Kill_Life
Hello, I have a question (Runescape related but I believe it belongs here) and I hope you guys can help me. Every day (yes, every day!) at exactly 7 pm, Runescape starts to lag. Every other time, everything goes really good and fast. But at exactly 7 pm, Runescape starts to lag really bad. And it's only Runescape, everything else goes well. It's really annoying. Anyone knows what's wrong? And is it my computer? Able to fix it? Thanks in advance, ~Kill Life "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do"[Currently playing: K1ll L1f3]

Mercifull
Without you providing any information about your computer I can only guess that at 7pm your computer runs a virus scan or an update of some kind. mastermule52
At 6:55, go to your Task Manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC on most WinXP machines) and sort by CPU (click the "CPU" header until the bigger numbers are at the top.) If CPU is not a column you can sort by, go to view --> select columns --> check the CPU box. When RS starts to lag, check to see what process(es) is/are using lots of your CPU. Google them, or if you're unsure, post the process name here, and I'd be happy to help you with the ordeal. Nadril
Without you providing any information about your computer I can only guess that at 7pm your computer runs a virus scan or an update of some kind. That sounds pretty likely. The only other question I want to add is how long does this lag seem to go on? 10 minutes? an hour? Until the next day? Yeah, AVG certainly used to run a scan around that time that was fairly discrete, I'm sure other virus scanners would do as well. Kill_Life
Ok, I checked my CPU from 7 pm till now (fw minutes after 7 pm). And I found this out: A few seconds before 7 pm, a file named swdoctor.(you know the rest) (which is most lickely Spyware Doctor) skyrocks. It goes 70 and at 7 pm it goes 100. Meaning all CPU is used up I assume, which can cause the lag? Currently it's dancing between 70 and 100. Ok, anyone knows the solution? Ty in advance again. Edit: Just checked Spyware Doctor, and it's running a scan :XD: Would never come up with this, thanks for all help "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do"[Currently playing: K1ll L1f3]
Nadril
Yup thats it. Turn off the auto scan or, a better idea, place to a time when you aren't going to be on your PC.
McGuff1
Edit: Just checked Spyware Doctor, and it's running a scan :XD: I use Ad-Aware SE for spyware checking. I check for updates and run a scan every day as soon as I boot up the computer. Doesn't automatically scan at certain time of day. AVG anti-virus checks for updates at like Sunday 9 AM for me which can cause lag at that time. Install shield for one of my other games has an auto update time but it gives me a message before doing it.
Kill_Life
Ok, thanks, might change time to something where I play the comp less. There is always a small scan running aswell, but doens't do anything to the speed of my comp, so I don't care that one. This question (quite a lot questions eeh?): Can my computer preform a scan when it's off? I assume not, but just need some confirmation. Thanks again  Ok, thanks Cruiser, this answers all my questions now :D "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do"[Currently playing: K1ll L1f3]

mastermule52
Can my computer preform a scan when it's off? It can't. However: some have options to shut down your computer when the scan is finished. You also could find the estimated time to scan, give yourself a little extra leeway time, and use a timed-shutdown to turn your computer off. Example: Say you time your scan and it takes 2 hours. (long time, but this is just an example. You should be able to use a command, in a dos prompt (click start, click run, type "cmd" and press enter) like this to shut it down: tsshutdn 7200 /powerdown This will look like: This will pop up a screen saying "System will shut down in 7200 seconds" - Go ahead and start your scan, and go to sleep :-) You can of course adjust the time however you need. Hope this helps keep your computer safe, and electricity bill low! :D The refuge that you built to flee that places that you've come to fear the most ... is the place that you have come to fear the most.Operator - http://www.heartunit.orgCouncil - http://z8.invisionfree.com/skillazModerator - http://forum.meebo.com
