  1. I'll just repeat what blade said. Scan again in safe mode. That may fix the problem. On a side note, some of the old comps in my school library got over 3000 items by the end of the year. (They were never touched by network admins and of course the cookies were never cleared).
  2. You can install a video card if it's pci. I'm sure someone has a good tutorial, so I won't bother with that. My comment is that you should post the exact details of the card. A celeron machine with 256MB of system ram probably wouldn't need a card with 256MB... I think depending on the card you can step down a bit and get the same performance. PCI is a big limiting factor and so is the lack of system ram and speed...
  3. Some basic info please. Do you connect with a router? If not, what software do you use to connect? What OS are you running? How is the modem attached to your computer assuming you don't have a router (ubs, ethernet)?
  4. Whether or not it's on your computer, doing what the_sith suggested will let you reinstall it. Read carefully, he didn't tell you to check the add/remove programs menu...
  5. If you're going to do external, I'd get an internal and a usb hd box. I got a maxtor 250BG for $60 a while ago and a no-name $20 usb box online. I'd check some deals online. You'll save tons of money. Bestbuy just had a 250GB WD for $60 after rebate a few days ago... I really don't think that an internal is that hard... Not sure how you can screw up a comp plugging in a hd if you have at least a small amount of computer knowledge...
  6. Assuming you can handle a second hd, you just set the jumper to slave and plug it in. First you need to tell us what kind of motherboard you have and what kind of drive you want to plug in.
  7. No, but that would be really cool!
  8. From what you said, I'm gathering that you have a comp with 1 hd in it and another hd just sitting on a shelf or something? If you just want to copy between the 2 you can see if your comp will accept both drives. What are you doing with this other drive? Are you just using it for storge or putting it into another comp or what?
  9. Assuming you're talking about normal mmorpgs like worldof warcraft or guildwars, vb and java are almost never used. C/C++ are by far the most popular languages for professional game development.
  10. You really don't have to post it when I've just said it...
  11. Someone end the madness! I can't take it any longer...
  12. I have to say that fable is one of the best games i've ever played! Kind of short, but it's just so good!
  13. I think that it'd be much worse if you scratched the million side, put the ticket in your wallet, went down to wherever you claim the prize, opened your wallet, and found that a coin in your wallet had scratched a sliver off of the other side big enough to dq you. That's really what you should be worried about!
  14. Actually, they didn't suddenly decide to rid the world of ms java vms. It's only illegal for Microsoft to distribute. The software is still legal and available. Here's a link http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/javavm.html
  15. For shockwave, you would need shockwave. And for flash, you would need flash. Both programs made by macromedia. Both with 30 day trials. From the description of coffee cup, it didn't sound like it could edit any of the script or advanced features of flash needed to make a game...
  16. Can you buy it in the store or do you have to buy it online? I don't think that they'd sell it to you...
  17. Not really. If you make a post without actually telling anyone what you want, you deserve a few flames. If you're going to post, try to communicate with the people who are going to read it...
  18. I don't think I've ever seen a computer store that doesn't sell crappy keyboards for $5 or less... I'd imagine that third-party keyboard programs work the same way aas the windows one. If it doesn't work and the ones you've tried don't work, then I doubt you'll be able to get those keys to work.
  19. From the error message, it appears that windows is trying to run the picture files as if they were executables. Give some more info, such as: what hapens when you try to open files that you downloaded from the web? try downloading a pic from tipit like my sig or the logo and then try to open it. It's possible that the files people are sending you are corrupted or coming through with incorrect extensions. And for the basic question. You know the people sending the files, right?
  20. Ignore that. The first thing, you should try is scanning with an online virus scanner.Try this http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ If you have no viruses (or even if you do and you get rid of them), uninstall and then reinstall norton. Then scan with that. Post again when you've done that. A hijackthis log would be a good thing to post after you've done all of this. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
  21. Let me simplify. Ignore everything in Balke's posts and people responding to him. He's just trying to cover for his lack of knowledge and doing a bad job of it. Upgrading a laptop is a bad idea. Lot of work, kind of hard, generally a waste of money. That is assuming there's anything you can do to upgrade your laptop. A p3 at 800mhz with 512mb of ram needs no more ram, and I doubt you could change the vid card. Depending on the mobo, you might be able to get a slightly faster cpu, but I doubt it. Bottom line: don't bother trying to upgrade it. Save the money, get a new dell. They have $750 off cupons all of the time. Use one and get a new machine.
  22. Your argument falls apart when it is noted that ie can also block popups and with some work become nearly as safe as firefox (albeit it requires a ton of work but that's the price you pay to use IE).
  23. control panel->system->device manager(under hardware tab in xp) You can find your vid card under display adapters. Sound is probably onboard but you can check under sounds, vid, and game controllers.
  24. https://upload.video.google.com/ google owns :)
