Skills or cash and items?

Featured Replies

I've now been playing runescape for about 2 and a half years, I've had very good times but I always hated it when I had no cash, I trained my slayer up and I managed to become a wealthy player.

I've had my Phat for over a year now, it has more than doubled I'm starting to wonder, Is it actually worth it to have a hat worth 200m sitting around in my bank over 90% of the time I play? I'm not the kind of person that sits around in bank fletching or alching so, why do I have it? Is it just a matter of status? I think for some people it is - but then I see friends that could be just as wealthy as me but they enjoy skills more than anything else in rs.

I started to think about selling my Phat a long while ago, there hasn't been a massive change in prices latley, but oh man, I wouldnt like having 200m cash sitting around in my bank either, especially because I think it'd take alot of interest from the game for me.

So what do you think? Is it worth it to have a rare in my bank hanging around and doing nothing else - or should I sell it and have enough cash to do basicaly anything I wanted? Put yourself in my situation, I know there's enough people out there with phats, I see them every time I log on and I'm sure some must be active in these forums.

see, vita, i have exact different position.

If you sell it, then you're getting items, and can virtually get everything in the game. There's just not much else to do when you have all the items. Having owned a phat or 7, i still liked to make money, and some incentive too. When you have all the items, and oodles of cash, i think it takes fun out of the game.

I used to have a phat, I had the exact same thoughts as you. I sold it, then at first seemed like an amazing idea, but after that I always regreted it.

Well, it depends on if you need cash. If you have all the money you need, then there isn't any more of a reason to sell it than there is to keep it, but if you could buy some shiny new armor with it, go ahead and sell it and have fun with the game.

Look, if your mom still drops you off at school, you ain't gangsta, pull up your damn pants!

3 down, 7 to go

My stance for this changes frequently depending on what my goals of the moment are, but overall, I think skills are more of a priority for me. My philosophy is that you can lose items (I've lost 3 santas on 3 separate occasions), but skills don't go away.

All morons hate it when you call them a moron.

I think I would go ahead and sell it and spend the money on materials used to raise skills.

I take rares as a monetary investment whenever i am on break or something, or i will be entering a period where i will not need so much money stashed in bank. Otherwise, i won't bother to own rares

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

why don't you wear it instead of letting it sit in the bank?

Finally the secrets of goal achieving are revealed! (give my guide a read :^_^: )

I value skills over items. I've had several party hats in my time of playing Runescape, but sold all of them eventually. Having a party hat, or another 'cool' or 'rare' item, may have been fun for a while but the thrill always died down. After a while I would start thinking, "Okay, I'm hanging onto a paper hat. What's the point of this? To show it off?" It just seemed so stupid to me. The only thing that makes a party hat rare is that other players say so. So by my philosophy, since other players say it's rare, the only reason to keep one would be to show off to those other players.. something that I don't particularly enjoy.

But skills are valued and are, in my opinion, the main aspect of the game. Most of the items in the game only exist to aid you in raising skills. That leads me to believe that skills are actually more important. For me, getting level 99 in a skill - the maximum level - makes me feel much more accomplished than obtaining a certain item.

Well you could always say that skills will be there when you need money, but with the new skill cape trend - do you seriously think people enjoy getting those capes? I don't I used to enjoy fletching, back then when people did not just fletch for the sake of getting an easy 99, for me its not what you spend your money on its the way you enjoy spending it. I do not like the skill cape update but, that's another thing that shouldn't be discussed here.

I wouldn't know what to do with 200m cash and I do think that no one would, it is just far too much money to spend - and I do agree with Dalcyte - making money is part of the fun in the game, atleast for me it is, so overall I think I'll keep it :P
