How many RuneScape originals from 2001 are still here?
DragnFly replied to DragnFly's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I am aware of the past oldschool threads. Most are so vague though, that players starting in 2005-2006 get labelled "oldschool". I just do not agree with that :P haha But seriously, hello :) Yeah the time has really flew by. In some ways, it does not seem like its been 10 years. Hell its been over 10 years now since Falador came out. A completely random memory for you: Do you remember when J from IRC was quitting and giving away stuff via a game of hide and seek in game? I recall me, you, sir_lance and a few others were playing. I think I got like 1500 bolts and a crossbow, among maybe a few other small things. Edit: I was getting LJ13 and Lit13 mixed. It was Lit13 who ran RuneScape 2001. -
How many RuneScape originals from 2001 are still here?
DragnFly replied to DragnFly's topic in General Discussion
No, it doesn't. Feb 2001 - sup. Highly possible. I'm in the logs of MrAndrew on the IRC logs that used to be on the Gower Archive if they're still around anywhere.... Yes I know you used to come on IRC, I remember that. Just for some reason, I want to say you lost either a rune kite or square. Go figure. The Gower Archive I believe went offline, its maintainer Ren ("Me" on RS) was running one of the MechScape fan sites last I had heard. I do have some of my old chat logs though, however I believe many are gone. I will have to check though. -
How many RuneScape originals from 2001 are still here?
DragnFly replied to DragnFly's topic in General Discussion
Well you started in the later days of RS Classic, so I will say you're a classic player. Not an original though... No, it doesn't. Feb 2001 - sup. Just was mainly curious. I have seen gunar, stompfest, Fook-A-Ji, WeatherMatt, and a few various people have either replied, and/or atleast appeared in Tip.It's userlist in the last Day or two. As such, the idea for this post was born... I seem to remember something about the name Fudgy99 and a rune kite shield I believe. Didn't you die with one back when very few had them? -
How many RuneScape originals from 2001 are still here?
DragnFly posted a topic in General Discussion
After reading the Dwarf Invasion post, and seeing that gunar and stompfest (among a few other) where posting there... I just had to make this post. Kind of curious as to how many of the original players are actually still around tip.it and/or RuneScape itself. Most pop in for a bit, then disappear for a while. (see GregEchidna6 and Erixson a few years ago) -
As you know nyo he's not been in IRC in ages. I think he had some RL health problems, but no one has seen him in months to confirm if he's ok. He's a great guy, so i hope he's doing ok. When the dwarf invasion had been lost mementh found it again after alot of trolling to find it. He then hosted it so others could enjoy it too. I'd love him to pop into IRC/RS to say hi Yeah I was the one that saved that from back in the day... http://forum.tip.it/topic/177272-an-old-old-old-runescape-movie/ I pulled it from IE6's cache, back when you where using that Game Boy layout on gunar.com I believe. I also saved this: (I have many forum signatures of old posters from the various tip.it forums of 2001-2002 saved)

Max skill total? Yes its listed. You can see it featured in the list. Due to nobody achieving 120 dungeoneering at the time of the last list, every person who has maxed out has done so since the previous list. The lists before that have different skill totals, due to dungeoneering and summoning being added at various points since i started making the list. It is not really possible to do a direct comparison between max skill totals for the long haul, as the goal always changes whenever a new skill is added. However, you can find out what the max total was any given point by visiting the previous topics. It shows the max total at the time of the topic, as well as how many had achieved it.

I know this post had died, and that this bump is a bit off-topic. However, I figured some of you might like this. Its a three-part interview with David Yost: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KelRKIMRDzA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj44tt8T7HY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmlcuY8bOUk Apparently he does a lot of work behind the scenes with shows now. I do like how he mentions Jason David Frank was quite a prankster on the set (mentioned in the second video).

You might want to read this: http://www.gotquestions.org/tattoos-sin.html Really though, I guess it depends on how you interpret the bible.

Yeah, Amy (pink ranger) has a few albums out. She also stars in Flashpoint, a police-type show on CBS. The yellow one I knew died years ago, as has been previously posted. As far as the red ranger, yeah I am pretty sure the porn thing was a look-a-like. I had heard about it several years back. I have not heard anything of the black or blue one in years, though I have not really looked much. So no idea.

