Fire giants have always been crowded and I'm guessing they still are. They do have decent drops though. But I would suggest doing Dust Devils. They drop crimson charms often, and there's a chance of getting a dragon chain. I got one on my pure, when I went for 99 range. 65 Slayer on a pure isn't even hard.

There are much easier ways of gaining EP, with little risk.
