wioneo Posted September 3, 2007 Share Posted September 3, 2007 Ever since I became a member 3 months ago, I've been wanting to go on a few Barrows runs, but all ofd the guides that I've seen advise against it for me. Also, I am extremely cheap/relatively poor, so I didn't think that I could even make an attempt. I think that I have 70 attack, 74 strength, 64 defense, 69 magic, and 61 ranged(and 55 slayer) at the time. What would be suggested levels to train to? I've seen 70 being tossed around. What would be some good ways to train my magic, defense, and ranged? I absolutely refuse to high alch ever again(I did that from 62-66), and I'm not completely sure where those last 3 levels came from :-k I do have chaos gauntlets. I personally prefer to train ranged with kebbit bolts and the hunter crossbow because they hit so much harder and at about the same speed as the MSB with steel arrows. I have about 1.7 million gp at the moment (+800k in the coffers), so I could buy a whip, but I wouldn't have much left over after I did... I had quite a bit more a little while ago which is why I trained attack to 70, but I'd rather not talk about that... Should I save up some more money and buy a whip before I start training defense? For the past 10(I think) I've been trainingattack and strength to reach my goal of 55 slayer, which I did, so what should I train on now? I hate it when I start typing and end up with a huge block of text, but any help would be greatly apreciated. DarkSano Posted September 3, 2007 Share Posted September 3, 2007 u can do what i do even though im cb 115 i just mage 4/6 brothers with slayer bolt just need death runes and mind runes which u can get back from chest mage level is decent enough to do decent damage with slayer dart prayer is whats gonna c ount and p pots the other 2 brothers i just dragon dagger spec em to death if they dont die whip till the end thats pretty much all u need my way most others just use full veracs so up to you Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

DarkSano Posted September 3, 2007 Share Posted September 3, 2007 depends on prayer level i can do 5trips without teleing with 9-10 p pots im 75 prayer also i wear full proselyte armor minus the helm god book trimmed cape for prayer bonus think im around 25+ prayer bonus with that still that way is expensive if u buy the ranaars i just theive master farmers and plant the ranaar seeds this way i dont spend on seeds im sure theres better ways but thats the way i do it and i have no problem Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Also, how do you get home tele tabs? It looks as though you need 67 construction to make your own(or maybe I misunderstood tip.it's table), and there is no way that I'll have the cash to pay for that...yet. Even with your current stats, you could do barrows for fun. However, the lower you are, the slower you'll be and the more it'll cost (as you'll need more supplies to stay alive). Therefore, with lower levels, you can do it, but it may not be good profit. Well, you've got almost great stats to begin Barrows without using prayer potions, all you need is 70+ defence. I'd also suggest getting one more magic level to 70, since you should use Slayer Dart at Barrows, and that'll be a new max hit. 1.7M should certainly be enough to purchase starting supplies, especially since you probably already have some equipment. I'd suggest this setup, as it is fairly cheap: Berserker/Neitiznot (optional +Farseer) Torag's platebody > Rune platebody Verac's plateskirt > Dragon plateskirt > Rune legs Amulet of Glory God cape Slayer staff God book (Zamorak > Guthix) Rune boots (Or mystic if you don't have rune) Best RFD gloves > Chaos gauntlets > Mystic gloves Ring of Life Inventory: Spade, one click teleport, deaths+minds (150+ casts per trip), d'hide top+chaps, MSB/rune crossbow, one prayer potion, one normal defence potion, your melee weapon, and the rest monkfish. You don't need to take a whip, since you really don't need to melee Karil. Dragon scimitar or longsword for tunnels will be perfect. I already have a netznot, rune plate, rune legs, glory, bonesack lol, slayer staff, incomplete guthix book, steel boots lol, mith gloves(about to get 70 cooking), ring of life, runes for 200 casts, a few prayer potions and ranaars, a few defense pots, 50 or so monks, red dhide, a dragon scimmy, a magic shortbow(what arrows should i use?). I suppose that I should start training defence...I was holding off on that until I bought a whip, but maybe I could sell my kingdom's stuff and buy the whip... I think that the God Wars Dungeon caused a drop in the price of those and rune boots. I already have about 500 chaoses from mazes and a few thousand fires from slayer monsters(harpies and desert lizards drop a lot) to train magic a bit. What bonuses does the god cape give? I just got this bonesack and it has +4 defense for everything(which is a step up from my spotted cape lol). atronic92 Posted September 4, 2007 Share Posted September 4, 2007 Getting to barrows: I suggest completing "In Search of the Myreque" and "Ghosts Ahoy!". To get to Canifis, either house teleport and step through your Karyrll portal, or run from the Ectofuntus. Then use the Myreque shortcut behind the bar, and run south to the swamp boaty. Take the swamp boaty, and walk the rest of the way to barrows. Suggested