1.0 Introduction and Content~

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is Nic O and I play with my Runescape account name N_odie. I have been playing for about 3 years off and on. Through-out the years I have seen a good number of people in game and here on Tip.It that have been scammed through many different methods. I decided to make a guide to help you, the fellow Tip.Iter to not make the mistakes that man people have made before. This is my first guide so I will make a few mistakes put feel free to PM me and I will fix the problem ASAP!!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2.0 Sections~

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2.1 In game scams

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There are many types of different scams that people do. These vary from the old "look Jagex blocks you from saying your password, see *********." thus hoping that someone will say there password. :evil: This is not true. This is from the official Runescape site...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The reason we do not block player's passwords is that by doing this he or she could actually give away a player's password. For example, if your password was 'sandwiches' and you wanted to say it in-game in a sentence, then it would appear blocked and people might be able to work out which word you were trying to say, and thus gain your password.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Once again Jagex has our back in protecting our accounts :D

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There are also many people in game that try to convince you that they are part of the Jagex staff and if you give them your pass word they will make you a member of the record. I personally think that this one is hilarious. They for one don't even have a crown next to there name. Second Jagex will NEVER ask you for a password. IF there is a mod that is dumb enough to do this. Report them!!! Just because there a mod doesn't mean that they get to do extra special things for other players!!! :-s There are other ones out there but I donÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t want to post them on this guide to the fact that It may give someone an idea that is out of the ordinary.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mainly, don't tell anyone your password and make sure your on the official Runescape site when you enter your account name and password. I'll talk more about that in a sec.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I was told to make sure that everyone knew to put a pin on your account. While many may think this to be common knowlage, one may be supprised how many people don't have a pin. Now, why would someone want a pin. A pin makes it so that if, by some genious method(they shouldn't be able to after applying the steps form this guide), gets into your account. It prevents them from stealing anything of value.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now, one may think "a pin may be annoying to have to enter in consantly!"

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The extra securaty definatly out ways the 6 seconds it takes to enter your pin. YOU ONLY HAVE TO DO IT ONCE PER LOG IN!!! I have talked to countless (mainly f2p) that thought that you had to enter your pin every time. If you follow the advise to log off before leaving your computer you should never have to worry about someone getting into your account!!! So, please take the time to add a pin . That pin may one day save all your valuables!!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To make a pin make it a number that only you would know. This means that your home phone number is not the best idea. Other numbers that can be personnal identified to you may not be the best either. Just pick a number that you can remember and stick with it. You may want to change it periodically to amke sure no one gets in. ;P

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2.2 Out of game (oog) scams

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Like I said above Make sure your entering your password on the official Runescape site. Example:

 

 

 

This is the real Runescape site!!!!!!!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This one is fake and is trying to get your password!!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

When you click on the link you will get a site that looks like this:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Notice how real it looks!!!! This is a major danger that can contribute to you losing your account!!! Don't fall for this scam!!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Another way that you can spot this stuff is by entering a totally fake user name and password. Example:

 

 

 

 

 

 

When you get pass that point they will ask for all your personal information!!!! Beware!!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

When you make an RS account they never even asked for your EMAIL!!! is is another way to realize that this is a scam!!!!! :twisted:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Another way hackers try to get your account name is by the fake sites that they make!!! They say "quitting Rs! enter your user name and password with a pin and ill give you some free items (usually raresÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ ect.)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is a scam!!!! :-$

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Another scam is when someone says in-game, ( after they gain your trust, of course ) hey there's this new runescape forum i found, and there's a guy selling full rune g for only 450k!!! Here's the site (blah blah blah). You log off and try the site. You are in such a big rush to get full rune g for only 450k that you type in your real user-name and password. They get hacked.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Yes that is a good point! Make sure that at least your password is different on other sites besisdes rs. I use a special password just for RS.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To choose a password follow these steps strait from the offical RS site.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A good password is one that is not easy to guess or work out, is easy for you to remember, is at least eight letters long and contains a mix of letters and numbers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DO NOT pick any word or number which has a connection to you, so don't pick your favourite animal or your house number.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DO NOT just use a number at the end of a word, such as HVYDG8076

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DO NOT use common number and letter substitutions e.g. 4 as the word 'for', 1 as 'L' or 'I', 5 as 'S'

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DO NOT use repeating characters 'bbbbbbbbbb' or series of characters such as 'kbkbkbkbkbkb'.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DO NOT use your name, account name or name of an item either forwards, backwards or divided up.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DO NOT use a series of characters off any keyboard such as 'qwerty', 'lkjhgf' or 'qazwsxedc', as these are very common and hijackers will look for these.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The only limitations placed on you by RuneScape are:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You can only have passwords up to 20 characters long.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You cannot use symbols such as '!' and '%'.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Passwords are not case sensitive, so 'HVYDG' is the same as 'hvydg' or 'HvYdG'.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

One way to make a password is to think up a collection of random alphabetical characters which do not exist as a word in any language. Then you should come up with a couple of random numbers which you can add to the word throughout. For example:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Word: GJWXREJUVGF

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Number 1: 102

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Number 2: 13

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Combine them = G102JW13REJUVGF

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This would be a very good password if it was not on this webpage. DO NOT use this password as any hijacker will be able to find this password and try it to open your account. Make your own up instead.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It is always worth having a notebook in which you can write down a copy of your password each time you change it so you can make sure you won't repeat any, and in case your password is hard to learn at first. You should of course keep this in a very safe place, like giving it to your parents or guardian for safekeeping.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As long as your password stays safe then there is no need to change your password often, as this just means you are more likely to reuse a password or forget the new one, but it is advisable to change it every 6 months or so.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It is especially important that if your account has been hijacked that you DO NOT use a password that you've used before on your account.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Another way people get stuff on your computers is through a key logger. I'm not going to describe how they make one and put it on your computer because that would be dumb! But i will describe how to keep it off. :-s

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1. the first thing is to try to stay on legitimate sites!!! (RS, Tip.It, Yahoo, Google ect.)

 

 

 

2. have a Spybot on your computer and run it periodically. :thumbsup:

 

 

 

3. Don't down load every pop up that may come up!!! IF you don't know what it is and you don't think you do it make be a disguised Key logger :ohnoes:

I got a fake e-mail from "Jagex staff" and at the very bottom it said:

 

 

 

Jagex staff will NEVER ask you for your password

 

Jagex staff will NEVER send you an e-mail

 

Never enter your password at any site except Runescape.com

i liked the guide, i dont really find a lenive8283lnvie88 passowrd neccesary though, like one of my passwords from long time ago was just kitanya, it means nothing, no1 could ever guess it, and its much easier to remember than number/letter jumble combos
