  1. 150k user's are on tip.it? I don't think so. I said nearly 150k registered users, as in the number of accounts registered. It does not mean all are active. This is the kid's fault, not tip.it's fault. As has been stated, tip.it is not liable for problems that could occur. Parent's should monitor what they're kids do more closely. Plus, why would a kid have his picture on the computer that he has access to if he wasn't allowed to post it? If his parents didn't want him posting a picture they most certainly would not give them a digital camera. First off, a parent would not have to give their kids anything. Whats to stop the kid from using one at his friends house, or obtaining it otherwise? While it would indeed be the kids doing, if something ever happened to a kid (highly unlikely I know, but just say it did), who do you honestly think a court would side with? A parent will throw the blame on the site, for allowing it to happen in the first place. Think of the flack sites like myspace catch for kids not using their brain, or lack of proper parental monitoring. Different type of site I know, but is it such a stretch to imagine the site catching flack for the childs choices? For that matter, the two reasons there are rules now against swapping much personal identifying information in runescape itself is the fact that it puts children at risk, and that it puts them at liability. Keep in mind we live in a world where people sue McDonalds for their hot coffee being hot. As well as most courts and politicians are less than understanding about technology, even to this day. As demonstrated in this thread: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=611366 How can someone find you from just a picture? That isnt going to happen. From the picture alone, they would not unless its an easily identifyable place. However, combined with other details that they may obtain thru various means (such as location), having a picture could obviously help them recognize you. crop them? mod's have the ability to delete things. Relying on users to self crop? Alot of them dont even crop their own runescape screenshots. Sure the mods can edit it out later, but that places more work on them, and how can you know whether or not the other person truly gave permission or not to publish said photo? Maybe they are fine with it, maybe they are not. yet again, crop it. I don't see how this would be any more harmful then posting a picture on myspace or something of that sort. It wouldn't be any more harmful, but as stated above, myspace has been catching alot of flack itself. Yet again, this can be done in any other place, so whats the big deal about one more? There are alot more larger places that people would look for pictures then tip.it... I think pretty much any site would be about equal oppurtunity to steal a picture from. But I will concede that point, pictures on the internet in general are at risk. Personally, I do not have any problems with pictures being published. If anything, I think allowing users to exchange information and photos could be quite nice. Also, I dont necessarily like the fact that its against runescapes rules these days too. I am no lawyer, and I may very well be wrong on some of my points. However, the world we live in, where people are quick to point fingers and sue one another for even the most minor things, I have to think tip.it has to indeed watch its own back legally.
  2. There is quite abit of difference between allowing pictures in private boards, and allowing them in the general public boards. For starters, there is a much lower risk in the private boards, where a small select group of people who generally know each other or share a common interest can see them, rather than allowing them in a public area accessible by nearly 150k registered users. While kids may decide that they want to publish their picture for the masses to see, what if their parents found out and did not approve? Where would tip.its stance be? Most of the youth here would likely not even ask their parents for approval prior to posting. Secondly, just because its a game site does not mean its not a good place to prey on children. Maybe less of a target for little girls, but what if a predator was targetting young boys? A game-related site with a userbase as large as tip.its might even be considered ideal, as it would obviously be less patrolled in the way of law enforcement than popular blogging sites. Thirdly, what about the rights of others who may appear in the photo with the person posting? Its not uncommon for a photo to contain more than one person. So even if you choose to have your picture published for the entire world to see, what about any possible friends, family, lovers, or even strangers who may not want their pictures posted online? Fourth, what about any background scenery which people may be able to identify? It could make it easier to find out where a certain user resides, which most users would not even think about when publishing their photos. Finally, photo harvesting isn't exactly uncommon across the internet. Whos to stop someone from saving your photo, and using it elsewhere? Or even someone here, using someone elses photo and claiming it to be of them? This is a problem that runs rampant online, especially in blogging sites. Personally, I cannot decide whether or not its best to allow photos, or to keep them blocked. However, the above questions are some concerns I feel should be atleast be thought about before considering allowing photos to be posted in public boards.
