Most people don't like lens flares. They are overused and cheap looking. To get stars to look more realistic, try adjusting the Brightness/Contrast and a bit of colorization

Thats a pretty good idea, I havn't seen that before. As for the design, Im not really keen on it, I don't really care for the squares

Experiment? Umm, something simple may be to have white text with a 1px black stroke. That would look better than that green

That color of green and red? I don't think go very well. And also the text has no stroke or anything, so it is quite plain

The border color doesn't fit in, and neither does the text

I would suggest just play around to get the feel of PS, and also use the help of tutorials. Search google for PS tutorials, or go to a site like good-tutorials.com
