo has been used in nonconsumer ways for thousands of years. Do you know what a lobbyist is? So, no, lobbyists don't but they sure persuade legislation to vote against putting more ads up against smoking, making smoking in movies illegal, etc. I think you missed the point, but, yes, no one likes lobbyists. Supply and demand has little to do with the fact that they are legal. I'm sure Marijuana has a much greater demand than its supply, and what do ya know, it's illegal. People want them sure, in fact, millions of people do, maybe even climbing to the billions. But that's only because it wasn't made illegal in the first place. Billions upon billions of dollars has been dumped into tobacco products, and if that all went away, we are looking at a hurt economy. It just needs to be highly taxed, and have a similar solution as gasoline, high prices, until people realize, it's not only bad for them/the environment, but hurtful to their wallets. My supply and demand statement was refering to what keeps cigarettes and alcohol legal, not what made them legal. Just a helpful hint: don't listen to anti-drug/smoking ads on television, they are purely propaganda. Smoking marijuana does not make a person forget to pick up their little brother from soccer practice; it is the person's fault for being irresponsible.
  10. Gah! I ate a chocolate covered coffee bean once (I thought it was a peanut or raisin) and it was nasssty. That's the only time I've ever had coffee in any way, shape, or form. Bleeeghhh. Blasphemer! You shall be shaved, sterilized, and destroyed.
  11. Food [hide=][/hide] Drink [hide=][/hide] If I could live solely off coffee, I would be the happiest person in the world.
  12. And the patriotic ideal of freedom. Cigarettes came around in the late 1800s; democracy was founded in the US before cigarettes. They are "sown into the economy" because people want them; basic supply and demand. Lobbyists don't tell people to smoke cigarettes, people make that decision. They could make it legal then throw all the druglords in jail for tax evasion
  13. Why do all "potheads" seem to have a grudge against tobacco and booze? Shouldn't they argue for the freedom to use what we wish as long as we don't interfere/harm other people's lives? (I say "potheads", refering to the 15 year old stereotype) I haven't really seen any convincing studies to show the medical value in marijuana, but I think that is due to the fact that it is hard to research because it's illegal. Research would be a lot easier with legalization.
  14. Just got off a 9 hour shift at the theater, but I'm not really tired, so just kind of idling around.
  15. To the bolded, Israel has done that seven times, I believe; and those are just the wars. Israel has also made pre-emptive attacks to stop alleged threats. That said, I think what Satenza said sums up my opinion on the situation as well.
  16. My favorite series is either the Wheel of Time books (RIP Robert Jordan) or Sword of Truth. My favorite book is probably The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch by Philip K. [bleep].
  17. A 1978 Ross racing bike. I found it leaning against a dumpster one day (in horrible shape) and decided to take it home. Fixed it up and now it works pretty well except I have to get a new chain. Its fast too!
  18. The tree has no apples hanging from it. Someone has carved apples into the trunk.

  22. Believing in a god towards the end of one's life can make it easier for people who know they will die soon (i.e. old people), but thats not something I think anyone can understand until they are that age.

I think the current believed date of release is sometime around June '08, but they keep changing it so who knows.
