ad block plus

Featured Replies

anyone download this add-on for firefox?

i wnat to know if it is realli safe (like does it have spyware, keyloggers, etc)

It's completely safe. Although blocking ads is a bad thing to do. Most websites (including this one) make money to stay running mainly by ad revenue, by blocking the ads you are not helping the website.

i only use it when im playing runescape cause the adds make mie computer lag

ya its fine, and once you install it, it should give you an option to register with some company. if you dont do that, then you have to select every ad you want to block, and that would take a long time. all you have to do to click register, and thats it. ABP will block the ads on top of the screen with the RS window. i dont know about lag through the ads though, because i dont get it.

it is against Jagex's rules to block any ads on thier site, because it helps pay for it.

Sites lose their chance to make money out of me when they employ annoying or invasive adverts, or advertise things that come with spyware.

Rule 15 - Advert Blocking

Effective date: 16th January 2007

You must not deliberately block or hide the adverts which appear above the free version of our game.

If you have advert blocking software please prevent it from blocking adverts on our website. The adverts above the free game are what enable us to keep it free, after all!

I only use it on ads that are very irritating. Ones that use sound or have a lot of motion go on the list.

I don't have a specific program to block advertisements on sites in general. I do however block specific sites that display intrusive advertisements or spyware and "adult" ads. I do not block advertisements for the sake of it and only do it then the website in question abuses its position.

There are also some sites such as eBay and news websites such as CNN which make plenty of money without the aid of onsite advertising and thus they find themselves getting zero income from me.

I do however block some rogue advertising agencies fully on my home computer. Companies such as Bustnet are notorious for spreading malware and have been doing so for years. They pay the site owners well but as a result compromise the safety of the users and the internet as a whole with spyware using up huge chunks of bandwidth. These companies do not have the right to display advertising on my computer and are ultimatly not shown at all.