Yes, he is a MMA fighter. He had four amateur fights this year, all of which he won. 4-0 record. He had his first professional fight less than two weeks ago, august 4th against Jose Vasquez, which he also won. Someone posted the fight on youtube: (part 1 - 9:25 length) (part 2 - 3:47 length) Annoying camera movement aside, you can see the fight. He won in 46 seconds. Oh and I should add by submission. So while Jesus didn't tap, Jose surely did. ;) Edit: His first amateur MMA fight: (4:44 length)

Firstly... I am a Christian, although this is not intended as a religious debate topic. Also, I ask in advance if we can please keep it civil and avoid the flaming. I'm sure many of you on this forum watched Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, probably as kids. What does that have to do with this topic, you might ask? Well... it is the reason behind the topic title. Jason David Frank, who played Tommy the green ranger/white ranger, had since gone on to pursue other interests in real life. Hes an accomplished martial artist who owns his own dojo, he is into mixed martial arts, and as I found out... owns his own MMA clothing apparel line entitled "Jesus Didn't Tap". Sources: http://thegloss.com/fashion/jason-david-frank-goes-from-green-power-ranger-to-christian-mma-clothing-designer/ http://blogs.chron.com/believeitornot/2010/05/power_rangers_christian_clothi_1.html Other links of interest: http://www.jesusdidnttap.com/ http://www.risingsunkarate.com/ http://netdugout.com/mma/2010/07/paulp/jason-frank-power-ranger-to-pro-mma-fighter/ http://www.facebook.com/jasondfrank That is just badass! It is good to see the man seems quite successful and doing well for himself all these years after the show.

Though I just talked to you, I wanted to reply here in support of this post. This is the internet, and I am well aware that copying content has become somewhat accepted. However, the least anyone can do is to credit sources when they are known. Show support for the people providing the content, rather than taking the credit yourself. Links to the original is definitely encouraged. Admittedly, this is not possible in all cases. Some times the source may genuinely be unknown, at which point the best idea is probably to be upfront and admit such rather than passing it off as your own. Also in some cases the original website may no longer be online, but you should still try to credit the source where it is known. Indeed, RS has a unique history of its own and that does need to be preserved. Sadly, it is not being preserved, atleast not with complete accuracy.

Define "worst times"? I would argue that is more a matter of opinion than fact. Harder times to live in? Possibly. However, there have been a variety of cultures and civilizations over the ages, with different points of view on life than our own. Culture is important, as its something we increasing lack as the world becomes more secular, for better or worse. Excitement and a sense of adventure is also a important part of it, as its something lacking in modern times. I actually made a post on that some time back. Really though, I think its for a variety of different reasons people find the past fascinating. History is one of the most interesting subjects out there, and if you look hard enough you will surely find something that appeals to you.

Well more about seeing the history of the country, or experiencing it rather. Not sure about living in the era on a daily basis, though i'm sure there are pros and cons to it. Yes, I do not think colonial life would be easy by any stretch. Then again, nor would most of history compared to modern times. Its just a "simpler" time, with its own share of problems.

Source: http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/History As I am sure you gathered by that little snippet, this is a topic for chat about the past (particularly, distant history). Discussion of renaissance faires, as well as historical stories (films, books, etc...) and such are permitted as well. Are there any periods of time in the past you find interesting, or even wish you had got to experience? Perhaps an older culture, or even particular events? As for myself: For me, I think Medieval Europe (especially England) is probably my favorite historical era. From the fall of the Roman Empire, up til the 17th century or so, I find it to be one of the more interesting time periods of the past. I also think experiencing the American Revolution would have been interesting, seeing the founding of my country in its earliest days, and experiencing colonial life. I would also be curious to experience the history of Christianity. Perhaps meet Jesus, experience the church in its earliest days. See the Roman Catholic Church's beginnings, The Crusades, and the Protestant Revolution. Other things I find interesting: Celtic Culture, as well as the Victorian era. So the question I lay before you is, what parts of history do you find interesting? Also, please, keep it civil and be respectful of others.

This post was initially made with Windows software in mind. As a Windows user, I tend to know more about software available for it than other operating systems. As such, I could not give any good recommendations for those systems. However, since many of you do... Feel free to add software for Mac and Linux too if you wish. I recommend putting [W], [M], or [L] after the title of each program, so we will know which it works with. While I am here, I thought I would add some additional software. In the original post, I mostly listed titles that I tend to use often. This is a more general listing of software (though I do use a few of them) that might come in handy. I only listed software that was neither in the original post, nor have I seen mentioned in replies so far. 40tude Dialog [W] - Newsreader. Wrong. LOL become popular thru places like Usenet and IRC, infact it was well common use in 1998 when I had started using the internet. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_slang As you can see, it was in use at least by 1989. The first text message was sent in 1992, and texting was not widespread for years later. Texting stole from internet slang, not the other way around.

