He was following the 'Remove all the safety labels, and let the problem sort itself out' train of thought.

Natural selection.

I agree. Dont like the fact that it blocks out your pass. I dont think this will even help. Scammers will continue to find ways to get your pass.

I engineered this thread with precise variables that I know would cause lul-worthy flames.

As the saying goes "What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger". There's a difference between learning the hard way and dying in real life; I'm sure you realize that.

Anyway, I don't think there isn't a single person alive who isn't the wiser today because of hard lessons learned in the past. It's an inevitable part of growth. Have you ever met someone who seems to have no common sense what-so-ever, only to later find out (s)he is that way because his/her parents protected him/her from everything? At some point in time, one has to let others make their own mistakes.

I couldn't agree more, that doesn't mean, though, that you'd put danger in that person's way on purpose.

Slightly off topic, but as you're quoting Nietzche, he also said

"Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster"

Relevance to RS community these days?

i've spoken to scammers before, the reason that many scam is because it affected them and they think it'll work for anyone else. the update should only harm you if you are a scammer or have an obvious password, neither of which is recommended.

if you actually try it now, it won't star it out, it'll prevent the sentence from even showing up.

It's not about feeding the unknowing to the proverbial wolves but rather leaving the unwilling to make their mistakes.

I don't see the relevance between that statement and Runescape. Explain?

Perhaps it's just me, but I still think we are off track when we blame the victim. He was scammed. Focus is better placed on eliminating the scams and would-be scammers, than telling a victim 'Well, it was your own fault'

Learing from ones mistakes is all well and good - But not making *any* mistakes is surely better. No?

I can understand the need for caution from experience in the real world. But there are so many open variables in the real world that aren't there in RS. I don't think the two are comparable.

RuneScape is a closed environment, Jadex have ultimate control.

In RL, the mother can't stop the bleach from being harmful - It simply is,

In RS, Jadex have the power to ensure that people who shouldn't be harmed, aren't harmed. By 'shouldn't' i'm referring to scamming, hacking, and other - unintended use of game mechanics to unfairly harm a player, not intended difficulties, like quests, clues or the wilderness.

I for one am glad that Jadex have taken the initiative, and are trying to use this power to make a difference.

"Warning: If you are reading this then this warning is for you. Every word you read of this useless fine print is another second off your life. Don't you have other things to do? Is your life so empty that you honestly can't think of a better way to spend these moments? Or are you so impressed with authority that you give respect and credence to all that claim it? Do you read everything you're supposed to read? Do you think every thing you're supposed to think? Buy what you're told to want? Get out of your apartment. Meet a member of the opposite sex. Stop the excessive shopping and masturbation. Quit your job. Start a fight. Prove you're alive. If you don't claim your humanity you will become a statistic. You have been warned- Tyler"

well i'm on both sides... This is exactly like beggars: the beggars are the scammed, JaGEx is the people who give the money to the beggars. The beggars get the money and keep begging, not learning about skills and moneymaking. But on the other hand for those who are against the catering thing, do you have a better alternative? remember that it should implie JaGEx making money...

Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. You want everything that's--falls off garbage can

Camera guy: Whoa, haha, are you okay dude?

Camera guy: runs away still laughing

Lock Please

The only way bad things can happen to you in RuneScape is if you are being stupid. Trying to melee the monkey madness demon(I tried it at level 80 with fairly low prayer and armor, bad idea), going to the kq, kbd, or dagannoth king lair unprepared, saying your password, or not checking the price of something are all ways that you can die or lose your account.

All of these things are caused by simple ignorance, and can be fixed easily by thinking before you act.

Granted, you can die while pking or abyss rcing, but when you go into the wilderness you acknowledge that you are prepared to lose whatever you have with you.
