March 16, 200719 yr The official RS poll right now asks us: Why do you feel melee is the most popular combat choice? I honestly cannot believe that the majority of people are saying they like melee because it doesn't use up "consumeables". I wish Jagex would've just asked me this question; theres no reason to poll everybody. The reason it is the most popular is because of one thing: the dragon dagger special attack. Most people who are working hard on melee training these days are people who intend to PK. If you want a KO while PKing, all you need is high strength and a DDS. The MSB (magic shortbow) only gets ONE special that delivers two quick hits, but the DDS gets 4 specials. Not 2, not 3, but 4 special attacks that double hit. Add on the fact that melee can harder than a MSB and you've got yourself the best pking weapon in the game. So I ask this: why is the most popular response the fact that melee doesn't use disposable resources? How do YOU feel about the poll? Do you PK? And most importantly, do you think that the poll results show us the majority type of player that commonly votes in polls? In other words, are the voters in these polls mainly the players who cannot afford the resources for Magic or Ranged? Thanks for reading. Discuss. Need assistance in any of these skills? March 16, 200719 yr the reason it is most popular is there is no preparation involved, you can melee with 0 cash and 0 items Back by popular demand! And I guess I just wanted to tell you, as the light starts to fade, that you aree the reason, that I am not afraid, and I guess I just wanted to mention, as the heavens will fall, that we will be together soon if we will be anything at all.
March 16, 200719 yr the reason it is most popular is there is no preparation involved, you can melee with 0 cash and 0 items but buying the weapons itself has a cost. for example the mage short only costs 5k, the whip costs above 1.6m so that can probably be the reason why. despite the master wand in mage arena.
March 16, 200719 yr Author If that were true, wouldn't the most common answer be "It is easier to begin playing RuneScape for the first time as a meleer."? While this IS the third most voted answer, at 8% of the votes, I cannot understand why the "consumable goods" answer is most voted. Need assistance in any of these skills? March 16, 200719 yr Mellee pretty much MEANS combat. It's undoubltedly THE MOST favored out of the three, it's the simplest of the three, it's the fastest to train out of the three. 'Pure' rangers and mages hardly stay like that without getting mellee. And yes, you're right, DDS special attack has a lot to do with it. All morons hate it when you call them a moron.-Holden Caulfield, The Catcher in the Rye
March 16, 200719 yr Maybe another reason is melee stands to have the highest possible hit in the game? I personally would enjoy seeing my self hit 100. Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.
March 16, 200719 yr Simply because melee can do a whole lot of damage without having to use expensive things. I was 94 range at around 95 combat, and even with my 75-80 melee stats i basicly owned my range to train slayer. Also there is way more "usefull" equipment for melee. It's just overpowered and that's why everyone uses it. Click here for my guide on how to solo the D Kings
March 16, 200719 yr when you first started the game i bet no one of you came off tut island and the first thing you did what buy 1k bronze arrows to train ranged, or mind runes before you punched or kicked a goblin. Plus i dont get why theres so many complaints about this game and you conutune to go back and countune playing the game
March 16, 200719 yr Because melee is fun. :D Plain and simple, people like high damage + Melee has the highest damage in the game = lots of warriors.

Plus i dont get why theres so many complaints about this game and you conutune to go back and countune playing the game I agree with you on the point you made about tutorial island. The reason we all complain about this game and continue to play it is because we have played it for a while and are displeased in the direction the game is being pushed.
March 16, 200719 yr i think it realy popular becuase you can easy go and do it with little cash involded even 0. I also think though that skilling is getting quite popular but not as much as melle truly i hate traing cb tbh
March 17, 200719 yr I can understand the 'consumables' answer being the most voted. For a beginner to understand they need runes for EVERY cast and arrows for every shot they take may be quite something but then you've got to either make these or buy them. And then there's the thought of how to make money to buy them or how to get the raw materials for making them. Then a quest to begin making runes or membership to make your own arrows. However, saying that it could also apply to 'it takes less effort to get effective melee equipment'. 99: Agility 28/12/14|Thieving 20/03/15
March 17, 200719 yr It's a way to show off yourself beyond anything else. Not many people will look up every kid's stats that they see, but if your a high level, (melee) you won't have to. Your level shows off your character. Supposedly, except pures and skillers.
March 17, 200719 yr Omg, they are just noobs. Plain and simple. (Sarcasm) I personally have no idea why they say melee is the cheapest. You use the most food, or if you have guthan you have to repair. I've gotten 3.9m mage xp for free, all from barrows. I'm sure there are even cheaper ways of ranging, (bronze arrows at PC perhaps?) Also, I do not pk, some people might say I don't have the gutsto risk my items, this is true, but overall, I hate wjhat it does to the game. If I kill (Or PK you could say) someone, I'd feel guilty that I made that person lose valuable items. But, if I die, I'd be mad that I lost valuable items. Just my two cents, ~Saruman I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. March 17, 200719 yr its the easiest to train and people think cause they have high melees they are gods... RSN: drgnslyer15 15 skills 90+ - 10 skills 99 - 200m+ total exp
March 17, 200719 yr its the easiest to train and people think cause they have high melees they are gods... Exactly. I'm sure someone who just started would want 99 Strength or Attack over 99 Magic
March 17, 200719 yr its the easiest to train and people think cause they have high melees they are gods... Exactly. I'm sure someone who just started would want 99 Strength or Attack over 99 Magic I agree. Although I would still choose 99 str over 99 mage.
March 17, 200719 yr its the easiest to train and people think cause they have high melees they are gods... Exactly. I'm sure someone who just started would want 99 Strength or Attack over 99 Magic If you asked any of my friends that they would immediately say 99 magic without a doubt and would "lmao" the crap out of me for even asking. 99 Mage + Ancients = Killer cw games (they all cw as if their lives depended on it, and its because its the most effective in castle wars (in my opinion)) Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.Oscar Wilde
March 17, 200719 yr Most efficent methods of killing. You do more damage/second with melee than any of the other 2 by a LONG way, that's why, it's simply the most powerful and easiest to train. No idea why Jagex is shocked by the responce to the original poll, Melee is overpowered compared to the other 2 combat styles, it's the easiest to train, the cheapest and the least expensive.
March 17, 200719 yr This just sounds like another range underpowered rant only with a different title -.- ....But just because it isn't confusing to train when starting. Back when most of us started, there wasn't the tutorial guides everywhere to give us arrows and runes when we were out. So it was just easier to get an iron scimitar and hit chickens  . YOU! March 17, 200719 yr Melee= Cheap, easy, powerful, and fun. It's just an all around fun thing to do. I hope Jagex's poll won't do any drastic changes to the combat system :ohnoes: ....
March 17, 200719 yr I think melee is the most popular choice of combat because it has the most skills involved ... attack strength and defence. The fact that it doesn't use "consumables" is also a big factor because well... you don't need to keep paying money to gain experiance in the skill. You can buy one wepon and it can last you your whole runescape life. Your dds theory doesn't really make scence to me. In F2p people can't use the dds and many don't even plan to, yet (although i don't have the numbers) i guarentee many many more people use melee more than anything else. Melee is what this game is about. There is so much more melee armour (armour that both protects against melee and doesn't give negative effects toward melee bonuses) players just have more choice on what they want to fight with. Mage and range aren't good at hand to hand combat which is the only way to kill many monsters. There aren't always "safespots" to kill everything. I also personally think it is much faster to train melee skills over both range and mage, making it a more logical choice to train... Anyway thats my point of view...
