  1. It'll stay open, there will just be an additional one as well.
  2. The SATU is being renamed SATO, the South Atlantic Treaty Organization. Panama is the Northernmost country, and it will likely stay that way. A missile defense grid is being set up along the coastline, and naval production facilities are being set up, two per coastal country, with 5 in Brazil. The naval facilities will be done in 5, and the Missile defense in 6-7.
  3. Where's all the alcohol in the US coming from? Surely the speakeasys won't be too happy about it, nor the gangs running smuggling operations. Oh wait, prohibition ended and then there was no more need for that. Drug kingpins would just become unprofitable and fail. Also, ever heard of a vaporizer? Icu, you have no clue what you're talking about.
  4. In my country, all drugs are legal, though the heavier drugs (Opiates, varieties of coca derived products, amphetamines, etc.) are heavily regulated, and all purchases are recorded and heavily taxed. Most workplaces do not allow their employees to use those drugs, which prevents a lot of usage.
  5. Considering there's medical marijuana in a lot of places, it's obviously not all bad. The risk of addiction is very low, in a study with 500 heavy users there weren't many symptoms of withdrawal, and no extremely serious ones. With mental issues, it's not that big of an issue, areas with high cannabis use have roughly the same amount of people with mental issues (that they think are caused by cannabis) as areas with very low usage rates. Also, correlation does not imply causation is a big factor in a lot of studies, so it's hard to tell. And alcohol is a drug. "A drug, broadly speaking, is any substance that, when absorbed into the body of a living organism, alters normal bodily function" That's WHO's definition.
  6. Cannabis Sativa/Indica is actually near-impossible to administer lethal dose of, you'd need to smoke at least ten kg of it in short time to achieve that. Alcohol kills people, would lower standard of how people work, it's a bad drug. Tobacco kills people, makes working uncomfortable for others, it's a bad drug. Weed is a lot safer than both of those. So icu, don't act like you know about this when it's obvious you don't. The only thing is in some cases if you're already genetically predetermined to be at risk for schizophrenia it can make you into a schizophrenic, but it won't kill you.
  7. You can say the exact same thing about legalized alcohol. If someone comes into work drunk, you reprimand or fire them. If someone comes into work stoned, you do the same. After a few years it'll become a normal part of society.
  8. I think you have got your tonnage wrong somewhere (272*5 is only 1,360, and that is not even South America.), can you give me a link? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_gold_production Peru=203 Chile=42 Brazil=40 Columbia=15 Venezuela=13 203+42+40+15+13=323 tonnes a year*5= ~~1400 (not really, but I only want 1400 for now). That's not all of South America either, so around 60-70 tonnes annually is unaccounted for there, which will be sold normally. Also, there's no way South Africa would join Japan. It's very European dominated, and doing pretty well on it's own. (atleast the governing class is, and for takeovers diplomatically, that's what counts)
  9. The amount of gold we mine is comparatively small, South Africa has almost more gold than the entire continent, so buy from them. Or china. Or the US. Or Aussie. And 1400 tonnes would come to about 45 billion over 5 years. Considering it's all bought within a trade union with countries sharing a currency, I think I can handle it.
  10. $1000 for 1400 tonnes of gold? Score! Haha...Brazil is poor... And the last batch of military equipment (all of Ukraine's) went for 30b. Eh, I have no idea why it says I have 1000$ on the front page. Considering my GDP is over 2 trillion. Meh, I'd rather not spent 30b on somewhat antiquated equipment. Sell it to the crazy warlords, that was we can have more enormous conflict to "protect" small countries. Also, is that Suez Canal dam still being built?
  11. Well, how much do you want for all of the military equipment? I imagine I could keep it in reserve or melt it all down if needed. EDIT: Why do I have 1000$? I'm pretty damn sure that Brazil has more than a thousand bucks. EDIT2: All SATU gold mined for the next 5 years will be purchased by Brazil. This will total to around 1400 tonnes of gold. Also, stats for SATU: Gold Reserves:542 Tonnes Population:435m GDP: 5326B
  12. A further suggestion is to get rid of mandatory minimums for hard drug use, as they are pointless and were brought on by a panic in past decades. This doesn't mean that you legalise all drugs, it just basically means that judges have a choice on how long to sentence people for, instead of being forced to give ludicrously long sentences for small amounts possessed. Also, Dusty, I'm thinking for deep mining 5 years til it becomes useful, 15 til it's really good, and 30 til it's "perfected". I guess the same for robots. All/any SATU (south america+Panama) Assets in Swiss banks have been removed and transferred to domestic banks. My current projects: Robotics (esp. mining) Deep Earth Mining Nanofiber/materials Advanced nuclear reactors CAD New line of guns. New canal across Panama Solar fields/solar cities (roofs covered with panels) Advanced batteries Hydrogen power cells New planes, ships, and tanks. Probably a couple more I've forgotten.
