Hitman247m
http://www.wsfa.com/Global/story.asp?S=6404646&nav=0RdE Houston, April 20, 2007 -- Building 44, The Communications and Tracking Development Building, at the Johnson Space Center has been evacuated because of a gunman in the building. A phone call came in at about 1:40 p.m. that a man had come into the building with a gun. Capt. Dwayne Ready of the Houston Police Department said late this afternoon that shots were fired. Two shots were reportedly fired. He is barracaded in a room. Ready says, "We believe he is armed with a handgun." They say they have tried to talk face to face with the suspect, but have not gotten a response. They do not know for sure whether or not there is a hostage. According to media reports, the man is a contract employee about 50 years of age. Ready would not confirm this. Earlier in the day Eileen Hawley from NASA told a local television station, "We got a report of an individual in one of our buildings with a gun. We do have security in the building." Hawley says the "situation is ongoing and we're continuing to make the situation safe." She says officials are "trying to ascertain the whereabouts of everyone who was in the building." She says the Houston Police Department has been called in. She did not have the "name or identification" of any individual and could not say if security inside the building had made contact with the possible gunman. "I have not gotten a report out of the building." Hawley said later in the afternoon an e-mail was sent out to employees. She said employees were released to go home if their vehicle was accessible. Captain Jack William of Houston Fire Department says "At this time, as far as I know there are no reports of injury." He says he has not talked to units on the scene but has been talking to his dispatcher. "I do not have anybody physically inside the danger area." A woman told a station her husband is in an adjacent building and "He said he had just come from building 44 about 30 minutes prior. " She said he told her people were telling him there were "four or five gunshots." Those reports have not been confirmed. An intermediate school on Johnson Space Center property but outside the secure area of the center was under lockdown simply as a precaution earlier in the day, the lockdown has been lifted. There are reportedly 900-1100 students at the Johnson Space Center Intermediate School.

Hitman247m
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/20/nasa.g ... index.html Gunman, hostage dead at NASA building, police say... HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) -- A gunman who took two hostages Friday at NASA's Johnson Space Center has apparently killed himself and one hostage, police said. Another hostage has been taken to the hospital, said Houston Police Capt. Dwayne Ready. The gunman forced the evacuation of the building and put the entire center on alert around 1:40 p.m. ET. Earlier a witness in Building 44 on the campus reported two shots fired, said Ready, who described the suspect as a white man with blond hair, about 5 feet 9 inches and 50 to 60 years old. He had a handgun, said Ready. Ready said he had barricaded himself in a room. The apparent suicide happened on the second floor of Building 44, he added. The call for help came in to the Houston Police at 1:40 p.m. (2:40 p.m. ET) but it's unclear who made that call. There is "extremely tight security" at Johnson Space Center, NASA spokesman James Hartfield said. A NASA spokesperson told CNN that all employees have been told to go home for the day. Space Center Intermediate School, less than a mile south of Building 44, was locked down, said Karen Permetti, spokeswoman for Clear Creek Independent School District. The lockdown was lifted at about 4 p.m. (5 p.m. ET). The school has about 1,200 students, according to the school district. As standard procedure, Mission Control's doors were locked, The Associated Press reported.

greenslime89
The frequency of these shootings is sickening. This shooting coming only days after the Virginia Tech shooting. If this doesn't tell America they need to outlaw guns, nothing will. I don't want to start a gun debate here so if you want to discuss an hypothetical gun ban post on Guns: will a ban reduce crime? It's another horrific crime, involving a man gunning down a colleague in an act of madness. Sometimes I'm ashamed to be part of the human race. Photos! Bubsa
And this isn't the kind of incident that would have just passed us by had the VT shooting never occurred. Well, we all know what I think, so I'll just add my shock and condolences to those who have lost fathers, brothers and friends. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. Be ashamed that you must share the earth with these people who shouldnt be classed as humans. Be annoyed that they are here living among us in civil society. Abyssalwhip
-sigh- This is one of many reasons I say guns cause more trouble than they stop (Excluding cops and army) Your name is "bet you fail", and you're starting a business with your mom? I'm not even going to touch that.....
ixfd64
Unfortunately, our world isn't perfect. If it were, then nobody would need guns (maybe except for shooting competitions). Ambassadar
This sounds like the VT guy finally gave this guy the nerve and example to do what he had been pondering for a long time. If this doesn't tell America they need to outlaw guns, nothing will. I don't want to start a gun debate here so if you want to discuss an hypothetical gun ban post on Guns: will a ban reduce crime? This was kind of a low statement to make. It would be the same as if I came in and said "If this doesn't tell America that everyone needs to start carrying a gun for protection, nothing will. I don't want to start a debate and if you disagree and want to respond to me you have to go to another thread." That would irritate you if I said that just as your comment was kind of irritating to people that don't agree with it. If you want to make comments like that just post it on the thread you linked to in the first place. It's another horrific crime, involving a man gunning down a colleague in an act of madness. Sometimes I'm ashamed to be part of the human race. Why would you be ashamed about something some person on the other side of the world did? You didn't do it. Why should you bear guilt? If you want to make comments like that just post it on the thread you linked to in the first place. Well, I thought it an appropriate statement considering the frequency of the two shootings in the last week. I didn't want to start a debate but I thought it best to put that statement here with my thoughts. I didn't want to discuss whether or not a gun ban would reduce crime, just that America should take these shootings on board and do something about it. It's another horrific crime, involving a man gunning down a colleague in an act of madness. Sometimes I'm ashamed to be part of the human race. Why would you be ashamed about something some person on the other side of the world did? You didn't do it. Why should you bear guilt? I like to think that we are all together as a giant community. And we must be the only species on Earth that kill each other for the sake of killing. Not for food, not for space, just to kill. I hate to think that I'm part of the same species as those murderers. I hate to be even remotely related to these people. But I am. We are all human, we should be able to live together peacefully. We say we are civilised, but at times like these I think the animal kingdom is more civilised than us. That's just how I feel. Photos!
