Any bike riders here??

Featured Replies

I've been having a few problems with my bike lately was curious if anyone might know what it could be. I'm pretty sure it's the gears but I want to be exact.

I let a friend of mines ride my bike and when I got it back I tried to ride it and when I pedal it makes a clicking noise and doesn't pedal as good as it should. Also when I try and pedal fast my bike doesn't move as fast as it should be moving and it just clicks constantly and my feet are moving uber fast as well.

I took it to the shop today they are charging me $60 for a full tune up..I asked what if it still has problems, they told me they'll continue work on it for free.

It seems that they are pretty sure on what it is.

I ride my bike, traditionally in the beginning of summer I ride my bike over 20 kms every day...

Check your chain and gears. The problem must be there. Oil the chain, look for any dents in the gears and chain.

Wash all your gears and chains down, get any mud or grit out. Then let them dry, oil them, and go for a ride and cycle through all your gears slowly a few times. If it's still clicking take it back to the shop.

Take apart your chain, gear and chain system.

Clean it out with hot soapy water, lube it up afterwards, then replace, check all the nuts, bolts, screws are tightened as much as you can.

Only do this if you're confident, 'cause if you replace it wrong, you can noo naw, it even more.

Different combinations of shifts. (Yours has two shift great thingys, one on each handlebar, right?) Mine was doing that yesterday. Just play around with it (WHILE YOU'RE RIDING! NEVER SHIFT WHILE STATIONARY!) for a while, and it should be okay.

Just get a bike with no gears at all, it works for me and I spend two hours on it every day ::'

Seriously though, my dad taught me pretty much every kind of basic bike maintanance technique (tires, lighting, chain/gears//transmission, etc.) by the time I was twelve, but I can't really add anything besides what's already said in this topic. I'd trust the professionals if I were you.

Ask your friend what the heck he used your bike for, might lead to some answers, then make him pay the $60 and never lend it to him again

It sounds like the pedal is loose so you probably need to get it tightened, there is no need to take it apart.

I got my bike tuned when I was around 12...So, 8 years ago...

Cost like $20...You're gettin' it in the backdoor. :P

Sure, he could try that first..

but it could be x of the bearings that have been broken in the pedal chassis.

which is making the cracking noise, it happened to me after an event, it was incredibly muddy and wet, so it was required to put more force on the pedals, which strains the crank system due to mud on the chain, the bearings couldn't handle the pressure and they simply cracked.

Can I be your friend and use your bike? You sound like a great person.
