Ok, I'm in about the strangest situation ever. I backed out of my driveway wrong and my car is now stuck in the driveway. My driveway is very steep and narrow and my car is up against the ledge. If you pull forward itll go into a pile of shrubberies and flip over. If you try to reverse it there isnt enough weight on the back of my explorer so the car's tires just spin. We put about 500 lbs (the combine weight of me and my neighbor, he is pretty large guy) on the back end to see if that would weight it down but it still spun. We can't get a tow truck in because there is no way for a tow truck to get up there. All of the cars are stuck in or out of the house because the car is blocking the driveway.

So any idea on how I can get enough traction on the tires so that I can move this big explorer backwards up a steep incline? Thats the only option of getting it out other than air lifting (which would just be ridiculous). were also thinking of waiting till all the guys from the neighborhood get home from work and trying ti push it a little. All we need is to move the car about 1-2 feet and we can get it unstuck.

so, any ideas?

You could try and get sand bags and put em under the tires, then load up your thign with a ton of crap and get your neighbor and yourself to get on the back of it and try it then...I dont know if that would work, since it worked on a van when it was stuck in mud (the sand thing)..

Hope I helped,

might work, what about a large thing of cardboard? would that give it some traction to backup just a foot?

If you could do a quick picture I think you could get more help, I'm not quite sure what the cars surroundings look like.

Isn't it lovely how having an opinion makes you hated around here?

Take the "carpets" (rubber things at the car's floor), place them under the tires and try then.

Yea, I thought that would help and I tried drawing a diagram but it didn't work. I don;t have a camera to take it with.

basically I just need a way to move a ford explorer in reverse up a steep incline for about 1-2 feet.

What if you turned the wheel as much as possible and tried inching forward?

Let some air out the back tires and then try reversing.

Looks like you'll have to resort to TNT. What? Blowing up the car isn't an option? Well in that case I think your car is stuck.

Does the explorer have 4WD? I'm sure if it did, you would already have thought of that.

get 4 people to pick up the back of it and turn it?

A friend to all is a friend to none.

get 4 people to pick up the back of it and turn it?

I'm pretty sure that it is rear wheel drive, and it cant go forward at all.

when my dad gets home were going to let some air out of the tires and try some stuff. it'll probably work better.

I was thinking along similar lines. Bounce it. Meh, I'm a woman, what do I know?

Anyway, good luck with it.

The Poison Fairy

Is there enough room to somehow tie a rope (or some other super-strong material) to a car and pull your explorer the two feet while someone steers it? (I know, probably not possible, but an idea. :P )

My neighbors do that when one of their four-wheelers dies in a field near us. (Once all three gears were in reverse, and he had to reverse home.

we ended up calling a tow truck to get it off. All I had to do was go fill the tires with some air (we tried to deflate the back ones a bit) my dad made it worse by trying to drive up onto the curb so my car ended up sitting on 3 wheels! I've got pictures we'll upload em later.

Nice job, my family got into similar trouble this winter.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

step on the gas and have people push it from behind/front(whatever direction you want to go) you can also just shift into neutal and push it, have someone steering though

it's how I've always moved cars when they can't be moved by themself(ice/dead battery etc)

yes but my car was on a huge incline and on 3 wheels and turned sideways...The wheel that was off the ground was at the top of the incline so the thing was like a small bit of force away from falling over. I've got pictures but I need to upload em when I can.

We got it out with a tow truck :D

well originally it was not on the curb. I pulled up the driveway and parked on the grassy side as usual, but I was in a huge rush (I had a date and forgot the directions to her house haha) so I ran inside, came back and without thinking, I trying to back up the driveway to get turned around, well I was running into the bushes backing up so I put it in drive and let it roll till I hit the curb, thinking I could back up more. But the car was more heavy on the front then I thought so when I tried to reverse it just spun the tires.

Then when my dad came home he thought he had enough room to drive it up onto the curb and pull it down. But when he went onto the curb the back tire came up while he thought it would go down farther then that. So he climbed out slowly (luckily it didn't flip on him).

the guy with the pool noodles is my brother, he is strange haha, the guy in the white is not holding the pool noodles, there is a little kid standing behind him that makes it look like he is.

That's uh...Interesting. I guess your date was off then? :( :P

And I edited my above post before you saw it.