levels: 70 attack, strength, and defence; 55 slayer; 65 magic; 60+ range; 70 hitpoints This is what I suggest you wear: Torag plate: for defense Verac skirt: for defense and prayer bonus Rune boots: for defense and strength bonus to speed kill count God book: prayer bonus and magic attack bonus (try not to bring saradomin) God cape: magic attack bonus RFD gloves: best gloves for anything Glory amulet: don't risk a fury! Adamant arrows: not as expensive as rune. Buy from Brian's archery shop in Rimmington. They are usually cheaper there. (Rune are good too.) Slayer staff: to cast slayer dart! : Ring of life: just in case... Don't worry about the negative magic attack bonus, you will almost never miss because the barrow's brothers have such low negative defense bonuses, and Karil has a low magic level, which is where a lot of magic defense comes from. With this in your inventory: Spade: necessary for barrows Ectophial: To teleport out. Preferably replaced with house teletabs so that you can teleport to your house, pray at your alter, and then exit through your Karyrll (Canifis) portal. Runes: to cast slayer dart. I use about 75 casts per trip, the extra are for just in case. With a low magic level I would bring 200 casts, and have 300 more banked. (you don't know when you will lose deaths from a run) Dragon longsword: for when you need to kill skeletons/blood worms/spiders/rats in the tunnels to raise kill count. Also, if you run out of casts you might need to use it to finish off your tunnel brother. (I have had to melee Karil before) You substitute a dragon scimitar, but I think using a whip is risking too much for a small improvement. Dragon hide and magic shortbow: replace with your best dragon hide or Karil's armor. Could use Karil's X-bow. Used for ranging Ahrim. Prayer potions: I usually don't use any unless I have Karil in the tunnels, or when a tunnel Dharok spawns in a room without a safespot. Potatoes: You could also use monkfish. Sharks are too expensive and unneeded, and lobster or swordfish don't heal enough. My method: Bear in mind that if you come across your tunnel brother, just skip him. You will kill him later. 1. Kill Dharok, pray the whole time. 2. Kill Karil with leftover prayer. If you have under 20 prayer points, drink a dose of your prayer potion before. Otherwise, with 20+ prayer points, don't waste a dose on Karil. (If you have a higher prayer level, you will probably never need to drink a dose of your prayer potion, unless your magic is low.) 3. A. If you have any inventory spots empty, put on your dragonhide/Karils, and wield your bow. Kill Ahrim. Use as many magic shortbow special attacks as you can. If you have any prayer remaining after Karil, pray. B. If you don't have any inventory spots empty, kill Verac. C. But if you don't have any inventory spots empty and you have prayer left, kill Torag and use the last of your prayer on him. Don't drink another dose! Use food on him if you need to. 4. A. If you just killed Ahrim, now kill Verac. Do not pray, you will not need to. Simply eat when you need to. If you want to, use the sidestep method. If you don't know what that is, then don't worry about it. B. If you killed Torag or Verac and have any empty inventory spots, kill Ahrim. If you still haven't used any food, kill the other one of these two. 5. A. If you still have to kill Ahrim, even if you waste a food, kill him now. B. If you already killed Ahrim, kill Torag and Verac. Skip one that you've already killed. 6. Kill Guthan. Don't use prayer! 7. Go into the tunnel. If you have a melee brother in the tunnel, head to one of the corner rooms, where you can safespot them. If you don't know where the safespots are, I suggest that you look at a guide. When you get to a door with a safespot on each side, repeatedly go through it until your tunnel brother appears. Lure him to a safespot, and kill him. Ignore attacking skeletons. If the melee brother appears where there is no safespot, pretend that you were killing him in his crypt. If you come across Dharok, then pray on him. Otherwise, just eat. 8. If Ahrim is in the tunnels, wear your dragon hide and wield your bow. Keep going through the first door that you come to to spawn him, and kill him without prayer. 9. If you have Karil in the tunnels, Do the same as with Ahrim but pray! Karil can be very dangerous without prayer. Do not go back through a door to prepare for Karil, or you might have to kill two Karils! Just drink two doses of your prayer pot, and snap on protection from range to kill Karil. 10. Raise your kill count by killing random monsters in the tunnels. There is proof that having over 20 kill count helps, so I suggest getting 21 kill count. 