*fluffles* Lightning :D. things have changed a little since the last time we spoke about ads. Gone are the days of my sites getting a half dozen hits a day lol and I do now know the problems that arise from running large websites. The Battlestar Wiki is by far nowhere near the size of tipit (approx 30,000 views a day) but we still have had the same kinds of problems with bad adverts in the past. Its painful to sort out but its not as complicated as you make out. We are now using the ad provider Adbrite. They allow you to white list only the ads you want rather than having to blacklist the bad ones. Every few days you just have to approve/deny the text, banner and flash ads that you want. You can also deny any 3rd party advertisements (which tend to be the malware ones). Basicly not a single ad will show unless you specifically approve it. The problem with Google is that you don't have a choice when someone wants to advertise on your site and you end up advertising competitors or sites that go against the rules such as gold sellers. On Adbrite you would just deny this request and the advert would not appear. Perhaps it would be worth just giving them a trial run? Maybe only on the front page for a month, for example, just to see how you get on with them.

Kids caught committing gang related offenses should be forced to have a vasectomy. Gang culture is poisoning the well of communities and the only way to stop it is to remove the manlyness aspect of it. Its a harsh but fair punishment and reversable for when they grow up and get out of the gang.

Google does pay well as someone said but there are other ad agencies that pay better which is why Tip.it does not exclusively use them. Parabola really hit the nail on the head though, I have told administrators for years about Burstnet and I have always been ignored (why i bolded some of ricks post). It really says something when staff tell people to get ad blockers instead of simply stopping displaying malware ads.

Don't listen to i123i about hardware. Unless you have access to the original source files, which you wont have and cant buy, then you cant do it. There's stuff you can do using some more advanced software to attempt to remove some parts of a track but theres no magic bit of kit that removes vocals from any given song.

I would guess its because you are using some kind of skinning program. try taking the theme off or just using a different one and see if the problem persists.

Extra database fields and unnecessary sql queries just to make 1 out of every 1000 people a little happier. So the admins make one extra field then the people with three chars ant another, and then another and another. You cant please all of the people all of the time. Just put which ever character you are currently using in there. The world doesn't revolve around you.

For a start he didnt make that clear, second why would you want to use something other than phpmyadmin? Its free under a GPL license and by far the best software of its kind available for the general public

Something I have discovered when people have problems searching is that its the person who is doing something wrong rather than the actual search function is broken.

Adbrite allows you to only display network and CPC ads based on a white list rather than blacklisting bad ones. You can choose EXACTLY what adverts you want to display and you just need to log in every few days to approve/deny the adverts. Its a simple process and means that you never get adverts that you dont want on your site. I have no idea why Tipit continues to use advertising companies who constantly foist ad ware and porn adverts onto its users.