  3. With the DVD movement lately, your choices in movies have gotten more complex. There are several editions available, varying screen shapes, rated vs unrated, special editions and others. The rated and unrated are usually very little difference, more of a marketing ploy as i'm sure most of you are aware of by now. Special editions are just a way to sell more copies, usually including more extras which you'll probably watch once and not again. However the aspect ratio is a noticable difference. What I am curious about is, which do you prefer? or which do you usually buy? With widescreen, you (usually) end up getting the movie as it was intended to be shown in a theater, and is usually what most film buffs tend to prefer. With fullscreen, usually pieces are cut off the sides, but it is zoomed in on and fits your standard television. Fullscreen typically usually panning and scanning to view parts of the picture where the most action is happening at the time. Both have their ups and downs in my opinion, and I wouldn't mind seeing more DVDs include both formats together. Either as a duel sided disc, or including two discs with one on each.
  4. Well see the following thread: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=452525 Could use supporters for bringing back the ACDesert theme. Think by now Albosky knows I want that one back. (sorry Alb, I just had to heckle you abit about it here. ;) ) SubTrail is alright, no substitute for the original. :D
  5. There is already a link above the forum in regards to accessing IRC, however I felt posting instructions on the forum itself would come in helpful as well as those who where confused could ask questions to other users here. I have also broke it down in more detail than the instructions listed on tip.it's IRC instruction page, in order to help beginners understand better. These instructions assume you are a first time user, obviously, as people who have used IRC before will already know how to connect. Connecting to IRC The first step to connecting to IRC is choosing which method you wish to use to connect. For the sake of these instructions, I will post methods of connecting using the onsite Java client and mirc. Please read chapter #1 for the Java client or chapter #2 for mirc. Chapter #1 - Using the Java IRC client to connect #1. Load Tip.its IRC client page into your web browser: http://forum.tip.it/chat.php #2. Log into the forums from there, if you are not already logged in. It is set up to automatically log in using your forum nickname to the #RuneScape and #Help channels. Congratulations, you have successfully connected to IRC. What you should see should look something like this: The bits I blurred out where timestamps, which I felt where irrelevant to the instructions here. Please read the instructions on tip.it's IRC page regarding registration and nickname identification here: http://tip.it/runescape/index.php?page=chat.htm#nick Chapter #2 - Using Mirc to connect #1. You will need to download the mirc IRC client from its homepage, http://www.mirc.com #2. After downloading it, run the installer and follow its instructions. #3. When you open mirc, you should see a prompt like this: Just click continue to proceed. Dont worry about the prompt, its still perfectly usable after 30 days it just likes to nag you to register it, which you should consider if you like using the program. #4. A dialog like the following should pop up: * In the "Full Name" field, I advise putting your runescape or forum name in here and strongly recommend against putting in your actual name. * In the "Email Address" field, I suggest entering something such as [email protected]. Avoid filling in an actual email address. * In the "Nickname" field, you will need to choose the name you wish to be known as on IRC. It should be under 16 characters, and not contain profanity. Again, I advise using your Runescape name or forums name. * In the "Alternative" field, I advise putting the same name as the "Nickname" field, followed by a 2 or another number. Although it can be unique, should you choose to have a unique fallback name. When you have finished, it should look something like the following: #5. Click the "Servers" option under connect. You should receive the following dialog: Double click the mini IRCnet folder to close it, then click the Add button on the side. The following dialog should appear: * In the "Description" field, enter "Tip.it". * In the "IRC Server" field, enter "irc.tip.it". * In the "Ports" field, leave it set to 6667. * In the "Group" field, enter "Tip.it". * In the "Password" field, leave it blank. It should look like this: Click "Add". #6. You should now see Tip.it in your servers list, like the following: The Tip.it server, inside of the tip.it folder should already be highlighted. If it isn't, click it to highlight it and press the "Select" button on the right side. #7. Go back to the main Connect dialog, and ensure Tip.it is listed under the "Server" option, like so: If so, click the "Connect" button. The following dialog should pop up: #8. Press the "Add" button, the following dialog will open: * In the "Channel" field, enter "#RuneScape". * In the "Password" field, leave it blank. * In the "Description" field, type "Tip.it Chat Room". * In the "Networks" field, click add button below it and select "Tip.it". * In the "Options" field, check "Join on connect" and leave "Minimize on join" unchecked. * In the "Folder" field, leave it blank. It should look like the following: Click the "OK" button. Then in "mIRC Favorites" dialog, uncheck