basically...i wanted another degree to fall back when i look for a job...itll give me more opportunities and different jobs to choose from but will a few courses in CS suffice? or even a minor? i know plenty of people major in something...then their job has nothing to do with the degree...but i want to make it useful

thank you very much Miss Mad :D Yeah my college advisor was not very helpful at all haha. I talked with her today and she said to choose my electives at home. i wanted to put my electives to good use (a double major or minor)...so it looks like i may email the dean. the freshmen classes for CS and Aero are exactly the same...but it looks like after that it would be a real pain in the [wagon] to double major. all my electives would go towards the double If i were to minor in CS, i cannot take any of the Minor courses until the Spring as they all have pre-reqs. if double majoring is not going to be an option...i will probably choose "Intro to Java" as one of my electives until the Spring anyway..thanks a bunch more replies please :3>

wat up guys, i know this isn't the best forum to ask this question, but i know there's lots of people here who are in college or have degrees. (i also posted the question elsewhere...but i love this community) i recently enrolled in Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University as an Aerospace Engineer. here is a link to the requirements for a degree: http://www.aoe.vt.edu/academics/undergrad/AEcurric.php however, i also was looking into CS as a possible major...here are those requirements: http://www.cs.vt.edu/images/stories/und ... ksheet.pdf my options were to: 1.) double major in CS and Aero or 2.) Major in Aero and minor in CS wat would be the overall best option for me? would it be pretty difficult to do a double major with these 2 courses? would a minor be more than enough and render a double major pointless?

It doesn't matter what cd you use. The OS version (XP Home, XP Pro, ect) on the cd just has to match the version your key is linked to. So, if you own an XP Home cd key, you can use any XP home cd to do your install. You just have to use your key when it asks for it. yeah...that is what i thought as well... however...when i did the install strictly with my dad's CD the key i used did not work :-s
-
i think that that was not a legal version of XP... however..if it is...all you gotta do is call microsoft up and tell them you formated your HDD and need a new key... theyll ask for your old key and wat your cd looks like and stuff...and its a pain in the [wagon] too seeing as sometimes the key they give does not work i had a bad OEM version come with my pc (the cd was bad) and the install would fail half way through the formating process. so i used my own cd for half the install and then switched to my dads cd for the rest and my original key worked b/c the of the cd i started the installation with.

magekillr replied to nightshade53's topic in Tech and Computers
tablets are well over 1000 USD for anything decent...and they are a dead technology (no offense) any computer with decent system memory and proc speed can play RS tho (even integrated video). however...you have wireless internet on a bus trip? :? -
1 GB is fine for now. I would suggest upgrading now...but RAM falls at such a quick rate nowadays i would wait a bit and see if you can save 20-30 bucks. RAM is so cheap now though that upgrading now would be a decent suggestion as well. if you wanna save 30 bucks or so...wait a bit and look for a deal. if not...just get it now (2 1GB sticks) i mean...look at this RAM...pc6400 (double the frequency of mine) and the latency is superb. i bought my 1GB a year ago (pc 3200..2 512's) for like $100. and now for 2GB at double the frequency it is at $158 with a mail-in rebate. see how quick it falls lol? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145590

yeah...if your computer restarts itself like that it usually means that it is overheating. if you have an intel p4 i can almost guarantee that you are using the heatsink that it came with and that it is overheating. i have the same issue at times b/c intels heat up very quickly. i was going to buy a copper heatsink to resolve the issue...just never got around to it though. (doesn't happen very frequently...maybe once a month) grab a pure copper heatsink...and it will most definately not overheat...that is unless you are using your computer in a very very hot room lol

we need to keep them. post counts do more than encourage spam...they allow trust to be gained among other users... true..someone could build a slight post count and then be just as untrustworthy as a person coming in with 0 posts...but it is a lot less likely. i know in the pking section many people post pking videos. if someone with 0-200 post count posts one...i know i myself would not download it and if i did not recognize the person's name i would scan it as well. (and probably still not download it...any1 who knew me on rs would know why i would not)

sing it brother =D> anyway...sometimes even though you never will use it in class...some colleges *cough* virginia polytechnic college of engineering *cough* are persistant about their requirements and if something is required...they don't care...they just want you to have it  ...though i still have not given up in my fight against Virginia Polytechnic's tablet pc requirement...they insist on being ahead of technology like when they were the first university in the world to require a desktop computer in 1984...