  13. Huge step in the wrong direction. Want to lower your prisons? Get rid of mandatory minimum sentences for drugs, and free people put in jail for drugs, and put in place new drug laws. Literally 80% of your jails will be drained, and crime in general will plummet. Just saying. The Slavic Republic would like to join in on this research, if that's alright. Together it'll take less time. If not, then I'll just start the same research anyways. :P Sure, no reason not too, and seeing as you would be starting it on your own it's not like I'd be the sole holder of this technology. So yeah, we can collaborate.
  14. A second canal in Panama is starting construction. It'll be done in 5-8 years, and will make shipping a lot easier, and cheaper. The South American Trade Union (SATU) has begun research on deep earth mining, which could increase our production greatly, and also robotic/automated mining is being looked into, making the loss of life in mines and inhumane mining techniques a thing of the past. In Brasil, a new program to put solar panels on the roof of every building (except those where sunlight is minimal) has begun, and will start in Brasilia, to test it's effectiveness. If sucessful, it will move on to the rest of the nation's major cities, and eventually the rest of the continent. Cryogenics and advanced nuclear technology is being looked into as well, by a newly formed organization, with representatives from each of the SATU countries. SATU countries are also putting out a line of new weapons, based off the new line that Brazil began designing a year or so ago, and will use standardized ammunition (Similar to NATO). USAN has been absorbed into SATU, as it encompassed all of our ideas, and SATU was the next step. Sere: A suggestion, make the max speed about 10% of light. That's the fastest feasible speed anyway. That means getting to Alpha Centauri would take 40+ years. Also, make large scale terraforming impossible. That means we're basically limited to Earth, and small bases on the moon and mars, and some random moons.
  15. Whoops, Dusty, I misread the amount on the wikipedia page. I'll accept your offer. Also, Petroleo Brasileiro has been fully bought out by the government (it was formerly only 50.01% owned by the government). A large chunk of the oil they produce will be put into reserve. And penguin, I think it's 1% now.
  16. Dusty, I'll sell you half of that, so 18m a year. The rest will hopefully be kept within Latin America.
  17. What year's it now? And will the 2016/14/12 olympics happen or matter?
  18. That's a stupid argument for the Suez Canal thing, do you know how much is carried on those boats? And yeah, 35% of your nation starves, and people revolt, and you're out.
  19. Also, funnily enough the Anarchistic parts of somalia are better off than the corrupt parts.
  20. Why not, I guess. Oh, and South America (as well as Panama) has banded together in an economic and defensive alliance. It's dedicated to improving the lives of our people, and protecting them. I don't control the countries, but it basically means that if any of them are attacked, we will all help, and we will possibly put into place a new currency that will be accepted in all our states. Also, this means that no one can take them over diplomatically, pretty much.
  21. I'm changing that number to 30%, since I looked and at the current economic growth rate it would have been higher than 20% anyways. And our population growth rate is only like 1%, so it cancels out. And what's the free trade association?
  22. Retech, I think it's essentially the same. Since if 10 people are getting a total of 100 dollars, and that increases 20%, to 120, then logically the average amount of money goes up to 12 per person. I could be wrong though.
  23. The Brazilian line of fuel cell cars is complete, and are fairly affordable. A program similar to the real world US's program "Cash for Clunkers" has started, and the older cars we get will be recycled into either new H-Cars, or into metal for construction. Draining of Favelas has had some success, and smaller rural towns are becoming more populated and successful. Tourism is also booming, since crime in major cities has gone down dramatically. Rio is being prepared for the 2016 Olympics, expected to bring a huge amount of money into the country, and show our worth as a prospective first world nation. GDP/Capita has gone up over 20% in the past four (I think) years. The new Brazilian car company "Hydraus" is opening dealerships across the Americas, and the small amount we tax that company is going into construction of better housing. Also, we are working on designing a new line of guns, and tanks/small armored vehicles.
  24. Brazil continues doing the logical improvements I said before.
  25. Since there were no sessions while I was gone, I just finish the two towers that I would have finished during play times I think. So Vera finishes two towers, each that took a day. How much xp?
