steiner99
Heya! Welcome to The Great Music Database (GMD)! Recently, I was looking at my iPod and I noticed it still had like 175MB free space. So I wondered what to put on it, but I couldn't think of any good groups! :-k So, this is what this thread is about! It will have the most big music genres in alphabetical order, all with any artist I can think about that makes that kind of music, so, if at any time you can think of a group you should listen to, then just consult this database! Also, since I'm not god (what a pitty :-s ), I don't know every band there is on earth. So this is where you could come in! If you would happen to know of a band that is NOT on the list yet or if something is in the wrong genre, please let me know, so I could add/edit it! This is the form you should use when you found a new artist/band Artist/Band Name: Genre: When you would happen to find a flaw, use this! Artist/Band Name: What should be corrected: Now, let's get on with the list! NOTES: * Is there already a thread about this? Please let me know, so I could let this die! * Some bands (like Blink-182) may not exist anymore, but you can still get their albums! Bubsa
All I can see this doing is cause a huge arguement over what 'genre' a band is, with fan-boys getting angry, purists getting angry, and eveyone getting angry at each other for flaming. Sorry, but in this community, this won't work. (well) This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

Sorry, but in this community, this won't work. (well) Tiesto isn't techno. :') Put him under trance. Seriously, if we just work together a little bit and get over ourselves with the genres, I'm sure we can work things out. Of course correct information should be up there. But maybe we can be a little bit less offended and less hostile on the corrections. It's a pretty cool idea though, and it would limited the 'recommend me some bands from " topics. But it's incredibly hard. Since some artist go for various categories. So it can become pretty complex. :) Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!

Nadril
It is a nice idea. I'm going to asume we aren't going to have sub genres in this? I mean, like within metal we won't have "heavy metal / power metal / black metal / ect." right?
zaquierming
Oh, god. I don't think this is going to turn out well. Best of luck with it, it's a nice idea if people can keep their arguing down. indy500fan
Punk is Punk rock, I don't understand why you have it listed twice. You could separate Punk into Punk and Pop-punk (keep Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Blink 182 away from being in the same list as Bad Religion) but just one category would be good enough. indy500fan
Well, I've put Punk Rock in the same category as Punk now, but, what genre would you put Bad Religion in? :-k The difference between Pop-punk and Punk is highly debatable, so I would probably just leave it as Punk, and not separate it. You are going to get people complaining (like I did above) about Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Blink 182, ect. being in the same category as the great bands like Bad Religion, but I think this would be the best way to do it. Of course it is up to you in the end.

steiner99
I see. heavy metal isn't screaming though. Heavy metal is bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, ect. Yes, but then what's the difference between Metallica and Iron Maiden uc. There is less difference between them, then like between Iron Maiden and Slipknot! Another name for 'Metal with screamy lyrics' then?