like i said...i am not using this for gaming. the only game i will play on it will be WoW...and it won't limit the selection of games to play b/c i can use windows on the Mac... i am just asking if it's worth paying $600 more for a 2 inch bigger screen and a dedicated video card i may look on ebay for a good deal :-w edit: here is a video i found to show some of its performance...not sure of the specs but it is a Macbook...not a pro http://www.mactechnews.de/images/conten ... eos/v5.mp4

i am starting to practice with different video editing softwares...i first started with windows movie maker and have now moved onto Vegas 6 (cracked version of course...sue me) anywayz...i compressed my video using the default settings on WMV9 and the damned thing was so big (like 167MB for a 16min long movie)...(it was playing the music+video together at like a 1500 fps...much bigger than i wanted) so i need to know different bit rates for the video portion and music portion so it won't lose too much of the quality...and the best video extension for the best overall quality/quantity

I don't think that's true. The GPU is more important, this is particularly evident when overclocking the GPU. meh...either way...it still shows that the video is the thing to look at over the system memory or CPU frequency yeah this computer i will use for everything...and play a game in my spare time here and there. i want the ability to use Mac OSX..and if i ever needed windows it would be on the same machine..thus why i want a Macbook. i think their benchmark also only used 512MB of RAM....but i culd be wrong. either way the fps didn't even match the Macbook Pro's of 50+ fps (which did have more RAM...and much better graphics unit) here is the review: http://www.macworld.com/2006/05/reviews ... /index.php and a forum discussion from apple's site: http://discussions.apple.com/message.js ... ID=2352140 after reading all this...now i think i am turning towards the Macbook Pro...considering you can never upgrade the GPU or the vRAM so all in all...i need to know if this is worth "the bang for the buck": option 1 option 2 and the ipod nano's are there b/c i get them free with rebate...i will then sell the ipod nano without opening it...so i'd get like 360-400 back on both deals
-
that's good news...thanks a bunch for your input :) it's just that they said Unreal 2004 only gets like 18.4 fps... :-X ..and it made me a bit sketchy about its gaming capabilities any1 else?
-
agreed not to mention they are being rushed to finish this and it will suck. it's finished version will be nowhere near wat it could have been...and i will expect after 6 months of its release like 2 service packs... even if they culda done wat it was supposed to do (and had enough time) it would still suck...oh well...maybe the next OS will be Unix based like all good OS's :-w
-
well i investigated even more...looked into the benchmarks...and i was shocked i was originally gonna purchase a Macbook-white with 1GB RAM at 2.0 Ghz with an 80GB HDD...but now i am not so sure i am not a hardcore gamer (computer gamer)...but i was going to play WoW on it...that is until i looked at the graphics chip in the Macbook Video ram is like the most important thing in any computer...not the proc speed and regular memory...and the regular Macbook takes some of the regular memory as well as its own video memory now...would i notice a serious difference in game play between the Macbook and the Macbook pro running WoW? or would it be fairly minimal? :-k

after trying my friend's Powerbook...and then trying his new Macbook...i'd say OSX as any new inexperienced computer user only knowing a windows interface...i always thought "Mac's suck" only b/c that is what i heard haha  then when i was like 13 i used a Mac for myself and was amazed  . ever since then i wanted a Mac but they were so expensive. with the new release of the Macbook and now that i am older with money..i am looking forward to using OSX on the new Intel mac 8-)

many thanks mate 8-)

i am new to macs and i am still on my quest to have a macbook instead of that gay tablet PC... my college orientation is on July 27th to the 29th and i am going to present the fact that i can use a graphic tablet to draw on a screen instead of a tablet pc...and see what other reasons the college has for making us use a tablet now my question is...is bootcamp or parallel a better choice to do a windows boot on the mac? and can i put OSX on the actual macbooks HDD and put the bootcamp/parallel on a separate external USB HDD? or must it be a dual boot?

Any1 used Tablet PCs? (my college requirement)
magekillr replied to magekillr's topic in Tech and Computers
that gateway is prolly the best deal that the school posted...even though gateway is horrible.. the HP's are much more expensive for the same specs...and one of the HP's they posted don't even meet the requirements  anyway...i got freshmen orientation July 27-28 and i am going to talk to someone in person before committing to anything -