the "Pop up favorites on connect" option. Then click "Join". Congratuations, you have successfully connected to IRC. For future connects it will be easier to connect. After opening mirc, close the About dialog by pressing continue, press the Options dialog button on the toolbar (hammer and folder button), ensure "Tip.It" is still the selected server and press the connect button. Please read the instructions on tip.it's IRC page regarding registration and nickname identification here: http://tip.it/runescape/index.php?page=chat.htm#nick Frequently Asked Questions What is IRC? IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat, one of the oldest forms of chat on the internet dating back to 1988. What is a network/server? A IRC network can consist of one or more servers. Tip.it's currently consists of a single IRC server. Other popular networks, such as dalnet, efnet and undernet are networks consisting of several servers linked together, and able to communiate with other servers on their peticular network. What are channels? A channel is a name for a chatroom on an IRC network. What is NickServ? Alot of IRC networks offer a form of nickname registration, usually called NickServ, to protect your nickname and prevent others from posing as someone they are not. Tip.it's IRC offers this feature. What are voices, halfops, ops, protected ops, and founders. Voiced users and above can chat when the channel is set to moderated, which is uncommon, hence the name voice. Half operators, or halfops, have some of the power normal operators do. Ops, or operators are staff in charge of running the channel. Protected ops have the same power as other operators, but cannot be kicked from the room by anyone other than the founder. Founder is the individual who created the room, and have the final say in all matters regarding the room. You will recognize these users in the names lists, voiced users have a + by their names, halfops have a %, ops have a @, protected ops have a &, and the founder has a ~. Do NOT beg for ops, voice or any other status in the room. Like on the boards, it will only serve to annoy the staff and likely to help you receive a ban from the room. What are the rules for using Tip.it's IRC network? Read them here: http://tip.it/runescape/index.php?page=chat.htm#rules I've been banned, what should I do? Again, see the instructions here: http://tip.it/runescape/index.php?page=chat.htm#bans Are their any other programs to connect to IRC? Plenty! Its a common misconception amongst beginners that IRC is a program, where as its in actuality a protocol. Think of it like web browsers and email clients, there are many different programs that will allow you to use IRC, which one you decide to use is entirely up to you. Search the internet to find plenty of others.
  6. In my opinion, it would seem only natural to add discussion of television shows to the music and movies board. I think most people are unaware if such discussions belong there or the off topic board. This might also help to increase liveliness to that board, which besides its lack of life currently, could very well be renamed the "Music, with an occasional Movie post" board. Which would be one of the reasons I rarely even read that board at the present stage. I figure one of the reasons film isn't discussed as much is due to the mature nature of most films released today, which cannot be discussed in depth on tip.it being a family board. This cannot be helped in itself, but television shows are generally more family friendly than most films released these days, and would allow for more in depth discussion. Of course for certain posts, the proposed spoiler mod might still be desired, but that is a separate issue in and of itself.
  7. Be sure to let us all know the time, perhaps I will be able to come. Congratulations
  8. Good article, I would definately say I found it a better read than last weeks. My opinion is that we could use more articles like this, interviewing more older players or discussing the history of the game rather than just a brief talk about whatever update happened the last week or two, or whats coming in the near future. Zonghui and than Fckedyomomm. Or wait.. Was Fcked the 4th ? .. Anyway he was banned. #1. Zonghui #2. Ladykilljoy #3. Gregechidna6
  9. Peter (Pure_MageUK) has been kind enough to provide storage room to host the images, hopefully this will keep all pictures loading instead of having to deal with random imageshack links dieing. I will be upgrading links as time permits. Also, Frizoid has been converting many of them to transparent copies for me, which will greatly reduce file size and thus loading time of the thread. For those of you who need the non transparent copies, I will be converting those to link forms.
  10. For those of you who haven't seen it, as the title suggests last nights south park was a poke at world of warcraft, and MMORPGs in general. A hilarious season premiere. Recap of the episode:
  11. Andrew and his brothers, apparently, had quite an interest in the Atari ST system. Lets start with this peticular emulator for the PocketPC called CastCE. URL: http://www.pocketinfinity.com/ Battle Zone (Atari ST game) URL: http://www.atarilegend.com/games/games_ ... 66434c44fb Destruction Imminent (Atari ST game) URL: http://www.atarilegend.com/games/games_ ... 66434c44fb Parallax Painter (Atari ST game) http://www.atarilegend.com/games/games_ ... 66434c44fb To the best of my knowledge, all of these titles are non commercial freeware, according to their respective sites.
