Maplestory's Big Bang Update
I'm not so sure that the game needs a "big bang" to improve game play, per se. However, with respect to your points, in particular, I would have the following comments: While I will acknowledge that the somewhat logarhythmic rate at which one must train in order to raise levels is rather unappealing after all, the amount of experience to raise any ONE skill from 96 to 99 is the same as raising another THREE skills to 74 I do not see exactly how it can be amended now without offending those players who already ground their way to maxing out said skills. I, for one, am agreeable that there needs to be an overhaul of the melee centric combat system in the game. While range is somewhat more powerful now and certainly more powerful than magic there has not been a reasonable upgrade to combat magicks since Desert Treasure. And yes I am deliberately discounting the various SURGE types of attacks which, although better than the former listing of standard magic attacks is clearly far too little and too late to be that effective. It is long overdue to overhaul the magic side of the combat triangle perhaps adding some form of "ARCANE" and/or "SPIRIT" magic that could be added through a quest or series of quests that would consist of some new multi-target combat spells as well as some buffers and drainers which would level the playing field for prospective mages. There are some necessary tweaks that are, likewise, necessary to improving mage which should likewise be included, namely: Changing Spell Books: It's time to re-visit the manner in which a mage can and does alternate between spell books. Making us run all over hell's half acre to change from Ancients to Lunar and back to Standard is just plain sill, as compared to any ranger or meleer's ability to switch weapons at will. Maintain spell selection after death: Can someone please explain the rationale as to why, upon death, our chosen auto-spell book selection gets wiped from the combat cycle? New Armour and Weapons: Why can we make a wide variety of weapons for melee and range but not for magic? ^This^ is seriously long overdue. Supposedly, Dungeoneering was Runescape's purported effort to assail this and supposedly other "high level" in game content, but I think that that has proven to be a failure. I am not saying that Dungeoneering itself is a failre, but I am saying that it has not provided the much needed "high level" content that the game really and truly needs. If they really want to give Runescape a "Big Bang" how about getting their ass in gear and giving us some real honest-to-goodness high level content, like a SMITHING or CRAFTING or SOME OTHER UPDATE that would allow us to make better high level equipment for melee, range and mage, as well ? How about they stop tinkering with unbroken game mechanics and start finishing off some of the in-game content like the Elf lands? Honestly how long HAS Prifddinas been sitting there idle?

What are you listening to right now!?
Elton John - Empty Garden RIP John Lennon - 9 October 1940 - 8 December 1980 What happened here, As the New York sunset disappeared? I found an empty garden among the flagstones there. Who lived here? He must have been a gardener that cared a lot, Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop. And now it all looks strange. It's funny how one insect can damage so much grain. And what's it for, This little empty garden by the brownstone door? And in the cracks along the sidewalk nothing grows no more. Who lived here? He must have been a gardener that cared a lot, Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop. And we are so amazed! We're crippled and we're dazed. A gardener like that one, no one can replace. And I've been knocking, but no one answers. And I've been knocking, most all the day. Oh and I've been calling, oh hey, hey, Johnny! Can't you come out to play? And through their tears, Some say he farmed his best in younger years. But he'd have said that roots grow stronger, if only he could hear. Who lived there? He must have been a gardener that cared a lot, Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop. Now we pray for rain, and with every drop that falls, We hear, we hear your name. And I've been knocking, but no one answers. And I've been knocking, most all the day. Oh and I've been calling, oh hey, hey, Johnny! Can't you come out to play? And I've been knocking, but no one answers. And I've been knocking, most all the day. Oh and I've been calling, oh hey, hey, Johnny! Can't you come out , can't you come out to play? In your empty garden? Johnny? Can't you come out to play, in your empty garden? Johnny? Can't you come out to play, in your empty garden? Johnny? Can't you come out to play, in your empty garden? Johnny? Can't you come out to play, in your empty garden? Johnny? Can't you come out to play, in your empty garden? Johnny? Can't you come out to play, in your empty garden?

