Azvareth
As I woke up this morning (which was about 20 minutes ago - no more, no less) I thought to myself "hmm... mmmmh... Yes. Definitely. I should make a thread at my favourite forum (), and do what I do best. I shall whine. I shall whine until the meaning of said word, have recived a whole new meaning, but lost all of its significance and effect upon the carnivorous souls that is the media boarders." I thought something else as well, but that is not important right now. What is important, is that you sit back, and bask in the glory, that must be considered as the pinnacle of all whine-threads to date. Right, after that little introduction, which is plain bullcrap I might add, I will jump straight to the case/chase... whatever. How you rate. Yup. I can't help but to notice how some of you rate things (the majority of "things" are of course images). Remember, I am not questioning how you rate things. I'm merely curious, thus I ask you. Sometimes I see images that anyone honestly (no matter the physical and mental disadvantages) could make in less than five minutes. Be it in MS Paint or Photoshop, they required no effort nor talent at all to make. And I see this... user... person, even - who gives said image a "8/10". I lose no sleep over it, but I don't understand how someone with their sight even remotely intact can give an image of that "caliber" a rating of 80% - when 100% (a 10) should mean the image is godlike and/or flawless. But then moments later, I see the same... user... person, even - rating another image which undoubtebly is 10000 x 8ÃÆââ¬Å¡ÃâùÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâú better, the same "8/10". And after going through yet another sleepless night (which these sort of matters generally tend to produce) I am still in a state of confusion, as to how two images, one being bad in my opinion, and the other being very good... in my opinion, can be given the same rating. Do you go after the person's indivualistic endeavour and progress, or simply how much you like it? But somehow, I don't think two images which is so different from eachother, effort and talent-wise, can not be compared. No matter the artist, and no matter how much it stinks compared to his prior makings. (I'm still blabbing about this one... user... or person, even.) Anyway, I have to go take a shower now, so I'll stop here. But can someone please shed some light here? Because I still don't understand. // Azvi. Victim
I GIVE THIS POST A 8/10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , people who rate 6-8 out of ten just want a free post normally, it's a easy one to rate for, because they won't flame you for being too low or too high. But alot of people rate things for how they are done instead of the final result, i'm not sure what is the right way, but I think both should be taken into consideration. Masky
I think those 8/10 ratings you're talking about are made out of pity for the poor person who spent 5 hours on making a sig that anybody else would have been able to produce at the age of 2 or less :)
Azvareth
i only red the first part summarise it for me ploz No. Stop being such a spap. Masky, if someone spent five hours on making a sig, wouldn't that sig be considered as something the person put effort in to create? :) As for "pity" posts... well, they are of course imensily pointless and achieves nothing else but giving the person a minor ego-boost... which won't last longer than an hour or two, after a mod has closed the thread, banned and warned a number of posters due to uncalled flaming and sexually-oriented explicit comments regarding the author's nationality, sexuality, his no-good use of grammar and spelling... and, of course, his annoying signature. You know I'm right. Victim, yes, that would be the natural reason, wouldn't it? And I do not doubt that that is the reason in most cases. But I have seen those posts by... well... who probably are considered "respected" and "contributing" people - who I don't think gives a bleedin' dime about their post count. :P // Azvi. Zonorhc
Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and some beholders have odd eyes. I agree with you that many of the ratings made here are extremely generous to the undeserving or extremely harsh to the deserving. That's why I only ask for constructive criticism (and money!) with regard to what I do. jabraulter
Masky I think those 8/10 ratings you're talking about are made out of pity for the poor person who spent 5 hours on making a sig that anybody else would have been able to produce at the age of 2 or less Who the hell spends 5 hours making a sig, i sure dont.... :P and i totally get where you're coing from az. really, people rate based on comparing them to the best of the best--when often times, the two arent even closely related. also, they tend to show biases towards certain members who may be extraordinary at waht they do, yet they have had past experiences that didnt please them, causing them to develope a strong dislike of the person's work. when people rate, they take into consideration their own likes. someone might see an abstract that they absolutely loathe, then another person could look at it and think it was the greatest thing in the whole world. then those same two people could look at a "better" (what IS "better"?) abstract sig and have opposite opinions again. it erally all has to do with personnal opinion, and taste. eye appeal--sometimes, but that throws peope off cuz some people might like one style, and others another. this is a good observation, glad you brought up this topic. :) :P

About 1 hour to get the main dolphin brushed (getting the idea and trying to make it look like a dolphin) about 25 minutes for the second one. 45 Minutes for the whale. More than an hour to compile it into a working signature. First post to tip.it. Correcting things for about 45 mins. Then tweaking the thing for azvareth more than one hour. I'm postitive I spent about 5 hours on that. Yeh, I'm slow, but the dolphins and whales are all made on 600x600 canvas and the whole sig originally in 300x600. On topic: Good point Azvareth. Nadril
Sometimes i think i give out ratings to easily. I usualy give one out depending on the persons ability, i.e if they just started and made a decent sig, i'll rate higher than the good sig maker making an avarage sig (both for thier lvls of experiance) :) And while i haven't had sigs take 5hours i think, i have had bigger peices take longer
