  1. Exactly. He's one of the few Aussies able to swing that ball, and believe me, it's going to swing. Good toss to win though, the head groundsman reckons there'll be some serious turn by the end of day 3. Wouldn't want to batting last on this one. Teeg
  2. Here I am in sunny Cardiff; in work though, unfortunately, not at Sofia Gardens. Historic day, the first ever test match in Wales. Plenty of Aussies about in town last night. It was "g'day" this and "g'day" that, but we bought them a few beers and had a great time. Teeg PS - Why do Australians answer their own questions. For example "What's your favourite colour Blue?" "What's your favourite passtime Sport?" "What's your name Sheila?"
  3. Short answer - No, but. Long answer - Yes, however.
  4. Heaven forfend that I split hairs or anything, but: com·mu·nism (k?m'y?-n?z'?m) n. A theoretical economic system characterized by the collective ownership of property and by the organization of labor for the common advantage of all members. Communism A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people. The Marxist-Leninist version of Communist doctrine that advocates the overthrow of capitalism by the revolution of the proletariat. [French communisme, from commun, common, from Old French, from Latin comm?nis; see commune2.] The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition Copyright © 2009 by Houghton Mifflin Company. It seems that communism can be both an economic system AND a system of government.
  5. Nooooooooo!!!! Just when I'd bought out the entire stock of donkey heads. :wall: D'oh Teeg
  6. Hmmm... 1. I believe you're only commenting on censorship involving swearing, nudity and violence. What about censorship of material which may be harmful to the national security? Good idea? Bad idea? Just let every country in the world know all the security secrets of YOUR country?? 2. Do any of you honestly believe that you should be able to say whatever you want, whenever you want, to whomever you want? IMHO that way lies anarchy. 3. Do any of you with children believe they should watch anything, listen to anything? At any age? If so I feel sorry for your children, if not where does the "censorship" begin and end? 4. Not too sure about the nudity issue. You can be arrested for being nude in public (oops nearly wrote pubic!!), via public decency violations, but can see any form of nudity in art galleries, museums etc. Apparently "art" is fine, whereas public nudity is not! I can't see the logic in that, personally, although I suppose you have the choice of viewing art but no choice if Joe Bloggs streaks down the street in front of you! (Although I wouldn't complain if it was Angelina Jolie!!) The problem is not censorship per se, but the amount/form. Some censorship is essential (national security) whereas other forms are moral and open to interpretation (public nudity, swearing). When I was a lot younger, I thought that censorship was totally wrong in all forms. Then I grew up and realise that some forms were needed, although some censorship was still over the top. Parental control cannot cover all types of censorship, what children learn amongst their friends cannot be controlled, they can hear far more in the schoolyard than they could on TV. I've started to ramble. Basically, not all forms of censorship are needed and not all forms are bad. The main questions are where does one draw the line; and who do we choose to draw that line? Happy to discuss Teeg
  7. Last Chaos Elemental Post was this. "Red Raktuber" obviously = Red October the submarine as everybody else as already surmised (so why did I write it then??) "ventricle of darkness" may = heart of darkness, a book by Conrad which, if my memory serves me right, is about a steam boat going up river to save somebody or other... I simplify because it's been a long time since I read it and I need coffee anyway.
  8. Consciousness. I don't mean being awake or asleep!! The very ability to perceive feelings of happiness, misery, envy or love etc., has led man to try and define these emotions. Instead of basic instincts driving humans on; food, shelter, a mate, we now want to have what the next man has (or better). Yes, call it desire, greed or envy, but it all boils down to the same thing. Instead of being happy with our lot, accepting that this is it and getting on with enjoying it, we want more and more, see others with more and more, see advertisements promising more and more; AND WE BELIEVE IT! When people talk of "bettering themselves" what exactly do they mean? What is the benchmark they are using? Everyone should try to be the best THEY can, and not look in envy at others. Make your own decisions, that's probably the one true freedom we all have. I've ranted on long enough. Need coffee.
  9. Sorry everyone, totally off topic, but am I the only one who cringed when he read this. Cruch Attack... OUCH Teeg
  10. Well IMHO Runecrafting is definitely the harder. Xp rate only gives the theoretical speed. During my race to 99 slayer I slayed for hour after hour, it's easy to mentally switch off. For me, Runecrafting is incredibly boring, I find it difficult to spend more than 2 hours in any session, running back and forth, filling and emptying pouches etc., etc. So, yes, whilst Runecrafting is faster per hour, slayer is easier to do for much longer periods of time. Again, this is only MY opinion, obviously. Teeg
  11. Q: How can you tell a Scotsmans clan? A: Put your hand up his kilt, if he's got a quarterpounder with cheese he's a McDonald. Hmm. On second thoughts, you probably shouldn't use that one!

    JAFFA CAKES

OK Having worked in the "industry" some time ago, I think I can furnish you with the answer. The difference is based on what happens when the items go stale. Cakes get hard when they go stale. Biscuits get soft when they go stale. Jaffa Cakes are in fact cakes, as the sponge gets hard when stale. Now the science bit! This is based on the ERH (Equilibrium Relative Humidity) of the various products. Cakes generally have an ERH of 70 - 85%, some as high as 90%. After a time the cakes lose moisture to the air, making them harder. Biscuits, on the other hand, have a much lower ERH, normaly in the 60%'s. These gain water from the air over time, making them softer. Hope this helps.