What happened to this community?
Yes -- you have a half-dozen skills in which you're higher leveled than I am. Take a bow. Give yourself a pat on the back. How in the hell Obtaurian thinks you're not compensating for something is beyond me ...
-
What happened to this community?
Tell me -- do you READ what other people say about this game, or do you merely run around playing "Me too" to Stonewall's "Big Dog", all day long? Do a search of "boring" on this forum. Look up "boring runescape" on google. Do a search of "boring" on the RSOF. Now, I'm not one to fly in the face of public opinion, but it's better to attempt to acknowledge the general consensus of the community, than to ignore its consequences. You may want to try and justify the game play any way you want, but I know a helluva lot of maxed out players and skillers who will likewise openly admit that the game play does get downright boring at times. Do you really want me to play arm-chair psychologist? It is a game that revolves around skills. There are only two skills (TWO) that involve competition: Hunting and Woodcutting. You can make any variety of money and buy just about any skill and equipment you need -- none of which requires you to compete to another player to obtain them.
-
do you enjoy grind ?
Funny that this thread should pop up in the middle of our other discussion, no? Funny that other people talk here about "grinding", but you refuse to accept that they can have a valid opinion of it, no?
-
What happened to this community?
Honestly -- if I had 10¢ for every time I've heard someone on Runescape talk about how bored they were ... <_< I find it amusing to watch people attempt to justify their feelings of "superiority" because they may have higher skill levels, or more bank worth than some players -- as though that should make them necessarily better than any one else. As I said -- you're not better. You're not inferior either. Stop compensating. Stop trying to turn everything into some bizarre form of competition. It's a game folks -- a game without an "end". There are no winners or losers. Just people playing the game.

3rd Age/Spirit shields/Phats Discussion
Save and except for the fact that Jagex's programming doesn't necessarily run "true" to their "advertised specs" ...

What happened to this community?
I assume you're referring to my comments, so I will choose to respond. Inasmuch as EVERY single review posted on Internet Game-Rating sites about Runescape by those people who rate games ALL and I mean ALL refer to the game-play of Runescape as "mind-numbing" and "repetitive", I felt obliged to use those same terms. Likewise, if you ever bother to read the rants and complaints on the RSOF, you will find those same descriptions from the vast majority of people who play the game. Finally, if you're trying to tell me that consistently clicking a tinderbox and a log 185,321 times, is neither repetitive nor grinding, and that I have no basis for an assessment as such -- then you've firmly got your cranium ensconsed in your backside. Obviously these aren't baseless assumptions. They are clearly oft-stated complaints about the nature of the game play. Oh -- and while you're removing your head from your rear, get over yourself already. Seriously. It's a game. You're nothing special.
-
What happened to this community?
I always find it amusing to see self-proclaimed elites connect the thought that constant, mind-numbingly grinding repetition, makes them superior in any way whatsoever to other people. Truly -- it's laughable -- is it not?

I thought rune defenders were pretty good already. Won't the Dragon Defenders be TOO good?
So then by that logic trying to predict one is silly. lol. so is all of technical analysis in trading, but then i guess ignoring a hundred-billion dollar business is inconsequential. OT: also, considering dragon defender doesn't change overall rank order for chaotic weaponry (maul>cls>rapier), i don't think it's actually that big of a deal. on the other hand, damage reduction is. 1. Contrary to what you think otherwise, it's not *ALL* about *YOU*. There aren't a lot of chaotic weapons out there comparatively speaking and they cannot be bought and sold. There's other players out there playing who cannot wield or equip those weapons. Get over yourself. 2. The original question asked was "why would the release of the Dragon Defender cause the price of the whip to rise". My answer was knee-jerk reaction. 3. I am not saying that whips will go up in value, I am merely providing reasons for why it might happen.

01-Dec-2010 - Do No Evil
nope, i'd rather just use a bandit teleport scroll. Carpets take too long anyways. I use my Camulet (Cramulet) to telly to Enakhra's temple and then run to the Ancient Pyramid from there to switch

When I am done wiping all the coffee I just spewed all over my monitor, I am going to have something very scathing to say to you about this. In the meantime, ROFLMAO! You have your right to your opinion, but I just don't see the evidence behind this. we can go back and forth all day. You don't see any evidence of anything that disagrees with your opinion. I'd call it one of your "charms" but you don't have any. :P Point is -- if it's not whips, it will be something else. A knee jerk reaction requires no logic, it simply happens when it happens ...

