  1. Ever since the new update, the login servers have seemed to be going offline far too many times for it to be just an overheated piece of electronics. Do you think the two might have anything to do with one another? It seems very odd that the two events (Trouble Brewing and first login issues) happened within 24 hours of one another, and, in fact, are happening as I type this. I logged off of runescape manually, switched worlds and tried to log in, but to no avail. I just hope my progress was saved... Note: I noticed that most of the population runescape worlds had suddenly been cut down by ~16%, with World 78 going from 1978 people to 1650 or so. Anyways, do you think I might be right or that I'm just proposing a wacky theory?
  2. Click on the link in the first post ... it has a map. Or just go here: http://www.webspacearchitects.com/browns/tourmap.jpg I'd suggest running this route a few times to get it down. Make sure you don't cut the corners at: the Al Kahrid Mine (go on east side), the Varrock fountain (go around the outside of the fountain on the northwest side) and the Rimmington mine (go all the way around the fence). Yeah, didn't see that...somehow.
  3. Oh, man...hard to say. I love herblore so much (I barely ever buy any pots I didn't make myself) and smithing is just a wonderful skill, but there's one skill that I've been doing for the longest time. Runecrafting. And no, it's not about the money...the skill is repetitious, but I don't mind it. Working in a company really helps things along, especiall since you can talk to people.
  4. Aye! Anyways, I have a few words for you. You think you're so great, all high and mighty. Wow. Look in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane...no, it's "Inferiority Complex Man"! You have so many problems, I tell you. You may have written some decent guides before, but that doesn't give you the right to push us around. It's idiots like you that ruin the game for the rest of us. If you want to come back, fine, we'll welcome you with open arms. Post a few more guides, join in some conversation, post with dignity and respect towards others, and you'll go far in these forums. Before you go on yelling at others over minute mistakes in grammar, look at yourself. You've gone in, blowing your own trumpet, and actually expected us to praise your "glory"! That has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard! You better hope others forgive you for your wrongdoings, because I certainly won't. Good-bye, and good riddance! Why don't I "guide" you to the door?
  5. I'm having a real hard time picturing the route of this race, even with a world map. Is it possible you could make a picture showing it?
  6. I actually lucked out on this one. After getting a clue scroll on my 7th kill, I managed to get a black mask 3 kills later.
  7. Thanks for reading, guys! Anyways, I want to clear up a coupple fo things: 1) I intentionally used jadex, as Bubsa accidently said it once and it has become an official way to refer to the company when you complain about the details of their handiwork. 2) I did bring both anti-fire pots and an anti-fire shield. 3) I looked it up in the Blogscape stickies, Jwrm; the forum is for diaries and for recording day-to-day events, not for stories.
  8. I know that this is an awkward title, but I find it befitting. Tonight, I found out the true meaning of "over my head". I was wrapping up cutting 12.2k willows (finally!) and was preparing to fletch and burn them all when a friend of mine (let's call him Free Willy :)) pm's me asking if I want to join him to kill the chaos elemental. Normally, my reason would've screamed thyat it was a stupid idea for a level 89 with 66 ranged and a level 92 with 72 ranged to try to duo this behemoth, but the boredom of spending 8 straight hours with those willows rendered my feeble mind unable to work properly. I agreed, and we were off. From a previous experience, I knew that melee'ing the Chaos Elemental was a BAD idea. So we decided to range him, as magic just wouldn't fly. So, after the always annoying process of preparing and meeting up in South Ardougne Bank, me and Free Willy were off. We agreed to split any loot we got in half, and pulled that ominous switch. Keeping quiet, we dashed to the Elemental, him with high hopes and with me secretly writing my character's eulogy. The first run went alright, with both of us still protected from mage and with food in our inventory. He damaged the monster more, so I was crossing my fingers as he told me the drop...dragon bones. Yes, dragon bones...how can a tentacle infested cloud drop that?! Cursing our luck, we re-stock and go again..this time, things weren't so good. It seemed alright at first, but he began to cast more unarming and teleother spells than usual, leaving us vulnerable. We got him down to about 3 hp when we both ran out of food. He fled, and I soon followed. And then I made one of the stupidest decision of my life...with only 50 hp remaining, I go back. Yes, I run towards a monster that could 2-hit me, thinking I could still do it. Seeing two spells heading my way, I chickened out (how noble of me ) and ran for my ever-loving life. The first one comes...BAM!...hit for 24. I thought I was dead, since I swear I have seen this thing hit me with a 26+. 