Eh to be honest that was pretty realistic. Look at World War II.
-
Also, if we're playing in this stupid way again, I start diplomatic relations with all of South America, as well as Panama, as to forming a South American Republic that will allow us to move forward as a united world superpower. Each country will be individual still, but like a more tight EU.

Ok, Brazil is now officially in. I'll start like I did last time. Firstly, taxes are immediately and hugely raised on all foreign logging/beef/whatever bad-for-brazil foreign companies operating here. This will at first give us a large monetary bonus, which will allow us to continue our projects. In a few years, I expect the companies will pull out. Also, until then, the amount of land they can cut down is restricted dramatically. Anyways, once they pull out of the country, much of the land they once used will be turned into land for solar farms, funded in part by the huge influx of money from the raised taxes. This will help us become more independent of fossil fuels. We will also put money into researching hydrogen fuel cells, for more sustainable cars. We will also be implementing massive tourism campaigns, and using the money from that to clean up cities. We plan to start building projects, and start seeding new cities to help drain favelas. Drugs will be legalized, however they are now regulated like alcohol and tobacco. Programs for helping addicts recover will also be put into place. This will get rid of much of the drug crime in our country, as with greater supply, and no need for smuggling, kingpins and drug lords will be forced out of business. To whomever is controlling China, could I get the schematics for T99 tanks? I'll pay if you want. We also start modernizing our air force, since most of the planes are rather old. Same for our navy, and we are working on building a second aircraft carrier, and starting a nuclear submarine program. Project CAD begins. Also, the Vietnamese technically have the largest army in the world. Even with your superior tech, there is no way they'll surrender, and they will fight to the last.
-
And because they weren't just massacring everyone, they had a smaller number of people to fight. Think of it this way, if there was an army coming at you that was sparing civilians, there would be a much smaller chance of you fighting them than an army coming at you that was killing everyone they saw. So, long story short, you're going up against a hundred million more people using your strategy. Good work. Also, your navy isn't that great, you have a few dozen destroyers/frigates and some subs. The point is, you're taking a demilitarized (essentially) nation, and then attacking countries with larger armies than you, and larger populations, and expecting to win. EDIT: Also, I can't find anything about military training in Japan since '89
-
Ok fine, let's say your army was ready for war. How do you expect to conquer nations with larger populations and armies? Look at Vietnam, the US invaded with an infinitely superior army, technologically, yet the US lost (arguably).

I don't see why you're bringing up my country, I'm fully aware of it's issues, far more than you I'm sure given that I'm from there. Japan's military is roughly half the size of indonesias, and it's pretty underdeveloped. Malaysias army is also decent. The United States would pull all support from you, as you broke the treaty, and your entire economy would collapse. Brazil's issues have nothing to do with Japan. If I were invading nearby countries then they would be relevant, but it's completely unrelated in this argument. And Mather, you just took five countries. Pick one.
-
Yeah we are being that literal. Once I make my first official post I'll deal with that. And guerillas? Not really. Don't know where you got that from. As I said, read the first few pages of the original Hegemony thread, that's what this should be like. Yeah, brazil has issues. That's why you don't see me invading every country in site, even though I'm already better equipped to do so than Japan. And no, they couldn't mobilise quickly. The majority of those fit for military service are salarymen, with no experience in combat, or any physical exertion basically. Plus, there are almost no guns available for you. Indonesia would crush you if they wanted to, as would malaysia.
-
Japan has no military, sorry. That was part of the treaty they signed after the US nuked them, iirc. They have a small token military, but that's it. They have a few hundred thousand self defense soldiers, which are basically glorified cops.

1: China is capitalist, atleast in general. 2: Those other countries are just as communist as China, if not more in general.

[cabbage], I was halfway through writing a first post for a new version of this. I think there should be some rule changes overall: Firstly, no FTL, or Teleporting, or anything like that. And we stick with that. That means, more interesting game, because with FTL everyone has infinite resources and locations to build. Secondly, a rule should be no diplomatically taking over countries. That ends up being stupid. Now finally, look at the first posts of the original hegemony, everyone who wasn't around then (see: everyone but me and RPG). No just invading countries, talk about what you're going to change with you country, and so on. Take some time to familiarize yourselves with your country, wikipedia it's army, navy, culture, resources, and so on. No just saying I invade souteast asia, that's stupid. There are a good dozen or so possible countries there, so which ones are you invading? What with? What's your strategy? What's your justification for going to war and increasing poverty in an already impoverished nation? All this being said, I take Brazil.

Ok, I'm gonna be out for the next few days, so Vera will be building 3 more towers, to form a square of towers, and then 40 bows. This should take til like friday night.
-
Let's stop talking about this now, before our brains explode.
-
Nope, we won't. If anyone knows the formula for calculating pi (not just the simple equation, one where you put a shape within a circle, and depending on how many sides it has, your measure of pi is more accurate). Basically, since a circle has infinite sides, when then calculating pi they just plug in bigger numbers for the shape inside the circle. I'm bad at explaining, but since a circle has infinite sides, you can never get an exact measure. And mather, there are no perfect circles.

Well, ross, look how the game ended up. Brazil became one of the most powerful countries, malaysia controls a lot of earth now, the US doesn't really exist, Germany controls everything not in the Americas, or malaysian and so on. Sure, the US might have an advantage for a while, but it'll all work out.
-
Alright. Well, that gives me an idea. I build the tower instead of the bows (or start) but leave room at the top for a massive clock.
-
Alright. What would be a way to train/start engineering?
-
Ah ok. Also, would clockwork and engineering be sort of covered by crafting? Or atleast for a start?
-
I thought crafting and carpentry were basically the same, since building houses has given me crafting. I guess I'll do the bows then, if it'll get me the same crafting experience.
-
Hmm, which would get me more crafting xp, the bows or tower?
-
Ah ok. On second thought: Vera starts crafting bows (without string obviously). She plans to make 20, how long will this take?
-
So what's my crafting now? 4.1?
-
Well I'm still busy in real life, so I'll work on it till I get back, at least. How much xp do I get for finishing the town center?
-
Vera finishs building the town center. She then works on building a very large tower in the center of town. How long'll this take?
-
I have to go for a bit, so I start on that.
-
"I haven't built the one I'm going to be staying in yet. I'm going to work on it while you rest. The one I sleep in now though is this one" Vera points to the first house she built So how long will it take to build the big town center/house.
