FFVI For. The. Win.

I do admit X was awesome. It was a truly nice story line that fit more into present time. But FFVI really is awesome due to the fact that it is: Classical, contains very funny yet deep characters, memorable scenes (Opening scene and the opera house), and has an excellent story line coupled with individual story's behind the characters.

As much as people say X-2 is terrible, once you finish X, do play it. The story line may be a bit weird, but the battle system is my favorite of any final fantasy.

Hell no. Pop in FFVII, you'll be playing (and enjoy yourself) for a looong time (3 discs worth).

I fail to understand what is so amazing about FFVII...

Before I start giving reasons, bear in mind that this game is nearly 10 years old, and i'm discussing the impact it had and how much fun it was during that era (it obviously is blown away by mordern day RPGs, but in it's time, it was the best).

For one, the story was amazing. At that time, video games were never really thick in plot at the level that FFVII was (the only other plot-heavy story that was on a level as deep as FFVII was Metal Gear Solid). It had everythign a story needed, it was at movie-caliber. The characters were also in a way multi-dimensional in terms of personality, they all had deep backstorys and different motives that would twist and turn the story into several directions.

As for combat, what am i supposed to say? It's FF, good ol' turn-based combat. This tiem around it was really refined, the materia system and limit breaks made combat much more than just repedeatly (sp?) pressing X. But, FF games have always had one of the best combat systems, so yeah, it was nothing surprising.

I've never really been one to judge a game on it's graphics, but wow, when FFVII popped into my PS1, it was hard not to. It's standard graphics were really good for a PS1 game, and the CG cutscenes blew me away. And they weren't rare, there was a lot of 'em. So FFVII also raised the bar for graphical capabilities.

Bear in mind that the above is all a matter of opinion. :P

although FFVIII was the best ps1 final fantasy final fantasy X is far better

but one thing i noticed

vincent looks like auron and cloud looks like tidus yuna looks like yuffie

You really have alot to learn.

Square have used the same Character Models over and over since the first fully 3d Final Fantasy.

Riona Heartilly (FFVIII) looks the same as Yuna.

Cloud Strife is Tidus as you said.

And according to the creator of the FInal Fantasy games (I think)(maybe someone high up) FFVII was the best to make.

They've used the same type of storyline for ages.

[hide=Ending Spoilers for games]IT usually alternates between who dies.

FFVII- Aeris Died (or Aerith)

FFVIII- Squall dies

FFVII - Dunno who dies

FFX - Tidus "dies"[/hide]

? tidus never existed wasnt it all yunas dream?

This should really have spoilers now for some.

[hide]Tidus was a dream of the fayth. He was created to help Yuna complete her quest, as they new that without motivation, she would never accomplish her goal. His other role was to attempt to give new light into the world, as the cycle of birth and death was never ending, thus he was introduced to challenge the religion of yevon and make the critical changes in the ideology's of the people.[/hide]

Also, the story line for final fantasy's is the same, but not in deaths. The only FF games in which main characters die are 4 and 7 (A wizard in 4 and Arith in 7). Squall never dies. The death of Tidus was made up for in FFX-2. The reoccuring storyline in each game is:

1. Everything is peaceful, and there is a head government.

2. Either the government becomes corrupt or there is an outside evil force.

3. Some heroes meet and journey together for awhile.

4. The heroes finally realize what needs to be done, and prepare to fight the government or outside evil force.

5. Bad guys are defeated, everyone goes home happy.

oh god, i have ffVII, i hate it. the story line is crummy, i don't like the battle system... just all around bad. ffVIII was even worse, had all those and some pretty bad characters. at least ffVII had some cool characters. i personally love 1,2, and 10. i hated 10-2, really bad battle system, and tidus was gone  . i got 5% in before i got absolutely disgusted with it. ffX was awesome, tidus, auron, and wakka were awesome characters, but khimari (sp?) sucked.... and yuna wasn't as flashy, if you know what i mean, than she was in ffX-2. she's just one girl i wouldn't like to see flashy, and i never thought i'd say that.

I loved FF7 the best. I remember getting all the way to disc 2, in the submarine station where the giant robot attacks you and died without a memory card. Then I just started over

FF7 is just simpley the best because its 1 of the few games that actually dives you into scene, and its not your average plot. There is alot of suspense the whole time, and chasing after sephiroth is pretty fun.

Don't really care what FF7 haters say, alot of people loved and enjoy it and more power to them!

The thing about FF7 was it was never really a "go get them, done deal" game. You always was side tracked in the story by something, and they even added pretty meaningless scenes, like when you go to the park and talk with Tifa. But thats what makes it so great, because your getting to know your charater and the others more.

Its fun just walking down the street and then shinra guards attempt to arrest you, so instead, you jump on a train and hitch it out!

Not alot of developers do that in games, they just say "you go here and because the bad guy hates you, now you gotta go here".

Storyline (as Defender said) is full of suspence, they divert you from the game, and there is some interaction with Aeris/Aerith, they then again added that sort of thing into FFX to a more higher level.

Ahh the battle system, now its been awhile since I played this game, four years infact, but I sorta remember it, easy to grasp, much like FFVIII's. X-2's battle system however, now that was semi-orignal, I used the Unerring Path Garment Grid, usually with Gunner and WArrior on it, my two most used garments.

X-2's good ending, now that was a good summary for both the games.

I fail to understand what is so amazing about FFVII...

Heh, I can't objectively put my finger on what's so good about it either but it was definitely the FF I enjoyed the most. There was something about the battles, the characters and the atmosphere of the game that made me keep playing.

FFIX I also really enjoyed for many of the same reasons I liked FFVII. FFX I didn't especially like. Sure, its graphics were awesome for the time, and the battles looked great but some of the atmosphere was lost and the characters were annoying [cabbage]s.

EDIT: Oh yeah, FFVII haters suck. They just resent the fact that something popular can also be good, and want to be "unique".

One factor, I believe, is the graphics. Its hard to compare FFVII and FFX because they look so drastically different. Remember, VII is ten years old now. A lot of us more seasoned gamers remember when it was the height of the genre, graphically and gameplay-wise. So obviously, its harder for new age gamers, brought up on PS2 and the like to compare the two without bias.

FFVI all the way.

Best villains in Final Fantasy. Ever. No questions asked.

I refer, of course, to Ultros and Kefka.

Kefka is exactly the sort of villain that makes you want to beat the everliving crap out of him. He's insane. He has genocidal tendencies. He likes to experiment with sentient beings. He poisons children. On top of all that, he's a clown.
