Does Jagex play their game?

Well? Do they?

Sometimes I don't believe what kind of stuff they put in this game (tower of life/what lies below/pointless towns that are only there for a single quest/a great deal of the weapons and armor they make/and much much more :| ).

I'm not being ignorant. I tried the tower of life mini game. I got a rune satchel. I picked it up, looked on tipit what it can hold, and quickly dropped it again. Who in their right mind would possibly think that item would have any use?

I remember a good thread on the RSOF, titled "The Value of rs" where the author quoted mod craddock on his stance on horses (it was one of the things on the ridiculous "do not suggest" list. ). It went along the lines of this.

"how would horses add to the value of runescape? Since you can already run and teleport, why would you need them, etc. etc."

The thread author then asked craddock to explain how the tower of life added to the "value of rs".

Here's a quote from the knowledge base:

"many of our staff members are keen players with high-level characters and skills."

I highly doubt this. If they had truely high level characters, they would certainly be able to discern between useful additions to the game and worthless updates.

If the above comment was true, i'm almost certain they would've removed the new mining animation (yes it is slower - I tested it myself!!!). They would've realized the problem on their accounts.

I'm not doubting Jagex moderators have accounts. I'm doubting if they play long and hard enough for them to have any idea of how the average player plays.

I'm doubting whether they can identify with so many player's frustration at the absense of, among other things, Rise of the Red axe part three/continuation to the plague city series/a better bank organization system/adragon pickaxe(also on the "do not suggest" list -.- )/and, perhaps one of the more important ones, A Lasting Solution to Autoers That Doesn't Involve Constantly Wasting Player's Time with Silly Random Events!!!

Of course there are many others out there.

If Jagex would just sit down and ask themselves, before they release an update, is the average player going to use it. If the answer is no, they should modify it until it isn't

Discuss.

It's true, they do have high-lv characters. They're all lv 126!

jmods don't show up on the highscores. I'm talking about the normal accounts they play in their spare time. :?

Oh yea, try Zezima ::'

Oh, whell yea. They said who the game is targeted at. Besides, they have their own accounts, why would they need more? I think Andrew and Mark pop on RuneScape once in a while.

I don't think you understand the point of this thread. I'm asking if Jagex really thinks that the average player will enjoy the useless things they put into the game.

Whell, they try to make us happy. Just noone has found any use of the rune satchel. Probably to store many runes in one satchel, thus you have more space for food.

Yes, i've heard about jagex mods playing as normal accounts so they can get the idea of what the average player really needs. They probably do a lot of research into the game and could be playing on any account so no one would know.

You know, reading this, I realized something:

When I started playing this game, it was just that, a game (that Andrew, Paul, and Ian were working hard to just make better). No stupid random events, no tedious mining motions. Sure there were useless items, and sure there was a boatload of clicking, but it was fundamentally an entertainment experience.

Now it's a business first, a game second. Jagex will devise an infinite number of ways to divert your attention so as to lengthen your membership and turn a profit.

Personally I think horses would be a fantastic addition to RuneScape.

And if there are dragon swords, daggers, battleaxes, dragon woodcutting axes, dragon armor -- why shouldn't there be a dragon pickaxe? I'm sorry is logic a fallacy?

Lol great post. I think I may have finally done the necessary introspection to finally lay my RuneScape days to rest. \'

No they don't. If they did they'd realise the problems there is right now in Rs.

Besides, it kills the purpose when you are able to get all your skills at 99 instanteneously and get every single item you want, do every quest in a click, etc.

However, I did hear Paul say, many years ago, that he played on a normal account when he was not at work.

i do have to say though jagex's new god area sounds interesting and more adult...we will have to sell if jagex has done well or not so well this time

Do mods have accounts? I doubt it. You work 8 hours a day on a computer game 5 days a week, I don't think you want to play the same game in your spare time.

They release a lot of pointless stuff. Agreed. They should put more thought in their new quests and items; there are a lot of deserted locations and items no one uses. However, a lot of those areas are a nice surprise when you walk past them (Hey, I remember this!) and add atmosphere. You could cut half the desert, or the bottom half of the Troll dungeon, but that would create a very straightforward enviroment. Some new items are ugly and stupid, but a lot of those can be used in outfits or are good for low levels. They make people look unique. Even with several years of playing experience I occasionally stumble across a piece of clothing or an outfit I had never thought of wearing or even knew it exists. The Tower of life example isn't very good though; I get my red spider eggs there and it's pretty fast. The satchels however...

But with some updates they really, well, 'slaan de bal mis'. I don't know a good English expression :? . No one was waiting for an update of the mining animation or a make X option for pots and gems. Polls are not a good way to determine wich updates the people want. Only 20% of the RS population votes there, and the suggestion forum is even worse. To really know what the RS community wants they should really play the game and browse the forums.

Paul was S h a r k, and yes jagex mods do play on normal accounts, that doesnt mean they know what the player base needs though.

Random events are not there to waste player's time. They are there to make sure that people can't non-stop idle when training a skill or so on.

How awesome would it be for Runescape if there were no random events?

When I alch every 80 alchs I get teleported away to a place where I don't want to be, I have to spend 2 minutes popping balloons or catching fish, and I get 500gp. I want to alch. I don't want to do those other stupid things. 2 randoms per play session is fine, really. 2 an hour? No thanks. It is very annoying.

How would you know the account a Jagex mod plays on? I thought they said a jmod would never talk about his job on a normal account...

well, you have to think of one important thing... everyone has a different view of a good time, and what is useless to one might not be to another. they're adding content that they would enjoy playing, and they admit to it. if you worked with their content team, you'd be adding what you wanted in-game, and someone else would have the exact same thread posted here.

i'll go with an example of useful/useless to start off. many people would say the meat tenderizer of RFD is a poor weapon to use in combat, as it's basically a rune warhammer with more work involved and a different look. people use it simply because it's a fun weapon to have and looks cool. people use the satchels for looks as well, how many people who wear them do you think actually have a sandwich in there?
