~The new poll: why is melee so popular?~

Featured Replies

The balance may also be swayed by those moving up from F2P.

Other than the enormous smithing level requirement, the F2P melee could be 100% self sufficient, though in practice a set of armour and weapon can be easily bought, and lasts a long time with care.

The F2P ranger has some decent extra kit to upgrade to, the same level as the warriors rune armour, and the armour is cheaper, as is the weapon. The drawback, is buying arrows.

The F2P Mage can be self sufficient in runes, for spells up to fire strike, but then it gets expensive. There is also no upgrade kit.

Starting in F2P, invariably encourages development as a melee, unless intending to operate entirely from safespots. After all, why waste ammunition when you are being hit, when you have a weapon that needs no supplies.

Moving to higher levels, the highest combat levels are only possible in melee.

Prayer was another barrier, though one that has now been rectified with the mage and range prayers.

Anyway, if they want to alter the balance of players moving up from F2P, then give F2P fletching and arrowhead smithing up to iron, and extend F2P runecrafting up to chaos.

I h8 melee

-yes melee does more damage per second but thats if they reach you, ancients seems to do the trick in pvp nbut generally in pvm then meleers get it so easy using barely any resources and risking almost nothing. D hide should give melee negative attack bonus cos god they splash my ancients.

-melee is often overestimated, entangle/ freeze ur enemy then whip out ann echanted dragonstone bolt crossbow for a nasty 40-70 KO surprise (if ur lucky).

-Also if you can hnit constant 20's or over from afar with things like ancients or crystal bow u can force a meleer to use all their food so no KO needed. Don't make my mistake and try to KO with super atta and super stre and ssa, if ur consistentyl nhitting like 30 no thneir full rune with ancients just drain them of food. Freeze if they begin to approach btu they are normally to busy eating. Count for 20 seconds (barrage) and make sunre u start with an ice spell on about the 19 second mark. Wield dds so that if they take of their metal armour you may then KO them.

Yeah...Some people just go out of their way to ruin other peoples fun.
Sounds like Jagex to me...

Well think about it...RS just voted that Melee is their favorite, so Jagex is going to make it better and better...

Or they'll do the opposite, buffing Magic and Range so they become more popular.

Personally I love Ranged, sure it's expensive, but if you keep on slaying enemies with decent drops you'll earn the cash in.

no they will not buff the other skills anymore other than maybe the currently slightly underpowered range. Melee will be downed to be equaln with the rest of combat. People will complain, people will rejoice. You can never please everyone even if you displease 58% of the community-they will gte over it as they have to think of other tactics than

and in the duel arena they think ur crazy if u want to skill duel with all options except pots and food on. They dont know the meaning of skill (some of them anyway)

melee is the best because it doesn't cost anything (other then the armor and weapons) as well as it is the strongest. Thats why its best for training slayer and pking (well magic/melee for pking).

well say you get a whip that 1.6m investment lasts forever sand you cans till sell later and make soem money back where with runes those are lost forevers so a decent trip anywhere can use 300k while maging and with range if you use crystal bow you use a lot fo money and you lose arrows so you always are needed more

I honestly can't believe you think most people prefer melee because of pking and the DDS. I agree with the poll, i like it because it takes no consumables, you get a good weapon and some nice armor and, (providing you be careful,) you never have to buy another.

So, people are seriously just too cheap to buy arrows? Thats pretty awful :-k

I have 94 range 95 magic and I can honestly say that both have made me more money than melee ever has.

Need assistance in any of these skills? PM me in game, my private chat is always ON

It's a all around combat method.

Simple as that.

i think maybe because it makes people feel more powerful then others, and brings a hierachy to the game... also how cheap it is, aside from arm,our weps and assortment runes/arrows/pots etc... its cheaps and efficient.

Even on my death bed, I'll bare-hand that bloody shark.

personally, I prefer mage just because I like the skill.I've always loved magic. But I did vote for "No consumable usage"(or what ever) because it is true.Mele just buy a dds and your set for life!

Dude, you're an idiot #-o
Dude, your feeble attempt at an insult is hilarious.

magic uses runes like crazy, seriously when is the last time any1 went out of their way to regularly mage random things with chaos runes other then iron dragons? not many things, i used to train my magic with mind runes i got from chaos druids and i got from 1-79 magic off mind runes alone(well not entirely...) but theirs really not a good way to retain $ from maging monsters i found maging blue dragons in taverly @ 70 agility with teles and chaos gaunts to be the most cost effective thing other then something like purely luck such as barrows.

range? let me say, theirs a reason my ranged is lvl 91, and it will stay that way. you think 91 ranged is high? its not i hit 23s with a crystal bow and 19s with rune arrows(thats potted to i think) this skill is so under powered but since its effectively cheap and easy to train it should be. but id love to have 99 ranged.

melee is just easy as hell to train and cheap, darkdude said it all on like page 1. listen to him, no really theirs a reason melee is the most favored method, and theirs so many reasons melee is the best, fastest, cheapest, easiest and the ego boosting of skills.

id like to see any1 with 100 combat not act like they are hot [cabbage]. exactly, 4 people dont. every1 else does.

and the DDS spec, well yea that thing is good but so unpredictable. ive been trying to reproduce my best DDagger spec @ castle wars for days, and it has not happened. 34/34 spec on some1 using full torags, and im not even trying it on most people with armor anywhere near that good. my best i hit on a 119 in dhide was 24/3 out of more then 10 spec's and i was super potted and praying. and no he didnt have pray melee on.

the reason it is most popular is there is no preparation involved, you can melee with 0 cash and 0 items

but buying the weapons itself has a cost. for example the mage short only costs 5k, the whip costs above 1.6m so that can probably be the reason why.

despite the master wand in mage arena.

yes but you buy the weapon then when finished you sell it on, thats it you lose 0 maybe some food money but not as much as range and nowhere near as much as mage

who buys a whip then sells it? i paid 6mil for mine and im pretty sure its the same 1, i think i might have traded whips with a friend, his for mine. but other then that it might be the same 1 i paid 6mil for.

its too bad they nerfed the arrow accumulator when they updated it, i made alot of arrows off that thing in like a week of PC i hade 2.5k steel arrows i never had.