I have been thinking, everybody here I am sure uses some free software. I do, and it seems most others do as well. An idea I had, which I have done elsewhere before, is to share the the knowledge. I figured it would be interesting and useful to share a list of some free software that I use. Then others can reply with a list of the freebies that they use. This way, maybe we can all find some good software. Basically, this is a post for freeware/open source software. No commercial software, shareware, or spyware type stuff should be posted. Well it seems there is at least two separate forms of "evil" being discussed here, acts against non-playable characters and against fellow players. While I had the former in mind with the creation of the post, both could be interesting if done right. This reply is more of a concept idea type, to figure out whether or not such a good/evil system could be implemented and to get people talking. More or less tossing around various ideas that pop up in my head, rather than saying whether or not it should necessarily be implemented in whole or part. Non-Playable Characters: NPC or non-playable character wise, this one would be the easier of the two to deal with. Given how there are already delays from being able to buy/sell from certain merchants after pick pocketing, I think this could be greatly expanded on. The idea here would be to implement a reputation system of sorts. Where, based on your reputation, you could have different restrictions and abilities imposed on you by different towns and the merchants in the towns. Clearly if you had stolen from someone in the town, nobody in that town at the very least (and possibly nobody in other towns) would be willing to do business with you either for a delayed time, or until you increased your reputation. Though some areas, like bandit camp, would probably welcome you with open arms. Also another idea, if not already available on PVP worlds, would be to bring back the idea of guards getting involved when people PK in certain areas in their presence. Of course maybe some stronger guards would help here, as clearly the current ones are not up for the task. Fellow Players: Again, this is one area I think could do with some expansion upon. As I had indicated in the initial post (and fook did in his post), there were some signs of such ideas being intended for use in the earliest days against fellow players. Most I suspect, if not all, where changed/removed due to complaints from players. As for things like scamming and luring, these are definitely evil acts. In most cases, they are quite easy to spot if you have any experience playing the game. Whether or not such things should be against the rules is debatable I suppose. However, given the average player is used to having their hands held, I am fairly certain they will remain against the rules. Then you have methods of being annoying, or causing others grief. Pile jumping, kill stealing, providing false information, spot stealing and several other examples given in the title post and previous posts would do a fair job of demonstrating some of these. These vary wildly, with various degrees of acceptability. Some actions, like being able to thieve against other players, could work by either being allowed on certain worlds (PVP worlds for example) or an option of being able to opt-in or out (like the original PK system). In fact, I think this might be the best way to implement a proper "evil" system would be just that. Either limited to certain worlds (perhaps with "relaxed rules" on those servers), or a system where you have to specifically opt in to it. Therefore those who wish to play safely can continue to do so, while those who might want to play with a bit more risk and excitement can do so as well. Another idea for being evil (only applying to those using the above world/opt in system) would be to allow people to do things while using the assist system. For example, maybe instead of cutting your gem, I decide to crush it. Edit: I would like to further expand upon the world only/opt in system, and propose an idea: Two different types of world sets. Regular worlds, which remain as they are now. Also, have another set of worlds which people can opt into that have some of the proposed dangers, "anarchy worlds" if you will. Bind characters to one type of world, or the other. Allow players to choose which they want to be part of on a character by character basis. Perhaps with an option to switch to/from said worlds every 60-90 days should they change their mind. Under such a system, you could allow various things previously mentioned on such "anarchy servers": Killing anywhere, as with the current PVP worlds. Perhaps with the level restrictions, or even none. Loot from kills could appear instantly upon death. I imagine it would still have to be based on the current system of game generated loot+possibility of some of their real items, to prevent real world trading. Thieving from fellow players Deceiving other players. Since rules like scamming and luring pertain to the individuals grief rather than the game as a whole (unlike macroing or duping), such things could be allowed on these servers. Abuses from the assist system, such as the previously mentioned destroying of gems. Possibly some sort of "kill stealing" and/or monster stealing.

As the creator of this post, I wanted to bump this one back up since it has been over two and a half years. Clearly there have been several changes to PVP since the post was originally made. Specifically the additions of PVP Worlds, and Bounty Hunter Worlds. Since I have not been a member in about a year, I was wondering if people think we have any more options of playing the villain role now than we did at time period I created the post? While I see more options for killing in general, I do not see a lot of options in the way of playing a villain even at this point in time.

The complete total of 99s were posted with the actual post. The "differences" figures between time periods were completely added in less than an hour or so later. 99 is the maximum for all but dungeoneering. Under dungeoneering, I listed both the number of 99s and 120s.
