S11m
Me on offical forums: Dear Jagex, I have a few suggestions about how to decrease the number of bot-accounts in the game; as i have little fate in my topic surviving here, i hope anyone who reads this gives some feedback or at least bumps this topic so it will not be forgot a soon as i has been published. First thing you should do is add the "submit-code" thingy to the page where you make your account. I don't personally know what that thing is called, but it is used in most Fansite forums and other forums as well. The second idea is to create mail verification so you can only create one account per a mail adr. . That too can be seen in many on-line games. It is very tiresome to create a new mail account each time one of bots gets banned, so it should decrease the number of bots. As of this moment, creating an account is far to simple. Yes, i know, little kids want to play too, but as the rules suggest, no-one under 13 is allowed to play. when a person is 13 is believe he/she should be able to type in a simple code and and mail adr. . I see it work everywhere, so why not in RuneScape too? S11m What do you Tipiter think about this? My post is probably dead in few hours considering the spamming on RSOF forums... :wall: Elfs creating a crystal Axe would be like GreenPeace creating a Nuclear Powered Harpoon for killing seals... DarkDude
The code verification thing would be nice. The email thing would annoy regular users who want to have more than one account, then there's the fact you can get disposable emails really easily. S11m
The code verification thing would be nice. The email thing would annoy regular users who want to have more than one account, then there's the fact you can get disposable emails really easily. Most people i know have about 3 e-mail accounts, so this shouldn't be a big problem. As of the disposable accounts, i really don't know any sites where you can created thousands of e-mail addresses whit out getting IP banned from there. Yes, companies have their own e-mail severs, but still i think it would cut some of the bots down. My post is probably dead in few hours considering the spamming on RSOF forums... :wall: I think that the bot problem is very sophisticated. I see problems with both your ideas. First, that submit code thingy only needs to be submitted once. Still very easy to do manually and after submitting let the auto program take over. Besides, those codes might also be easliy cracked by programs, since many runescape randoms rely on shape determination. Your second idea gives the problem that Jagex will then have to send emails. Sending emails means phishing attempts and people will be scammed that way.
S11m
http://ipoo.org/mail/ Hundreds of sites like that. Okay, now i got pwnt  But still think bots get banned from such sites for creating hundreds of e-mails a day. Olbritishchap
great ideas, that would help slow them down, at least. i mean even if someone did want to make a new account, its not that hard to simply make a new one, whereas an autoer would have to make alot every time one of his accounts get banned

You don't "create" emails, say I was signing up for a forum or something, on the forum I put my email as "[email protected]" now I go to ipoo.org and type in "usihbguhdfgfd" and the email I wanted is there. InkofDeath
There are other ways to prevent autoers, and almost every single idea has been suggested by players o nthe rsof, and yet jagex takes any action, it would take a day to put on captcha. That would stop 2/3s of the autoers, I would bet my money on it. E-mail thing with the site, only allow email verifications from @hotmail, @yahoo, @aol(i don't know if this is the one to aol?), and w/e others there are. An in-game captcha would be the best thing ever, I think. In-put it every hour or two...yes annoying, but it is well worth it.
Aquashock
Jagex already said its not illegal to have more than one account as long as they dont interact. Limiting this to one adress per account would restrict that. I personally have 5 accounts, along with Aquashock, my main account aside. I wouldnt mind the code per account though, thats a decent idea. ^^Click For Monster Hunting Blog (180M+ in drops)^^

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. We don't need Fatigue V2... The way they got around that was the program could detect when they needed to rest, so they opened the sleeping bag, and had some sort of IRC channel with people on it, these people could see what the code was and they'd basically tell the bot and the bot would fill it in. nomar04
Your suggestions wouldn't work. A human creates the account, so it wouldn't low them down if they had to type in 1 more word. Even if you added an in game captcha, it won't work. It failed in fatigue, and it will fail again. The e-mail thing also goes against Jagex's policy where they will not e-mail you.