26 hp left, come on...don't hit me high...BAM!...25! Me wondering if I had miscalculated and was in fact dead, found myself with 1 hp and accidently entering a wolf-infested area. One turns to attack me, but I'm running fast enough to get away from him before he does (I had just gotten 70 agility a few days before). My energy almost to 0%, I see the hut with the lever and a web that has already been cut open. Hoping my friend did that, I manage to teleport back to Ardougne. Collecting my calm, I pm'ed my friend...he had absolutely no problem escaping (since I took all the blows :D) and was who-knows-where doing who-knows-what. So what did we do? Try again! This time, however, I persuaded Free Willy that it would be a good idea to kill the KBD instead. Although neither of us had killed him before, it was supposedly easy to kill him. Why not? Having no idea what to bring, I carried full initiate, a d scimmy, some pray pots, a anti-fire pot, and some food. And we were off...again. Pulling the switch, we took the ice plateau route again and tried to find the lair. We went down a ladder near the lava maze and found ourselves on a small strip of land infested with a bunch of aggressive poison spiders. This couldn't be it...there was no ladder in sight. So we go back, traverse through the lava maze, and go down that ladder. Looking all around, we were pummeled by poison spiders and the anti-social black dragons, still not finding the ladder. So, getting in a safe spot, I look at tip.it's map to the lava maze(underground), finding out that that strip of land we visited over had a switch that sent us to the KBD! A switch! So we go back to the small strip of land (which I will forever dub Poison Isle) and pulled the switch. What did we find?! A level 124 with a fire cape beating up the kdb. We tried to keep up, but to no avail....although I did get to see a 40 done on the dragon (). Free Willy, as usual, logged out, found an open world, and called me there. Because the KBD had just respawned, he started to pummel me with his dragonfire. I finally get away and log out, breathing the typical sigh of relief. Go time! I logged in, only to find my friend without prayer, trying to duel the KBD with a combo of monk's robes and black dhide armor. He was out of food by the time I got to him, and I tried to finish the dragon off. Because of previous damage I had taken and my inexperience, I took far more damage than I had hoped. I drank a anti-fire potion, but it did practically nothing. Why do people recommend it?! Somebody's got to clue me in on it sometime. Anyways, Free Willy flees, only to be unable to find the lever to leave the area. He, after being under fire for nearly 30 seconds, dies, losing all his stuff because he was skulled eariler on (apperantly he accidently attacked me when I was going down the ladder instead of clicking on the ladder itself...go figure ). Noticing I'm running out food and realizing I'm certainly not going to survive much longer, I wrap up the KBD, dash for his stuff, and grab everything I can, even eating food in order to hit it all. After some trouble, I find the lever and pull it. I'm becoming frantic now, thinking that I'm going to die in the wildy with only 25 hp, resulting in both the loss of my items and my friend's hope in my abilities. Once I reach Poison Isle, I quickly climb up the ladder, and realizing I have no items that can tele, I make the journey from 55 wildy to Edgeville. I make it there safely, giving Free Willy his orginal items, the 15 bloods the KBD dropped, and a couple of sharks (I had accidently used up the last remaining dose of prayer potion Free Willy had, so this was my way of repaying him). I logged off for the night...or so I thought. I soon found myself logging back in. Instead of fletching and wrapping up the night with a couple of levels, I pm'ed Free Willy. "Want to do it again?" "Sure." We prepped again, with me looking in the Archive of Wisdom for a good guide. More knowledgeable this time, we set out, this time taking a slightly different path to the KBD. When we found a door in the gate that seperates Member and Non-Member wildy, we found a vicious looking player with mystic, splitbark, and a d scimmy. We were about to log out, but the white dot disappeared before we had a chance. I guessed he thought we were pk'ers or something. I was wrong. A few seconds later, the green dot of Free Willy was replaced with a white dot, which belonged to the person who had just logged out. Running towards me at deadly speed, I log out when he was about an inch away of me. A couple of minutes later, me and Free Willy manage to meet up near the ladder that leads to Poison Isle. To battle! Things almost work like clockwork now, with both of us doing things almost perfectly. We kill the KBD, recharge at altar, and go back for more. The third trip, however, was a mistake. Left with only a few tuna potatoes each, we took a risk...and almost lost everything. Free Willy ran out of food early on in the battle, but decided to go on until he died, leaving me to pick up his remains again. I, on the other hand, forgot to turn off strength and attack boosting prayers, leaving me with 12 pray points left by the time I realized. He dies, and I try to finish the KBD. I could've done it, but I forget to check my remaining prayer points. Woo-woo-woo...I was out of prayer. Great. Just Great. And to top it off, I was hit a 23 before I could re-activate it. Using my last tuna potato, I run for Free Willy's stuff, grab it all, and again try to find that lever (how about a giant portal, jadex?! How about a portal that shines brightly and has a neon sign that says "Exit"!). And when I finally reach it, I remembered I had an ectophial and that it would work because I was not technically in the wildy. Port Phantasma (or whatever it's called...Jadex derives pleasure from odd names, I tell ya) greeted me as I checked my status. 17 hp left. That wasn't so bad, was it? Better than 1 hp, anyways. I pm'ed Free Willy, only to find that I could keep the junk he left behind. Through all of that, we only ended up with a rune large, which Free Willy gave to me (after 5 minutes of "you keep it" and "no, you keep it"), which alchs for about 19.5k. It was one "wild" night, though, and certainly one I won't forget anytime soon. Maybe I should've just stuck with fletching the willows...