11. Get to the chest. It's helpful to memorize the answers to some of the puzzles. Open your chest, search it, and hope for something good. Then teleport out, and restock your supplies for another run. davidium Posted September 4, 2007 Share Posted September 4, 2007 he doesnt want a guide to barrows...he wants to know the stats he should get and whether he should up them. you should be okie doing barrows just make sure you use prayer against all the brothers, at least for the first few runs. and 50 monks wont last you for more than 4 trips so go fish/buy more. the number of pray doses you will use depends on your prayer lvl. mine is 61 and i usually use around 4 doses of prayer pot (2 on karil and 2 on dharok unless dharok is my tunnel bro then i dont have to use prayer: safe spot). i use 4 doses cause i dont go to an alter to recharge prayer but i suggest you do that if you are tight on cash. i wouldnt suggest buying whip cause you dont really need melee stats for barrows and i advise you not to take a whip into the barrows...when i first started out i took a rune scim :D but you can take a d long/scim if you feel more courageous. of course if you are thinking of training def just buy the whip, train def up then sell it for money to buy supplies. it is perfectly fine to wear full rune and use slayer dart on all the brothers (except ahrim) as their magic def is low. besides, it will protect you better in the tunnel and you should not carry mystic robes and full rune and range outfit as it just takes up too much space and if you die your losses will be much more. and it is important to use full rune when fighting guthan cause even if u pray he can still heal on you (although you wont take any damage) ahrim may prove to be a bit of a trouble for your range level but just use pray pots and you should be fine as he can hit consistent 10-20s. i think im one of those few ppl who take him on without prayer...but then ive 99 def, 95 magic and 97 range so he dies fairly fast. to end of, deaths are expected at the barrows (especially against dharok the WRETCHED) so do be prepared to lost some items. i think ive died 3 times there so far but that was at a much lower lvls. dont worry though even if your luck is average you should be able to more than cover your losses with a spear/g helm or v helm. maxed out melee on 10/10/08, current goal: 94/99 cookinglife may be unfair, but why can't it be unfair in my favor?my fake plant died because i forgot to pretend to water it Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

By the time that I'm done with the fishing I should have a decent amount of money earned to buy that whip without bankrupting myself, and then I suppose I'll train defense(maybe at pest control). I'll have to calculate how much I'll need to pay to get 50 construction though... I already have a netznot, rune plate, rune legs, glory, bonesack lol, slayer staff, incomplete guthix book, steel boots lol, mith gloves(about to get 70 cooking), ring of life, runes for 200 casts, a few prayer potions and ranaars, a few defense pots, 50 or so monks, red dhide, a dragon scimmy, a magic shortbow(what arrows should i use?). I suppose that I should start training defence...I was holding off on that until I bought a whip, but maybe I could sell my kingdom's stuff and buy the whip... I think that the God Wars Dungeon caused a drop in the price of those and rune boots. I already have about 500 chaoses from mazes and a few thousand fires from slayer monsters(harpies and desert lizards drop a lot) to train magic a bit. What bonuses does the god cape give? I just got this bonesack and it has +4 defense for everything(which is a step up from my spotted cape lol). --Mage Karil, you'll rarely splash even on him. --Upgrade to rune boots, only about 150k nowadays. Buy the remaining two Guthix pages. The rest is good, but you might want to consider upgrading to Barrows armor if you're going for profit from Barrows. --Buy adamant or rune arrows. Ankous drop lots of adamants, and fire giants drop decent rune arrows. You can buy defence potions and cheese potatoes for very cheap from the Warrior's Guild, although you might have to hop around a bit between worlds. --You don't need a whip to train defence. :P Dragon scimitar will work fine. --God cape gives +10 magic attack and defence. --Another option is if you run out of Slayer Dart runes and don't want to buy more, you can use Fire Bolt with Chaos Gauntlets. Rune would work but would need to eat better food, I use lobbys and never had to tele out. Whip is advised but d scim would work just as well. Ahrims slash defences are lowest so a good slashing weapon is best - Whip > d scim > d long (if not done MM) I'd say that get 70 in every combat and 43 prayer for all the protects, I end up with 35 prayer after Dharok from 60 currently. 70's allow you to wear black dhide (a godsend), and hit 17 with slayer dart (magic level/10 rounded down + 10) 99: Agility 28/12/14|Thieving 20/03/15 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I just did my first barrows run after I finished the Awowogwei parf of RFD, which was extremely annoying because I burned the frikken snake three times, so I basically didn't do any of the things that i said I would to prepare. This was my setup, just so that you guys know I didn't buy ANYTHING on this screen except for my rune plate and legs which I've had since classic. I also bought the dds because I hate herblore... Yes, that is the bonesack from the Rag and bone man quest, that IS an empty guthix book, and I DID use kebbit bolts. I can buy the rune gloves, but I'm holding off on buying a new pair until I can get the barrows ones. I used up all of my monkfish. So, first I went to dharock and prayed the whole time, then I used 1 dose of prayer potion to kill karil(my dds specs did a total of 6 damage, but did poison)also with magic, then I went to guthan and would have died if I didn't start praying and drink two potions, I wore the red dhide and torag never hit me :-k does he