  13. Hmm. Firstly on topic. The reason I agree that scum like Savage should be banned from Britain is that we breed enough scum of our own, without importing any more!! Many countries limit who enters their borders; convicted criminals, refugees and other "undesirables". Why not have a go at the likes of the USA, Australia, France etc. for this "infringement of liberties"? Now to the thread. Marvellous fun reading through this, from the guy who thinks kids can catch "gayness", to the bloke who thinks that everyone who disagrees with him is a bigot. I did laugh, though, at the Americans who think that, just because your Government says so, there is a separation between church and state. What's that little phrase that's printed on your money? What's on the seal that sits behind every judge in every courthouse? Oh yes, I remember, "IN GOD WE TRUST"!
  14. Just a point of information; Stephen Hawking is ENGLISH, he was born in Oxford, England. Check your history to find if "almost every intelligent person comes from the states", I think you'll be unpleasantly surprised!
  15. Stance: Not a problem to me personally, although I don't think sexual orientation should play a part in a game. Religion: Umm... Jedi Orientation: Straight, although why this matters is beyond me.
  16. Well I'm *cough*over21*cough*, and have a reasonable job. I choose to play RS because I enjoy it. I don't advertise the fact that I play an on-line game, but neither am I secretive about it, I talk about it if asked. I still have a social life, work, friends etc., and play RS as often as I want to play it. That's obviously not an addiction, but I would be bloody annoyed if I couldn't play anymore, for whatever reason. I never worry about what other people think, neither should you. Do your own thing, enjoy yourself. I thought Taboo meant prohibited, forbidden. I don't think RS is either of those, unless in your own mind! Teeg
  17. qft What about the Elf lands? Many Welsh references there. Even the capital Prifddinas is Welsh for "capital city". Anyway, Omali is correct. The developers are just using what they see/hear/read IRL and adapting ideas into the RS storyline. Teeg
  18. Hobgoblinpie You have shown you have the patience, resilience etc to get to lvl 99. However, if I, for example, have degrees in Chemistry, Physics and Applied Mathematics, can I hold a debate on Economics with someone with a degree in Economics, when all I've done is Ec 101? I have shown I have the intelligence etc to get a degree, but NOT in the subject I'm arguing about. Do I say "Heh economics is easy, anyone can get a degree in that, I choose not to"? Or do I listen to the person with more experience? Happy to discuss Teeg
  19. I can, sort of, understand what you're saying. However, since when has being 11 years old a defence for breaking the rules? "Poor little" Timmy obviously lied about his age initially, then resorted to breaking more rules by RWTing just to get the items he wanted without having to work for them. I can't understand why Jagex didn't mention the 13 age limit and the fact that RWT is against the rules when they replied. Yes his parents should have taken more interest in what their son was doing, and done some more research into the game before allowing him to spend all that money, but ultimately it's Timmy's responsibility. 20. What about too lazy to fix split infinitives? Teeg
  21. Hmm. It seems to me that you were stooping to his level by continuing the conversation. It's immature to get upset by someone you don't know, and are unlikely to ever meet in your life, when they mock you in a game. You apparently "have more important things to worry about than this game", but come running onto these forums to rant about it. If you honestly find his actions "sickening", I should seek medical assistance with your problem. You are aware of the ignore function, but refuse to use it because "it won't make it go away". I put it to you that it does EXACTLY that. There are many idiots in this game (and indeed everywhere on the internet), if you have been playing for 8 years you should have become immune by now. On a separate point, if I was as touchy as you I would be most offended by your use of the word "cretin". Look it up. You rant about this person being offensive, then do the same to him without him being able to defend himself. Hypocritical much? To sum up I don't support your rant but I defend to the death your right to make it. Sticks and stones etc Ignore insults - even if you don't actually use the ignore function Enjoy the GAME Happy to discuss Teeg
  22. Bill, George, anything but Sue! Also, if Mr. and Mrs. Bucket had a daughter, they shouldn't call her Edna. Teeg
  23. vroom vroomed vroomingly down the road i guess.... I've highlighted bits for those who didn't see it first time round. Oh, come on, his name is VROOM for goodness sake!! Teeg
  24. It's clear that Mr. Vroom was heading down the road of terrorism and it's good to see he was apprehended with such speed. He couldn't dodge the law and he is obviously a cad, ill actually! For demonstrating their willingness to help police and such, on daring to blow the whistle, Jagex deserve praise. He won't be sipping martinis, sand sifting through his toes, for some time. Teeg
  25. "In our first update of the month, youll be asked to return to Falador, where the fourth Achievement Diary will be waiting for you. With Falador being such a familiar area, you can be sure that some tasks will be straightforward, but there are challenges, too. Are you capable of slaying a skeletal wyvern? Have you encountered the vast mole beneath Wysons flowers? Rewards will include brand new white lily seeds and a shiny new emote. Once youve done that little lot, your next step will be a watery one, as you cross the Fremennik Province and the islands beyond. No doubt Baba Yaga and her Lunar friends will have several tasks for the higher levels, but pet rocks, seaweed and Slayer caves await those slightly less familiar with the Fremennik ways. Rewards will include enhanced resource collection for your Etceterian workers, improved lyres, and a potential 20k experience reward lamp." Is it just me, but I can't for the life of me see where it says there will be a Relleka Diary? Falador Diary, yes, the fourth Achievement Diary, but nowhere does it mention the fifth being in Relleka. It mentions some tasks and rewards, but does not associate these with a diary. Probably just me. Teeg