  9. Ouch, that stinks. Wonder why jagex didn't make the two compatable?
  10. RAHK, I did change my last paragraph a little bit because I really did come off wrong. I agree with alot of the things you say (actually a good 90% of it), but, upon reading my post, I can see where it appears I don't. That philosophy is what we were both taught was true, and I'll stick by those morals to the best of my ability. In my first post, I put the word success in quotes in order to state that it was the success that too many people relate with being rich, not mine. Unfortunately, life doesn't always work like we were taught; it certainly isn't very fair, and you certainly can't expect people to do the right thing. Unfortunately, human nature often dictates that people will do whatever it takes to keep themselves in the best position possible--a law of nature. So, in reality, you can expect people to do the wrong thing most of the time. I hate it too, but that certainly isn't going to change anything. I'm not about riches at all--I'm a level 89 character with a 1400+ skill total who has a net value of about 3.5 million, and 2.4 million of that came when I was lucky enough to come accross a Gunthan's Helm. When I was a young character, with noobish stats and in f2p, I gave away 15k to a guy who had lost his addy due to his own stupidity. That was quite a bit to me...almost an hour's work at the time, if not more. I don't expect it back, even though he promised he would. It makes it fun when you give people loans knowing they won't pay you back and can imagine them smile. It's great to have high moral fiber, but it's also important to have both feet panted firmly on the ground and see the world for what it is. Oftentimes, like delusional environmentalists, altruism can hurt more than it helps.
  11. Alright, it's been changed. No need to waste more of anybody's time. I hope you like this topic better. I decided that instead of creating a flame fest, I would rather see a productive post. Thanks goes to HatshepsutLecter for opening this topic to discussion.
  12. Ignore these first four posts...consider them artifacts of a lost era. :o The post was originally about key halves from random events, if you wish to know.
  13. After a blunder by me (see first few posts), I'm determined to make a better and much more interesting topic. So let's hope I don't mess up again. After the "Swan Song" quest, I talked to the Wise Old Man as I did long before. My character, appalled that the Old Man did not care about his wrongdoings, was repremanding him for being a cruel and heartless being. In response, the Wise Old Man went on a rampage, talking about all of his years of adventuring had brought him no wealth and little glory, with him being stuck in an old shack in Draynor Village. Having been taking advantage of, he proceeded in taking what he thought was rightfully his. From the conversation, he did seem sorry that he killed those adventurers, but he felt that what he did was perfectly within his bounds. Most people would probably just find this to be an intersting conversation, but I can't stop thinking about that view...I don't know what to think. It certainly is a controversial speech, perhaps one of the most I've seen on Runescape. So I ask you guys...do you agree with him? Is it alright to do it in Runescape? Is it right to do it in real life (without murdering people, of course)? To what extent are you responsible to suiting your own needs and to those of others? After thinking about it for a while, I can certainly understand where he comes from. No, that doesn't mean I would ever EVER do what he did (just as to make that clear), but I think that you should try to make yourself happy as well. I'm certainly not the most charitable person in the world by any means, I certainly do choose not to help people sometimes, but I'm definately not a heartless one. Yesterday, I helped a person escape from the Lumbridge Caves who somehow managed to fall into there from above. It was certainly a blast...definately one of the highlights of the week. After his candle exploded and I ran to the exit with him (trying to take all of the blows from the cave hands, which didn't always work out) and he made it out alive with about 10 hp left. In my life, I've never seemed to be too lucky (something I never really minded too much, because it drives me to be a better person), with almost every single person I've helped end up yelling at me for it or endlessly ask me stupid questions or to buy things I never said I wanted. To be honest, I've rarely seen good actions pay off for themselves, but yet I still keep on TRYING to help others anyways. Yeah, I'm weak like that...and why I'm bound never to taste "success". EDIT: After reading this again, I decided to alter my last paragraph...it made me come off as something I'm not.
