Yeah, it was in today's patch notes. They're now a 1-voyage deal. I am also quite sure the only reason they didn't do that for Lifeboats too is all the nerdrage that'd come out of HLF if they did. Oh man, I totally missed that. Thanks for the info. Should not have immediately activated them again then. Oh well, live and learn :).

I just noticed that fortune of the sea and the lotus-tint spectacles got deactivated on one of my boats. I had them on all three, so I'm sure I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure when they ran out though, I thought they were permanent, so I stopped paying attention to them. My other two ships are still out, so can't check if they're gone on them too. Bummer.

I feel for you. I'm getting a bit frustrated too. 1 in 3 missions tends to fail. I'm happy if I can reach 80 to 90% missions, but some go into the 60-70% area. A few days ago, I had two 600 jade missions, failed them both and lost resources in the process . And the black marketeer keeps presenting me with bamboo and chimes. I wonder how tough the last area is going to be...

I'd advise against getting the rudder first. I got it and regretted it. Only gives +200 speed compared with the cherrywood one. For reference, the best attainable Bowl voyage time is 6:57 if I'm not mistaken.

You are missing something here which is once you send a mission you get a fresh one aswell, so it doesnt really matter if you get 2 in with high single stat req since you will always have crew lying around :P unlucky would be to get all 3 missions with single req and no leftover crew to hit at least 70% I am sending all my jade voyages at 85%+ bought one ship upgrade to get better times when i cannot put an overseer . 6k cherrywood and 3k jade saved.. almost there! I know you always have more crew than there are spots on the ships, even with four ships. I'm also aware that voyages renew. But that doesn't necessarily lead to high success rates for all ships. Right now, the leftover crew that stays behind is usually a mish-mash of different types that doesn't necessarily lead to a good combination crew for an extra ship, unless I'm lucky with the reqs. Even with three ships, I'm already post-poning certain voyages, waiting for my übercrew to come back :-). Maybe this is because I'm still new in the Bowl though (at 10%). With time, we'll be able to have all the upper rank crew members at top levels. For now however, I'm definitely not ready for ship 4.
-
I'm not so sure the fourth ship is going to be that much of a plus anyway initially, without more crew and a few good ship updates. I'm already having trouble manning my three ships adequately for 3 jade missions with the limited number of crew you can hire -- I'm never at 100% anymore. Let alone sending out 4 Bowl missions at once... That requires some luck with the stat reqs (e.g. no two high combat req voyages at the same time), or rerolling. I figure the extra ship could be a good thing to go back to other regions, but I don't need any of those resources anymore.

A small heads-up: I just sprung the resources for a jade rudder and it's hugely disappointing. Should have gotten a Judge of Dice instead.

Nobody knows what opportunist does; how it works? I have one captain with this trait, but I haven't consciously done any follow-up on its effect. Up until now, when a mission failed, I always ended up empty-handed. I haven't checked consistenty if the opportunist captain was aboard those ships.
-
I have two 10k captains. One had two positive traits, namely Eager (+morale) and Plucky (+combat), the second had Glutton (-70 speed), Quick-footed (+20 speed) and Eagle-eyed (+SF). I understand why there are negative traits, but conflicting ones seem a bit... counterintuitive. First day in the Bowl! My barmaid's mission is for 800 jade and 5.8k stats overall. I'm hoping for success, that would make for an awesome start. The special voyages' stats are a bit steep though. 14k in a given stat for story missions, 19k total for a scroll mission. Ouch.
-
I believe crew and then ship is the most suitable (Especially if you have all the upgrades already and dont really need going back), seeing you need 10k to get the 4th ship and it would take like 5-6(¿?) days to obtain all that jade (120-180 each regular voyage..maybe a 600 one special?), whereas getting better crew will help increase the % of success by a nice number using only 3.6k jade (counting 6 basic crewman for each stat at 200 jade each). Base stat crew is 1k, level 3 jade crew has the same stats as lvl 7 scythe crew which is quite a bit of difference. Thanks for the advice! It's unlikely I'll be able to resist spending some jade before going for the 10k anyway. Base stat crew being 1k is a bit disappointing though, even if it rises quickly. I have several Scythe guys with over 1.3k by now. On another note, has anyone noticed how female crew only exists in the lower ranks, good fortune wenches aside? There's a glass ceiling in the RS ship industry, you guys.
-
Nearly ready for the Bowl. I'm at 93% in the Scythe and I currently have 6k cherrywood in stock. I'm hoping I'll get to 8k before reaching the Bowl, to set aside for the extra ship. So, what's a good Bowl strategy? Do you guys reroll "old source" (gunpowder, bamboo, slate) missions? I have enough of all for all the updates, so I'm wondering if it's any use to keep doing those. Especially since I won't be able to do all the voyages in a day anymore. Should I save for the fourth ship first, or get new crew? What are the new guys' levels? I've replaced all my crew by scythe guys, who are all between level 5 and 8, so I'm not sure if they're that needed at the start of the Bowl. I'm also going to have to invest into attracting scroll missions. I gave the story missions priority, but I finished those available to me and haven't seen a scroll mission since either . Still, an easy 700+ cherrywood a day (sometimes x2) has been quite nice as well.

