n64jive
Today, I took a break from my RS life and went to the city to install amp, subs, and 2 6x9's. I told the sales clerk that my limit was $800 and he said he could hook me up with a pretty sweet system for $800. I didn't believe the man, but I figured any system would be better then my current system. We originally were planning on going with all Boston Acoustics, but later realize that the price tag would of been around $950-975. He told me that Alpine had a package deal going on. Two 10" subs (900 peak, 300 RMS) and an Amp (400W @ 2 Ohms per channel). I believe the guy wired it in 2 Ohms because I don't believe it could have this much power at 4 Ohms. The sound is amazing. This $530(with sub box) system at retail puts out just as much power as my friends $900 system that he bought at factory prices(his dad owns an electronics appliance store, retail would most likely be $1200). I was not expecting anything near as much bass as this system produces. To top it all off, I'm still running my factory head unit. The guy at the store told me if I would replace that I could increase my sound quality so much more then it already is, plus be able to add more bass to my subs with the 6x9's picking up more of the treble and mids. To say the least, I am very impressed with my new system and to top it off, has a 1 year warranty, so if anything blows(which I am expecting, at this price), the company will replace it. (By the way, I drive a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT 75th Anniversary Ed.) Note to Mods! If this is in the wrong place, please move it to the appropriate forum

sour_tacos
Are you one of those guys that go around at 2 in the morning with the music pumped so high that it makes the ground shake? If so, then my mom trys to drag race guys like you because she thinks its cool. She'll be driving me home from a friend's house, and we'll be at a stoplight. She'll see some people with the music blasting, and she'll be like "Em, watch those suckers eat my dust!" Then pull away really fast when the light turns green in an effort to beat out the cruisers. I usually sink about five feet into my seat at this point.

megakiller32
That was $530 you could have spent on a girlfriend. By that do you mean $530 on buying a girlfriend, or $530 on a girlfriend which already exists? n64jive
That was $530 you could have spent on a girlfriend. Hmm, spend $530 on a girl, or spend $530 on myself. OH, Wait! I got an idea! How bout I go pick up a girl in my car, turn up the tunes, and amaze her with the bass. Very nice!! What kind of music you pumping through em? I like a lil bit of everything. If I want to here some bump, I put on some hip-hop, but I also like listening to a lot of alternative rock. Poopingman
You...appear to have been ripped off, but not nearly as bad as it would be if you went to Best Buy, or another large chain store. I've been installing car audio for 5 years (MECP) and quite frankly, the internet is the way to go.. The only advantage of going to retail stores is the warranty..but if you know what you're doing, you shouldn't have to worry about blowing anything. Not trying to rain on your parade, but we don't get threads on this topic posted often, and I would really like to spread the word on how ebay or independant sites is the way to go for car audio. I'm honestly not trying to brag or anything, but I paid about $600 for my entire setup, and I assure you, it surpasses yours in both sound quality and bass output. Just trying to set an example....also, ported enclosures are the way to go if you want to get more bass for your money. Its worth learning the math skills to map it out and get the port frequency correct before you build it. You'd be surprised, I've made systems that run maybe 200,300RMS sound like the best setups you'd find from Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King.... Show her your funked (replacement of the 'n' with a 'c' optional) up car and impress her with your bass because, ya know, we're all that shallow. What a great catch you'll be for some (un)lucky lady. All I have to do is install a new head unit, I'll have great sound integrated with great bass. I might have over-payed on the box(by the way, it is ported), but installation was only $70 which includes wiring from the battery to the back, the wiring kit itself, wiring to the head-unit, plus all the wiring which I have no idea how to do. Ok, well you got me all wrong. First off, I am a very nice guy. I have friends who get drunk, and just hit on girls in the worst way. I, on the other hand, make pretty good friends with most of the girls. Because I act so nice, most girls think of me more as a friend before they can see me as a boyfriend. Sounds like a lame line, but usually tends to be the case.

No problem having them do the wiring, thats definitely an easy thing to botch up, especially if you have no experience. Prefab ported boxes are incorrectly tuned, and are actually significantly hurting your bass response. Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King.... Very little hard rock (slipknot), Sorry, but a 94 Civic(or whatever junk heap you drive) with a sound system worth more than the engine isn't going to impress a girl. Or, if you do get a girlfriend..."Hey sweetie...let's go sit in my car and listen to music...since I don't have any money for dates...or for gas even." Great plan.
