I have made a clay bust of visual effects expert and Mythbuster extrordinaire Jamie Hyneman. But first, let me show you how I made it. If you are only interested in the result, go ahead and scroll to the bottom of the post, but you're missing a lot!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here is the basic head and shoulders shape I started with. At this stage it doesn't look anything like Jamie.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

With a nose and the dents where his eyes will go.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

His trademark walrus moustache has now been added.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

With ears and eyebrows. This is where we start getting serious.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here I am hollowing him out so he won't blow up in the kiln. This also makes it a lot easier to add his eyes. Note that his shirt has been put on by this stage.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

One eye has been added, and the other is in front of him. You can see through the empty left eye socket into his hollow head.

Now I just had to put the top of his head back on, and add his famous beret! This picture was taken after he'd been fired, so now he's solid and no more changes can be made. Notice that he's shrunk quite a bit.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

One part of him can't be made in clay: His glasses!

next time try to make the eyes a bit more closed, in your figure jamie looks quite shocked! :shock: (if that was your intention i apologise)

Do you use the method of hollowing out space for things like ears... nose eyes... or do you add clay to create throse things?? Whenver i sculpted i used the method of (i guess you could call it) addition to create anatomey on the sculpture... When you do this it prevents you from having space where it isn't really needed... such as having eyebrows like an inch above the eyes... :-w

Nice sculpture btw. I made a mask of Jamie in my art class, I got an A/B for that and I hope to get it back soon. But nice job.

Haha, I love it! It really turned out nice. Mythbusters is probably the greatest show on television next to 24. If I were you, I would definitely take a picture of it and send it in to Mythbusters. You might even get it on the show, who knows?! =D>
