I have a very nice, brand new (3 weeks old lol) Toshiba/Windows Vista Laptop. Anyways, I tried to watch the Pursuit of Happiness. It never loaded. I check my Meda Center, it told me to put a DVD in the Drive..

I checked my Computer Folder, my DVD/CD drive is gone!! I tried seeing if it was just this DVD, I tried 4 over DVD's and a CD. Nothing. Is it broken?A virus perhaps? (Damn those website!! She was just so hawt...uh...)

Please halp me, I'm a moron.

It's worked before right?

Perhaps try taking a look in side to see if the cables are set up nice, unplug/replug them and so forth. Never hurts as a first attempt (in fact, it happened to me where my dvd drive wasn't viewed because the IDE cable wasn't perfectly flush). Give er a try, atleast. You never know.

well i dont think its a virus, because you are running vista, and its a little too early for those. if mr putter's suggestion didnt work, try reinstalling the drivers, or find a new one.

It's a laptop. He didn't put it together, so it might void a warrenty to open it up. Contact the company you bought it from. They will help (after maybe five hours on the phone, but hey) nd might even replace it if it is only three weeks old.

my guess would be the cables connecting the drive to the motherboard are loose. I have personally never had a problem like this but that would be my best guess, as as far as I know unless there is some very clever virus writer drives just dont go missing.

Check and make sure it is working properly at:

control panel > system > hardware > Device manager

Check to see if it is identified in the BIOS

I would think this problem is caused by the registry or motherboard/chipset drivers witch would could try reinstalling the drivers and/or restoring the registry.

Umm...There's a big yellow sign under the DVD Drive. It has an exclamation mark in it. :? I checked..and got this..

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

go control pannel - system - hardware - device manager - DVD/CD ROM drives, if nothin is there, its not connected correctly, if its there with a yellow triangle, reinstall the DVD/CD drivers

If you the company you bought the laptop from is worth anything, they should have at the very least given you a recovery disc with all the proprietary device drivers on it. However, companies have been providing "recovery partitions" in lieu of disc because it is cheaper.

You should be able to load the drivers from the device manager. You may be able to find them on the interweb.

Windows has determined that your Driver is up to date.

Yeah, time to take it back to BestBuy. -.-

Lol, I never trust BestBuy. I'd get the parts and assemble my machines myself (Yes I'm a nerd :anxious: ) It's fun =] Lol.
