RuneScape Information

  1. To whom? To his mouse, computer and monitor. He wants them to know he dont play no games. Especially squeal of fortune
  2. Many reports are considering the possibility of a new anti-macro tool recently implemented in game affecting game play and specifically, FPS.
  3. These are some great and well thought out ideas. Good job OP. Edit:The bold underlining did not disturb my reading, it also highlighted key points of the suggestions. Edit2: I was re-reading and thought of something whilst perusing your section about familiar death animations For instance, when a lava titan dies, it could temporarily scorch the earth around it. Or when your unicorn finally bites the dust a small ring of flowers/plants (non-useful, of course) could form temporarily Minotaurs die- which every type it is there could be mineral dust...for instance Mithril dust for a mithril minotaur, or rune dust for a rune minotaur Edit3: As far as your ideas on valuable and invaluable items, I'd say that would be hard to implement. Since loot tables are on an RNG, it could be difficult and possibly detrimental to game play to speed the RNG past the point of a death animation.
  4. I would be fine with this. As long as it was consistent you know? Although I'd be afraid that instead of it being a perk (Ie, I have 96 smithing so I get better armor) it would be a requirement like overloads are. About the GE, I know some people liked merchanting but I always found trading to be a hassle and I remember spending more time trying to sell my goods than I did actually getting them. Eh, I can understand that. To me, there was some inescapable excitement about being in an area like world 2 fally. A place that was entirely organized by people, that had an unspoken code of ethics (that we all know was regularly broken, but on the whole was followed.) A good joking rule of thumb I used when giving advice to new players in RS was "If you can't find it in world 2/1 Fally park, you do not need it." Maybe I'm looking back with rose colored glasses on but I honestly cannot remember a time when I didn't have fun in Fally. The place had a certain air of excitement constant change yet it maintained a steady stream of goods with players valuing their own goods , and I can't help but feel that regardless of whether or not the GE left, it could not be replaced. Players today are so dependent on getting their goods cheaply and quickly that another mass exodus would happen with the player base. Needless to say that the "updates" which removed free trade and the wild maimed the social trading aspect of RS...and it seems pretty permanent. As far as temporary restrictions on trade with new accounts, as another person above me mentioned; why do you need more than 24k or however much it is as a new player? Jeesh man, I remember running iron from the mines in alkahard all the way to the bank for like, 3 days just to save up for my mithril scimmy. If I can do it, these nubs can too.
  5. And shall remain so until the end of days. I too, could not believe the ammount of "Doubling gold" and "trimming armor, free, need xp" going on around the GE Maybe it should be that way? What's the point of getting a production skill like smiting up to 99 with the exception of a skill cape? I can understand the point of maxing prayer, or consitution or fishing/gathering skills in general, but outside of that it's relatively pointless and as such has no real incentive for me to actually earn them. fixed.
  6. Is there a chance your ISP is throttling you?
  7. Unless you're like me, and got one for free via a family member. kekekek. In all reality, I've owned my Ipad for over a year now. I listen to Pandora on it, watch Netflix and surf the inter-webs. I have yet to update my OS on it. It's a $500 toy that is not really capable of aiding the average person in their daily lives and tasks, nice to have, though.
  8. I saw a couple people mentioning that it's rare for a consumer device to have a QOS option in regards to transmission priority. Netgear has a good (cisco too) for including such services. I have an extremely basic netgear router, I'm talking $45 basic; it does in fact have these options. in short, google is your friend.