  14. Actually, I just posted something similar to this last night...it's about 3 or 4 posts below yours. :D Essentially, however, you're making it so that people can get twice the rc xp per run for twice the price of the orginal essence (although it was at 30 each instead of the usual 40-50 each because of a recent market crash due to a swell in supply). That sounds right, but, in essence (pun intended), you're making it so that people can raise the skill twice as easily as before if they both mine and craft and not rely on the markets. Since justifying this change would mean making it take twice as long to both mine and craft it somehow, pure essence will become even more expensive, maybe even into the range of 200 ea....the same as a chunk of coal. I think that pure essence should just have a massive boost in mining xp, not equal gains in mining and rc xp. That way, people will mine the pure essence for the mining xp or encourage people to do the entire runecrafting process on their own. This will cause a rise in supply and a fall in demand, thus causing lower prices. If however, you could somehow make it so that only half of the pure essence you bring were crafted every run to the altar, then this could work (making the rc xp the same as it was before at about the same price). That, however, would irritate people and it might be tricky to make a program that counts all the essence in your inventory AND in your runecrafting pouches (again, probably not...as you can see, I'm not much of a computer programmer...I focus on programming calculators :)).
  15. David, the pure essence at 20 xp each would be about as good as powermining iron...thus it will be a viable option for training mining, especially since it also helps in runecrafting as well and is 1-click.
  16. I tested out powermining granite, and even though I couldn't 1-hit it most of the time, I still got about 3k xp in 6 minutes, which means I would average 30k+ xp an hour. So I think 17.5 xp or 20 xp each would be more acceptable, don't you think? Making it too low would make it useless, too high would ruin the mining skill... Just a note: Never compare to the xp you get mining coal...it's very bad xp.
  17. I guess, but the average person can only get about 1k pure essence an hour, so that's 25k an hour. I would have no problem toning it down some, but I need to know how much xp you get powermining granite and iron in order to make a more accurate figure. I'll check it out myself and fix the figure if needed.
  18. Intro: As we all know, pure essence has gone through the roof in price, mainly because the supply has become so low and has not even come as close to the demand as it once did. Anyways...it can be solved in a very simple way. Why don't we make pure essence give 20 xp ea instead of the original 5 xp? That way, mining pure essence would be GOOD mining xp, close to that of mining iron. Effects: 1. Increasing runecrafting would become more useful as it would allow you to carry more pure essence in the rune pouches and thus get more money and mining xp. 2. More people would mine the essence and, as a result, the prices would drop dramatically. Also, free essence operations might flourish where people sacrifice potential profit for more xp per hour. Thus, the price of pure ess might drop to 50 each or maybe even less, while mining does not become an easier skill to raise. Comparison: I can mine an average of around 1,200 pure essences an hour using the first three pouches. At 20 xp each, I would gain 24,000 xp an hour, assuming no pouch degrades. Powermining iron gives about 28,000 xp an hour, assuming you can get and bank a full load in about 2 minutes (not too hard in Yanille). Last, but not least, mining granite would give me an average of 35,680 xp an hour. Thus this suggestion will in no way make mining easier to train than it is now. Comments? Ways to improve the suggestion?
  19. Updated again! It seems like the numbers are starting to stabilize, and soon enough I will be able to make an educated report on training herby. We've had many replies, from those that have just started trying out the skill to the 5th best herbalist in runescape! If you guys could provide some advice, that would be great. Keep it up!
  20. OK, thanks. Thank you for helping. Just a small question: should this have been put in the "Help + Advice" forum? I didn't really know, since I didn't think it would fit under "Help"...