  12. As Kiara had stated, I submitted it to her. Never know, you might be #3 to reach 99 in "abking" too ! ;)
  13. What happened to all your replies? Anyways all the rest of the rooms are online, thank goodness. So all thats left is filling in blanks, and upgrading other pics.
  14. Alot of the updates lately have been adding images to existing rooms, upgrading existing images with better quality ones. However, I have added the workshop to the list of rooms today.
  15. I found one at the same party I just took the skeletal throne pic from, however there was 20 people or so in the room at any given time and I couldn't get them to move from the throne. One pic I took of it appears to be alright, so I went ahead and posted it. I would prefer to find a crystal throne picture without anyone sitting on or around it though.
  16. Thanks to everyone for their submissions, they are all appreciated. If anyone has an unedited picture of a demonic throne, from someones house without anyone in it zoomed in well, preferably at an angle i'd love a copy of it. In the meanwhile, I went ahead and used the existing one on this thread, as demonic throne pictures are hard to come by. Also, some things very from room to room, such as rugs. Which are different sizes and shapes, so when submitting those, I appreciate if you tell me which room they come from. Been adding room by room, usually as I have afew pictures taken or submitted of each and get around to it. Any pictures for rooms not yet added will still be considered when they are added to the list. :)

  18. This isn't a "show me your house" thread. This thread is meant to organize and gather pictures of all buildable items in construction. Why this thread? Well look around. There are many items that its hard to find screenshots of, 3 months after the release of the skill. Everyone has the small depictions of the item, but to my knowledge nobody has a complete image collection of all the built items. I have had to build quite afew items myself, just to see what they look like which is a waste of time and money. All pictures submitted must be PNGs, and should originate as a PNG or BMP and should not converted from or saved as a JPG to preserve image quality. They should also be as zoomed in as possible, without yourself or as few items as possible in the picture so the focus is on the item itself. Transparent copies provided by Frizoid. 19. It is inevitable that there will be mixed opinions on articles. Theres going to be someone who likes them, and someone who dislikes them. The thing is to express your opinion in a civilized, mature manner. Now there have been a lack of interesting articles lately. Admittedly, not everyone can be great or controversial, and I mean no disrespect to the staff, but there has been abit of an dry spell. I believe we have established since the "Bias Banning Raises Brows" article, the times articles have leaned towards the "safe" side. Is it out of respect to Jagex? Fear of the consequences? Both? Neither? I don't think anybody but those responsible for the publishing of such articles can say either way for sure. The times article can focus on a peticular event, an update, a fictional story, a look into the past, predictions for the future, interviews, or just about anything else. I sent Kiara some suggestions for future articles about a week ago, that I hope will help them regarding ideas for future articles. I encourage others to post their thoughts and suggestions for future times articles, which Kiara stated earlier in this thread should be done here. Things I have suggested for future articles are: [*:kmr1h8hg] Pieces on former glitches, such as the knife bug or magic secateur bug. [*:kmr1h8hg] An article discussing the rules of the game, and which ones people think are needed and which ones should not be rules. [*:kmr1h8hg] A piece on findings before release or ones have not been released, such as construction materials. [*:kmr1h8hg] An article covering the popular "Underground Farm" tale. [*:kmr1h8hg] Interviews with Jagex staff, especially Andrew and Paul Gower themselves, being the creators and heads of the game. [*:kmr1h8hg] A look back thru the years, starting from the beginning in 2001 and covering thru the present day.
  20. Not necessarily, I am not talking about removing fish. Rather, i'm talking about giving people a reason to cook other things as well. Thats why if there was ever an separation (which is unlikely), then current experience would have to stay with the fish cooking skill. To clarify, I meant cooking outside of fish. I would say it probably sees less use than firemaking, as more people probably light fires at the nearest fishing spot to cook a fish than people who bake a thing.