You only picked up on that now? ;-)

I am guessing Umi might have a role to play against Quin in the end. Wasn't PoP meant to be a new way to make money? Like MTK, but fancier. The relative rarity of bones etc would hedge against prices dropping instantly and making PoP superfluous/dead content withing a few months.
-
Make the third ship your priority, but don't waste all your daily voyages on bamboo. From now on, it'll be difficult to do all your voyages in one day, so you'll usually do a few arc/hook missions to use up your voyages anyway. You'll be swimming in bamboo and slate not so long from now. As for the crew, I'd start out with 2 or 3 per stat. Make sure you hire one or two bureaucrats, merchants and once you've unlocked her, the seawitch. You should have plenty of cherrywood to practically renew all your crew once you're farther into the scythe. Also, look into buying new captains, especially the 10k chimes ones. They come by only rarely and are worth it once your chimes are piling up.

The Scornful Strumpet The Mad Madam The Lusty Lass Keeping it a bit cleaner, I'm all about alliteration . Ship four will probably be a Wench.
-
I'm not so much bored as I have lost the sense of urgency. I've stopped using timers and the like to know precisely when to go back to my ships etc. I think it's a natural progression from "yay, new stuff" to "I'll unlock everything in my own time." How far have you all progressed into the Scythe btw? I'm only at 44%. I have all the crew I need right now (except for the elusive Sea Witch) and all ship updates unlocked, so I guess I'll be able to get in quite a few port updates/save up cherrywood before getting to the next region.
-
I still haven't gotten the Witches' voyage either. Maybe tomorrow. The cherry rudder shortens the Scythe missions to somewhere around 3h30. Definitely worth getting as soon as you can.
-
These port updates are still killing me. Whoever has been writing these, I want their job!
-
I tried waking myself up in the middle of the night for PoP once. Let's just say, sleepy, slumber-disturbed Sumpta does not care one bit about Runescape or ships . Won't be doing that again. I clearly misunderstood the voyage reroll system before now. I thought it just let you reroll a few voyages without losing them, not add voyages. Have 2 5x rerolls available, will be having fun with them to get port updates.

I don't do new year's resolutions, but I am vaguely considering: - Going back to the gym. I went regularly for 3 years, and then, 6 months ago, dropped out because I wasn't making any progress anymore. (Plus, getting far too muscled to my liking.) - Looking into moving abroad and drawing up a battle plan. My temp job ends halfway 2014 and I don't want to go back to my old job. Maybe it's time for a drastic change.

It was you! I will concede that the longer you live on your own, the harder it becomes to share your space and the less likely you are to allow others into that space. There's a reason why the "living apart together" concept is a lot more popular with older generations.
-
Oh man, I feel for you. I haven't seen a 10k chimes captain pop up since the time when I only had 8k chimes. Even used up 3 captain rerolls to no avail. I've also gone 3 days without a Scythe seafaring guy. And a merchant type sailor is still eluding me as well. Sigh.

The rudder is awesome, it was my first ship update after I got myself a few crewmen. The extra ship is very helpful too. Once I got it, the voyage reqs seemed to stagnate and even go down a bit. I was able to send out all three ships with 100% success rate on cherrywood missions. My next ship update will be a seafaring one, since I've had the bad luck of only finding one new SF guy. I've also seen new traits in the crewmen: my SF dude has "seafarer", which brings a +100 SF boost, one of my combat guys has "storm magnet", which brings -1% seafaring to the ship :(. Am now wondering if I should buy the explosives expert for 2000 speed. Does extra speed still make a difference once you have the speed rudder? I feel like there's a limit to how much you can shorten the trips.

I agree up to a point. I'm 11 levels from 2496 and there's just no way I'd risk my account by botting for a silly (trim on a) cape. Either those players botted before, or they considered themselves almighty and untouchable. Or they simply didn't care about the game anymore, but why would you want that trim then? That said, I don't think discussing the 5k games req is pointless. Fact remains, it's a random and obviously counterproductive requirement if mostly everybody is either loafing or botting it. There's always a considerable amount of grind in getting max stats for sure, but this requirement is wreaking havoc in a small part of the community (i.e. the "elite" trim folks).

I got the "A Song of Ice and Fire" box from Amazon. I'm halfway "A Game of Thrones" now, I'm guessing the next 6 books will keep me busy for a while. I'm loving it, but I've seen the series and seeing its loyalty to the books, I can't wait to move on to the new stuff in the next books.
