Revenga
Yea, I've found myself with quite alot of extra time on my hands in class, and i'm looking for a good book to read. I was looking for something like....the Warcraft books or something. I havn't read any of them but i've played World of Warcraft. Any simliar RPG setting type books like that? I was looking for maybe an Americanized-medevil type book that didn't talk much in Old Time, jsut because that get's bloody annoying after awhile ( Art though, thy, blah blah, all that old Englander slang. ) If you could find a book or something feel free to post a link, if I can't I guess I could just pick up some Warcraft trilogy books off Ebay. :XD: |Msg me me in-game | IrreIephant| ^ capital i
Satenza
The most recent series of fiction novels i read were Stephen Kings Darktower series. Pretty good. Keep you entertained for awhile. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.
Revenga
Well I was kind of hoping if you where going to waste your time posting about the book, you'd throw in a little extra details about it.. :-w |Msg me me in-game | IrreIephant| ^ capital i
Astralinre
The Worthing Saga by Orson Scott Card is one of the best stories I've read in a while. It's got a good mix of sci-fi and a more midieval townish setting, and unforgettable characters. "In so far as I am Man I am the chief of creatures. In so far as I am a man I am the chief of sinners." - G.K. Chesterton
Satenza
well, there are seven books... The first is called The Gunslinger which introduces us to the main character Roland and his tailing of "The man in black" through an eerie world. The book begins, "The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed." It tells the story of The Gunslinger, Roland of Gilead, and his quest to catch The Man in Black, which will ultimately lead him to the Dark Tower. Roland is a Gunslinger, his world's answer to the knight-errant, and he follows the trail of his fatal obsession. The main story takes place in a world that is recognizable as the American West but exists in an alternate time frame or parallel universe to ours; Roland exists in a place where "the world has moved on." This world has a few things in common with our own, however, including memories of the song "Hey Jude" and the child's rhyme that begins "Beans, beans, the musical fruit." Vestiges of forgotten or skewed versions of real-world technology also appear, such as a reference to a gas pump in a tunnel under a mountain that is worshipped as a god named "Amoco", and an abandoned way station with a water pump which is powered by an "atomic slug". It is at this way station that Roland first meets Jake Chambers, a child who died in the world that we know. Jake was pushed in front of a car, apparently by the Man in Black, and woke up at the way station. Roland takes Jake with him on his journey across the desert and through the mountain. Jake becomes a symbolic son to Roland. The importance of these other worlds, as well as some of their inhabitants, is revealed as the series progresses. The Gunslinger takes the form of a series of interleaved flashbacks, as Roland's quest is interrupted with dreamlike vignettes from his youth. By far the most stylized and enigmatic of King's longer works, the book is perhaps best seen as an introductory tableau or prologue to the entire series, the subsequent books of which are much more concrete and linear in their story-telling. With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. Ambassadar
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by RPG but some medieval setting books that are Americanized are the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and A Song of Fire and Ice series by George RR Martin. Sorry if you already knew about these and this wasn't what you meant by your request. Wheel of Time is about a boy that finds out he has the "Dragon Reborn" and must unite the world and develop his power to fulfill the prophecies that he will fight the Dark Lord and his hordes in the final battle. Great plot, great buildup, great settings but it can get a bit wordy and drag at some points because it is about a 12 book series. I think he is in the process of writing the last book in the series. The Song of Fire and Ice is a grittier rougher in your face series about a family called the Winterfells that are one of the 4 or 5 most powerful families in a kingdom. A war for the succession of the throne breaks out and alliances made and broken and all heck breaks loose. While all this is happening the northern border of the kingdom is neglected for the most part and attacks have been happening against the wall that separates the kingdom from the dangerous unknown to the north. indy500fan
Right forum, book topics are done a lot though. But since this one is more specific, it will probably be OK. Sounds like you want The Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan, like Ambassador said in his post above.
Revenga
Both of the books he said look cool, but what I wasn't so sure about was TWELVE books, haha. The number scares me, but I'll guarentee that once I start reaing them I won't even notice. Maybe i'll give those a try, or maybe i'll give this topic a little longer... i'll see how much they cost. Thanks. |Msg me me in-game | IrreIephant| ^ capital i

He has some done as far as I know and the general plot, so it could be ghost-written if he dies, but still it probably just wouldn't be the same. Still, they are pretty good books. Revenga
Well that's sorry to hear. :? Under the circumstances that he doesn't die ( Thank Gosh ) I'm a really slow reader and it will take me a fair deal of about two weeks+ just to read one book, so it really doesn't matter. : Another question, is there a good chance of finding these in my local library? I almost bought the 10 Wheel of Time books for 10 bucks on Ebay but my dad said he'll just check the library. |Msg me me in-game | IrreIephant| ^ capital i

It's got a good mix of sci-fi and a more midieval townish setting, and unforgettable characters. One of my favorites. I definitely recommend this book. I also recommend the Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow series. Those two are the best of the series but the entire series is pretty good. The books are sci-fi and based around war against the Buggers, an alien race similar to that of Zerg off of Starcraft if you've played that. Rebdragon
the elegant universe by Brain Greene. It's not a real novel though; it's almost like a text book, but it's a real page turner. It talks about quantum mechanics and special relativity, and moves on to explaining superstring theory for the majority of the book. It's a great read; he uses great analogies to explain very complicated subjects. If you love physics, read it :P . Time and space are so weird o_O. [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series. I almost bought the 10 Wheel of Time books for 10 bucks on Ebay but my dad said he'll just check the library. Yep, they should be there. It's one of the more popular fantasy series. Seems like a lot of people like A Song of Fire and Ice trilogy (I think), but I could never get into them. I read about 30% of the first book, and didn't like it so I quit. I don't quit reading books very often, that may have been the first and only time.