really suck that bad? Then I checked the verac mound and the tunnel was there, then I killed ahrim and used a good number of monkfish. I wasted a few because I clicked too much. Now I went into the tunnels which were extremely confusing for me... I ended up with a killcount of 15, but I never attacked anything. I just ran around aimlessly until I saw two red 15 splashes which confused me, and then I saw a yellow arrow pointing into the blackness of a tiny little hallway that I'd just left. I went in the door and tried not to pray, but i kept getting 11-15s. After I put on protect melee, he only hit one or two 12s. After that it took me about 5 minutes to find the chest :oops: Are you supposed to teleport back to your house at this point? I didn't do the training I should have... So I just teled to lumbridge after a rock hit me in the face. I forgot to check my supplies before I opened the chest, but I started with 200 deaths and 800 minds, so I lost a few deaths, but I have no idea how many I got from the chest. I ended up maging all of the brothers except for ahrim, is there a better way? That was easier than I expected, and I did waste a lot of food and probably could have gotten by using 3 prayer doses(I used 5), but I won't try that again until I finish RFD, build up my house, and train ranged, magic, and defence a bit. What are the max hits of rune and addy arrows? I was getting pretty consistant 6-8s on ahrim, and my max hit is 10-11 I believe. Any more tips would be greatly appreciated. atronic92 Posted September 5, 2007 Share Posted September 5, 2007 Here are some tips: Don't try to melee Karil until you are stronger. Magic still works well on him. All your levels are good, you should be able to make it with only 1 prayer pot dose, unless Karil is in the tunnel because you have to pray on him. Consider getting better equipment. It is quite an accomplishment to have only self-made equipment, but if there's something better, why not use it? Barrows armor helps a lot, especially Verac's because it provides a prayer bonus. Try to fill that Guthix prayer book. Bring a god cape. Get better boots, like Mystic/Infinity or Rune/Adamant/Dragon. Get better gloves. DON'T buy dragon gloves (they cost as much as Barrows gloves), but DO buy rune gloves (They are only ~10-15k). (But Barrow's gloves are still the preferred option.) If your (hunter?) crossbow works well, keep it. Otherwise, get a MSB and Adamant or Rune arrows. You should first fight Dharok with prayer, and then fight Karil with prayer. Drink a prayer pot dose in between if you have less than half of your prayer left. You might still need another dose when fighting Karil. If you have prayer left after that, use it on Ahrim. He is pretty dangerous because you have to range him. I have about the same range level as you, so I feel that this is a good suggestion. Learn the tunnel safespots. They will make a Dharok tunnel a godsend instead of a curse, because you will have lots of prayer for Karil and definitely some left over for Ahrim, and you can just safespot Dharok. You can never be too cautious! One wrong move and you're dead! On the other hand, being too tense will make you prone to mistakes. You don't 100% need 50 construction, a house portal, and house teletabs. Using an ectophial and then walking to Canifis can give you some time to relax between runs. Always remember your ring of life and other essentials. I have forgotten runes countless times and also food before. Don't use sharks unless you have to. They will erase your profits of 25-50k per rune worth of runes, and monkfish are good enough. You will probably want room for at least 18 monkfish. I bring 18, and use anywhere from 6 to all of them on any run, and I have better equipment than you. Don't be discouraged if you don't get a Barrows item in X runs. davidium Posted September 5, 2007 Share Posted September 5, 2007 i suggest you find out more about the underground map before going in again to minimize time lost and the longer you are in there the more food you are gonna be needing. i usually just fight blood worms and crypt rats and avoid the skeletons and other crappy monsters which hit pretty high and take a longer while to kill. yea torag is rather weak and he was my first brother that i stopped using prayer on. however he can still be pretty lucky sometimes and usually when he hits a 20 he will hit another again. always use the safespots in the tunnel as much as possible which will save you a lot of trouble...go find out the various safe spots to maximize your prayer pots. always remember to bring an ectophial/teletab as they will serve you well in a tight spot (e.g. your tunnel brother is dharok and your prayer accidentally ran out, rather common, and he hits you 50+ but you managed to kill him! then u get a guthan spear from chest but realise that you only have 5 hp and no food left with rocks about to fall on your head...) just pray on dharok, veracs and guthan till you become more confident. well if u decide to get your mage up to use ancients it will be btr since no prayer pots...well maybe just one dose if you tunnel bro is karil :D maxed out melee on 10/10/08, current goal: 94/99 cookinglife may be unfair, but why can't it be unfair in my favor?my fake plant died because i forgot to pretend to water it Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