  21. The thing I don't get is, what business is it of anybodys but the people in a relationship to begin with? Its quite common that I hear people hurling insults, trying to start something where it is not needed. Atleast they are playing their game, minding their own business where as the people who dare to stick their nose in are too busy trying to dictate how others should play instead of worrying about how they themselves want to play the game. Are there scams out there involving this? Absolutely. Are they easy to spot? Yes. Avoiding these so called "relationship scams" is quite easy. If some stranger whom you never met walks up, and asks "will you be my gf/bf", then you can pretty much guarantee its a scam. Not everyone who has an relationship in RS is a scammer. There are players whom have been friends for quite awhile, perhaps its done for roleplaying purposes, or perhaps they are developing real feelings for one another. There are many reasons why people in RuneScape get into relationships, which I touched upon a month or so back here. Making rules to protect people from their own stupidity just breeds and encourages stupidity, it doesn't resolve the problem. I'm not saying wrong-doers should not be punished because they should, but I am saying stop relying blindly on the rules to protect you from everything bad that can happen. It does not exactly take a rocket scientist to figure out how to avoid things like this. Its very similar to scamming, luring, and keyloggers. Apply alittle common sense, and educate yourself and you will be safe. Making a rule against relationships in RuneScape only stops the legitimate ones, not the scammers. Former pieces on the RuneScape homepage: Jen happens to be a friend of mine. While i've never got to know Pug personally, hes always seemed like a good guy as well. If you need to see the news from someone more official to prove it was listed, go here. It was removed awhile back, I suppose because they are discouraging people from exchanging personal information nowadays.
  22. While there is some truthfulness to that, I do not feel it will ever see any real use unless something is done. Every single thing Jagex has done to try to entice and encourage users to actually make use of anything other than fish as failed miserably. This thread is for the discussion of putting cooking to better use, in any means possible, and thoughts upon how cooking used to be as compared to how it is nowadays. By the way I have made a few updates to the post.
  23. There are very few people left who remember when cooking was more than just using a fish on the nearest fire or range. When players spent their evening, baking bread and pies or fermenting their wine the old fashioned way, up and down the ladders in the cooking guild. When fishing launched on 06/11/2001, it was the death of the cooking skill as we had all knew it. No longer would people slave over a hot range cooking delicious meals in the land that we call RuneScape. Instead, people camped out at Karamja with a tinderbox and a hatchet, catching and cooking fish. Not to mention the addition of afew new fish, and a fishers guild amongst other things that have been added since which further encourages the uselessness of cooking itself. People can sit in the fishing guild for ages, catching, cooking, and then banking or selling to the shop contained therein. Cooking went from an unique skill, to little more than a secondary skill for fishing. There have since been plenty of updates to cooking attempting people to make more use out of it, such as several experience increases, restoration of certain amounts of fatigue in classic, and even stat boosts to some skills in runescape 2. Has any of this had any effect at all? Nope. People refuse to cook because fishing is faster, and easier. Fish are better to use in combat too, getting that whole heal rate in 1 bite is pretty handy in a life threatening scenario. Not to mention that cooking is seen amongst many young males as "girly", and "unmasculine". So what can be done to rectify this? Well to start with, I think we need to separate the cooking of fish and meats, and the cooking of thngs such as pastrys and drinks into separate skills. How would that have any effect you ask? Because being a separate skill, people will cook just for the sake of raising the skill alone. I honestly do not believe Slayer would be nearly as popular as it is now, had it not have been a separate skill and offered unique rewards. Afterall, when you think about it, the slayer skill is little more than a addon to combat. Considering that the majority of the levels and experience the average runescape has gained has been from cooking fish, to the extent of 99% to 1% practically, I think most of the experience would be best transferred to the fish and meat cooking skill and the new skill be allowed to start anew, on an fresh start. Incentives and other uses could be added to them as well, encouraging players to actually utilitize the skill. The stat boosts that you see in some of the pies would be an example of such incentives, although I do think we would need to find a proper incentive that could be applied to all foods. Perhaps energy restoration, which would vary depending upon the type of food? Getting into the cooking guild should mean something, and it should have some use. The entire guild needs an overhaul and expansion, making way for many additions and changes that should accompany the new cooking abilities. It also needs a higher level to enter, I mean 32? Thats abit low compared to other guilds, atleast raise it up abit. The possibilitys are endless, provided that they are explored and tried, rather than just simply being disregarded. I think its about time that the cooking skill stop being neglected, and put to use.
  24. I just update it alittle to add a path for switching to yews at 70 fletching, gold smelting, and a method for cooking. Shaddd, how so? I do not see any inaccuracys in the figures? Cbkviper, not long really. Keep in mind tip it has guides, skill calculators, and the experience table which makes it much easier to figure upon the exact amounts needed and cuts down on time drastically.