  21. I was playing runescape, training my pathetic farming, when all of a sudden a system update pops up. After being kicked off, I quickly checked the front page to see what the new feature or change was, only to find nothing on the front page. Does anybody notice anything different here? Or was jagex fixing unknown bugs or setting up for a new update? As you can tell, I don't experience system updates very often...
  22. Alrighty then! I've updated the results...it took me almost an hour -.-. Anyways, the results are probably right, but don't be too surprised if they are a little off. It's a lot of data to sort through, and I actually ran into some odd kinks along the way. I've developed a more organized system that will help me do this processing quicker and more accurately, so keep on posting! :D
  23. Intro: No, this is not a help and advice question. And no, I'm not a newb looking for help with this skill, so don't flame me for that...or I'll just laugh to myself at your stupidity :). Anyways, herblore is a very hard skill to raise...perhaps the hardest in the game. So I'm just wondering how you like to train it. Unlike agility, which has limited options for training, herblore can be trained in numerous ways, each of which cater to the idiosyncrasies* of different people. So I'm just going to ask you a few questions... Questions: 1) What is your herby level? a. 1-37 b. 38-62 c. 63-81 d. 82+ 2) Do you use the market (in general) to raise herblore? a. I just buy items. b. I just sell my potions to people. c. I both buy items and sell my potions on the market. d. I buy items, but I use the potions to make money (i.e. barrows) e. I don't use the market at all. 3) If you use the market, do you focus on profits (reducing costs) or quick trades to level up faster? a. I focus on profits (reducing costs). More money = easier training. b. Depends on my mood. I do a little of both. c. I want the xp. The high herby level will bring me enough profit. 4) If you don't use the market, do you use the chaos druids to train with or some other method? a. Yes b. No (please specify what you do) 5) If you use the chaos druids, where do you fight them? a. Taverly dungeon b. Blood Tower outside ardougne c. Edgeville dungeon d. Agility dungeon 6) If you use the Agility dungeon, do you use theiving to access them quickly? a. Yes b. No 7) Do you have the ability to kill Salarin the Twisted (67 agility or 64 agility with potion)? a. Yes b. No 8) Do you think killing Salarin and using the herbs gives good cash? a. Yes b. No 9) BIG QUESTION: Do you, if you kill chaos druids, set a limit of what herbs you keep? a. No, I leave them as unids. b. No, I keep all herbs, but I identify them. c. Yes, I keep marrentil/tarromin/harrlander and up. d. Yes, I keep (a herb higher than harrlander) and up. You can answer as many questions as you'd like (if, of course, you qualify for them :))...I just want to see how people react to the skill. Who knows? Maybe this might help people train the skill and give them new ideas. The idea for this post was not due to RCTY's polls, but the structure was. The poll does allow for a wonderfully organized forum of data and ideas. Plus, the poll for this week is very one-sided (sorry RCTY, no offense meant). Enjoy! Results: 1) a: 3 (7.5%) b: 21 (52.5%) c: 14 (35.0%) d: 2 (5%) 2) a: 4 (10.8%) b: 5 (13.5%) c: 10 (27.0%) d: 4 (10.8%) e: 14 (37.9%) 3) a: 5 (22.7%) b: 10 (45.5%) c: 7 (31.8%) 4) a: 16 (51.6%) b: 15 (48.4%) 5) a: 6 (26.1%) b: 3 (13.0%) c: 4 (17.4%) d: 10 (43.5%) 6) a: 3 (17.6%) b: 14 (82.4%) 7) a: 11 (36.7%) b: 19 (63.3%) 8) a: 7 (33.3%) b: 14 (66.6%) 9) a: 4 (13.8%) b: 5 (17.2%) c: 4 (13.8%) d: 16 (55.2%) *Yes, I looked up the spelling of idiosyncrasies. This word does mean that I think we're all wierd, but I'll deny it if you sue me for defamation of character (and this part of the footnote will mysteriously disappear). And yes, I have a wierd sense of humor.
  24. Clown, that looks about right...I noticed about a month ago that the XP need for the next level in a skill was about 10% greater than the XP I had received thus far (sorry if that was confusing). So yeah, that sounds about right (for a simplified formula)...
  25. Trix, an item like that would only cause a shift in wealth, not increase the amount of gp in the game. Therefore it will not inflate the economy.