  9. I'm not super knowedgeable on IP addresses, but I thought each computer had it's own ID? I thought most, if not all, replicated technology has it's own ID. Ban computer access if possible..? You could take it a step further and do that. And if they could pinpoint RL addresses, they could attempt to subpoena (hoping that's correct) a lot of people, fight them legally..Impractial probably though :\. I just hate botters, rwters, etc. Every computer does have a unique MAC address, but if I understand it correctly, you cannot determine someone's MAC address through the internet.. you can only get their IP address, which is determined by the ISP. If people are using the same network they will all have the same IP address. You can also mask your IP address by using a proxy. So if you are IP banned you can just use a proxy and get around the ban. Furthermore, my understanding is that the use of bots is not technically illegal - only the creation of bots. That's why Jagex goes after the creators of these botting programs rather than the users (again, could be mistaken here, but that's what I read somewhere at some point...). And if you consider how many thousands and thousands of people bot, they're not going to take legal action against every single one of them. It's unrealistic and not worth their time. They'll go after the source - the makers and suppliers of the bots. Each packet sent has the Mac address of the original source in it. Ip bans are not only IP bans they go together with a lot of other information gathered, Username and mac are considerable among them. A big problem is proxies, you can ban them but you would ban all of the people on it, so first they should not allow proxies (which not many people use) Then make it so proxies cannot connect to the game. And Jagex would have to set up a bunch of guidelines for themselves for when to hand out an ip ban. I guess with IPv6 it would be easier because every computer in a subnet can then be blocked separately instead of blocking the entire building. It will cost a lot to get someone with knowledge on how to do this all, but it will be effective. A lot is possible, even when you think it is not. Just to comment. Proxies also use dynamic IP's provided from their ISP's. This process would be doubly useless for some better proxy networks (which I will not list to protect members of tip.it) whom use a consistently shifting IP thanks to an internal DHCP that re-assigns all the users on its networks every 2-3 hours, just as a normal IP release would work. To OP, when a user connects to his internet, his computer has communicated with his internet service provider for a temporary IP address. This is called a dynamic IP address. Dynamic IP addresses expire anywhere from a single to three days. After they expire, they're reassigned to a new user in his local domain which could be as small as building, to half of a county in California. As far as MAC address go with identifying people that play games like Runescape, yes, with java (which is pretty well sand boxed) it's hard to identify the MAC address of a computer legitimately and reliably unless java had a certain degree of user administrative rights. You may have to accept their security ticket which drops a cookie of basic information, but regardless, you can easily spoof a fake or duplicate MAC address into your TCP/IP transmissions. As the person above me mentioned, it is possible to block one person using IPV6 (a more current, updated and intricate method of identifying computers. Plus we're out of IPV4 addresses to give to computers), and as he correctly identified; the cost measures of doing this would be high. I think regardless of what jagex does, re-configuring its network setup as well as banning IP addresses or even going so far to ban mac addresses- it would be better off continuing this cat and mouse game of making new busters for the new bots that come out every so often versus employing several full time network engineers whom expect many thousands of dollars a month for their services...which in this case would be hard to justify quite frankly.
  10. EDIT: Thought OP had forgot to mention the use of black salamanders at barrows. Considering running barrows anymore is not even half as profitable before the end of free trade, and even less so after free trade was re-introduced (merchanting clans) being cost and time effective is the name of the game. I also notice you didn't list baskets of strawberries. It sounds silly, but 25 hp from a basket of strawberries for non-emergency healing > Sharks (which you should still carry, for emergency healing ofc) It's a real shame that barrows equipment is in the shape it is. It use to be not only an extremely fun style of game play, but profitable as well. Ah the good ol` days. Sitting on world 2 Falador parks bridge pawning off my newly attained goods... Edit note: After running what is more than likely, in the mid-upper thousands of barrows runs between 2006-2010, I can testify to the use of black salamanders. When they came out, they were a god send after the ammo had stabilized on the market. Having a decent level of ranged, magic and strength can be taken full advantage of with them.
  11. I've been playing since late 2005. I remember literally all of these updates, and the resulting feedback. I really do wish Jagex would remove the grand exchange...and possibly allow world 2 Fallador to resume operation. The GE is such a lazy option, it removed an integral social aspect of the game from what is, without a doubt, a socially centered game (because let's face it, we're not hanging out here for the graphics.)
  12. Happy birthday :D
