woopidoo2
Wow, very impressive indeed  Ive got a question though, in this photo, you seem to be using a Sigma 50-500mm (with an extender?) if I'm not mistaken, but the lenses you mentioned dont look like this one at all. I suppose you sold it? :) Keep it up, you live in such a great environment. ArmadylArcher
Oh no, that's not a 50-500. That's a 300-800 5.6 sigma that belonged to a friend who uses Nikon gear. I use canon gear But for reference sake, a 50-500 is handholdable and located here: http://www.vividlight.com/Articles/413.htm This was the lens I was using (300-800): http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses ... avigator=3 Need a super strong tripod to hold it up steady...It's pretty damn heavy

Hey,nice works, just a question, where do you find those auroras? and have you ever used Nikon?because i'm thinking of either buying a Nikon D300 or a Canon 50D,i also have a Nikon F60(film SLR),which uses AF Nikkor lens, which means i can use it on the D300,so? ArmadylArcher
Hi elias; I used to shoot with a nikon d40x, d300 and d3. I strongly recommend the 50D; it's what I use primarily to create these shots. I also use the canon 5D mark II. I'm strictly canon and never going back to nikon! Both cameras are great cameras, but I find nikon's lenses extremely expensive for the higher grade G glass ..more than canon's L lenses and I don't believe they're worth it. I have a new website, I am from the NWT of Canada. Between August-May is when the aurora kicks up around here, with abo[bleep]e 0 active during the summer, practically. check me out on http://www.synergystudiosphotography.com My blog tells you all about the shoots I have, or the places I go to shoot, or any other stories of relevance that come up. Glad you enjoy.
greenslime89
Hey guys, quick question for canon users: Can you use manual FD lenses on EOS bodies if you have a mount adapter? I reckon it should be possible, but a guy in a camera shop said it wasn't (though he didn't sell FD lenses). I know there would be no AF on the FD lenses but I don't mind that. The only place that has some FD lenses is Perth Camera Shop, and that's an 80 mile round trip :( A trip I'd be happy to make if I knew that it'd be worth it. Incidentally, it's been a while since I've posted haha. For those wondering my reason for going for MF lens over AF lens: I can get a 24mm F/2.8 for £60 and a FD/EOS adapter for about £30, and there are no wide angle lenses in that price region that would suit my camera exactly  Photos! I would gladly buy one if I could spot a cheap one, otherwise I wont buy it :) Manual lenses( with an M42 mount) are dirt cheap nowadays, and some (especially Carl Zeiss') are actually tack sharp. [http://woopidoo2.deviantart.com][Tip.it Moderator from Dec 10, 2006 to 03 Sep, 2008]
greenslime89
I'm getting the Sigma 15-30mm F/3.5-4.5 second hand. Could be delivered on Saturday which I hope it isn't cos my mail collect service starts Monday/Tuesday. The hell I've had with Ebay and PayPal is incredible. I'm never using either again! I was also looking at the Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 but it wouldn't have been wide enough for my liking. Will post some pics taken with it when I get it and find somewhere photogenic! Photos! Eh,forget the 15-30mm 3.5/4.5,you won't get creative with it,you really would have limits, also,i wouldn't suggest the 28mm f 2.8,it all depends on what you want to use,if you want the best ultrawide lenses, then you could use a tokina 11-16mm (tho it's manual focus, and if you are on a budget, then get the 12-24,it's 400 dollars.),which is the best ultrawide lens for DX format DSLRs,and gives sharper images than high end lenses like the Nikkor 12-24 3.5/4.5 which costs something like 1200 dollars last time i checked, And surely the 28mm f 2.8 is nice, but it is nowhere compared to the 1.8 one,in the end,it's your call. Shiny
Any really good lens I should think about getting for my pentax? The only ones I can get on trademe are fungus ridden 20 year old things. Anything I should think about? I narrowed down my options of what I could get. A couple of filters, a cheap prime lens or a tripod.