I'm looking forward to that :P To be honest, so am I ...

I thought rune defenders were pretty good already. Won't the Dragon Defenders be TOO good?
I lol'd OT: ~5% DPS is actually pretty significant, but nothing groundbreaking. i still don't think it's enough to warrant using DD over DFS for situations like melee vs melee pvp. bandos is arguable but if the DD is very hard to get and always risked, perhaps not. My point is that there will likely be a "blip" in the GE on certain items -- particularly those more popular weapons (like whips) -- which will be entirely a result of the kiddies and their knee jerk reaction to the issuance of a Dragon Defender. Oh -- THAT and the ensuing riot which will occur the moment that "PKer Fred" realizes that he's hitting 3 HP fewer after the whole armour absorbing thingie comes out ...
-
I thought rune defenders were pretty good already. Won't the Dragon Defenders be TOO good?
Based on what? >_> Why would a new defender increase the demand for an item when defenders already existed as well as better alternative weaponry? Knee jerk reaction? -.- Seriously -- the whip remains an extremely popular weapon -- particularly amongst those people who don't spend all their time graphing charts and mathematical formulae to determine how many thousandsth of a hitpoint they will hit better with "x" weapon against "y" armour. If you think that a whip is useful for any high level nowadays you are clearly either T or just very (and I mean extremely) S Rapier is categorically better for anyone who can have it. Who said a whip was "better"? The point is not everyone can have a rapier. Not everyone has the time to dedicate themselves to getting the levels for it. A whip can be bought by anyone with 3+ mill and 70 attack. Your problem, hun, is that you're "elite" -- and as such you've got your groove on for the top quality gear -- best weapons, potions the whole enchilada -- which is just fine for you. Really. But the VAST majority of Runescape players fall well below such requirements -- people will buy what they can afford. It's all about supply and demand.

Preliminary Analysis of Damage Soak And DDefender (Safe PvP)
I don't expect people to not like this update... it seems very fairly balanced mathematically I agree with you entirely -- but you gotta know that the minute Fred fails on his DDS special in PvP, he's gonna scream about it like a stuck pig ... It's inevitable.

Long story short -- is your prediction, therefore, that when Jagex brings in this update, will they be rioting in Fally within 20 minutes, or less?

01-Dec-2010 - Do No Evil
Surely you answered your own question when you said "teleporting with"? Spirit Trees are a form of teleport, teleports do not work. Spirit Trees are a definite "no no". Likewise, I had NO luck whatsoever with Fairy Rings despite what people say. I found the best route to simply use the carpets out of the desert and to run overland from Shantay to Port Sarim, take a boat to Port Khazard, and then run north through Ardy to the Gnome Stronghold, and then speak to Daero and take the Glider to the Ape Atoll. Of course, I used roughly 50 Ice Barrage Spells along the way, but still ...

Homosexuality: Right or Wrong?
Define homophobe. Most people would call me a homophobe, but I'm certainly not afraid of homosexuals. In fact, I have several gay friends with whom I get along quite well. ... and with these "gay" friends of yours -- do you try to "turn them straight"? Do you ask them to "pray the gay away"? Do you think they were "born" gay? Or did they "choose' to be gay? Have you, personally, ever tried to "choose to be gay"?

3rd Age/Spirit shields/Phats Discussion
Personally, I just find it damn strange that one needs to generate some 2B in junk in order to upgrade to an item that's worth only 30M more. Call me silly, but that seems to be a rather pointless exercise. lol @ not being able to figure out how to upgrade phats in 15 minutes. Ok - I lol'd at that. I really did! *wipes tear* Oh - wait. What? You're serious? No. Really. You know, this "new math" that you kids use these days makes no sense whatsoever. <_< Had it up to *here* with you. You asked, they told you, you acted like an ass. Go try and snipe a phat. Or better yet, instead of being "rude", like you think crashers are, go sell YOUR phat in the ge, let someone else get one! Meh - I already got one. Though obviously I haven't had it as long as you have had that burr up your ass. Sounds like you're the one with the problem...If you want a higher partyhat, learn how to upgrade it. It's as simple as that. What's crammed up your [cabbage] that makes this so hard to comprehend?
