I don't understand why people would want an inferior technologyVHS was technically inferior to Betamax... 85% of consumers opt for a PC over a Mac.... go figure. Just because something is more advanced, doesn't mean it will win. There's lots of other factors at work, not least of which is cost.

Mercifull's analogy was reasonable because we're still talking about storage media.. but PC/Mac? Come on

Especially since PC's are more advanced
October 19, 200718 yr Eh besides storage capacity is there a difference? HD-DVD is region free, Blu-Ray is not.

Just because something is more advanced, doesn't mean it will win. There's lots of other factors at work, not least of which is cost. Not a good analogy Harrington, lol. Especially since PC's are more advanced  Why not? :( The Mac is considerably more advanced than the PC, it looks better, and is far more reliable with a much better operating system. Yet the vast majority of consumers opt for the cheaper, inferior PC (inluding myself lol). The reason is simple... cost, availability and compatibility. The analogy applies as blu-ray is a superior tech to HD-DVDs however, will likely lose the battle due to costs and lack of titles. The analogy fits perfecty lol  Another good example is the PS3 vs the Wii. Despite the PS3 being the most advanced tech', it's being outsold by the Wii 6 to 1!!! Why? Simple... cost again. I'm confident HD-DVDs will win in the end for the reasons listed above. I'm so confident, I've already asked the Missus to buy me an HD player for my Xmas :)
October 19, 200718 yr Considerably more advanced? It looks better I'll give you that, but the PC has endless configurations compared to the Mac. Mac Pro doesn't even offer the Geforce 8 Series Saying OS X is better than Vista for ex. is reaching as it is, but the hardware? Haha.
October 19, 200718 yr You're missing the point, lets get back to the HD discussions now Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. October 19, 200718 yr Sure thing General Troll Bluray sales account for 71% recently. I think it's hopeless trying to buy HD DVD. Even with Paramount's support, it's just not enough.
October 19, 200718 yr Depends where u get ure stats from. Toshiba report a 55% HD DVD lead vs Blu-ray at 42% for number of players sold and Adams Media Research puts it at 58%. Its far to early to say what's going to be the winner yet no matter how many stats and figures you pull off for either/or. October 19, 200718 yr Players != Discs Even then, those numbers don't include PS3 sales which is *the* most attractive (not just aesthetically speaking) Bluray player

October 20, 200718 yr What I proved was that you can get statistics to support either argument. Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. October 21, 200718 yr Author What I proved was that you can get statistics to support either argument. Like Mercifull said... totally depends on the source of statistics. If either format had a REAL lead, then they'd be the first to publish those stats and we'd all know about it. Gotta keep the shareholders happy... and not mislead them (Like Dreamworks did). What I'm trying to say is that if one format truly did have a clear sales lead, then trust me... they'd be the first to let everyone know. These "independent" stat collectors are for the most part, being encouraged by the individual formats with backhanders and other incentives. Even the honest ones simply aren't collecting the data correctly.
October 21, 200718 yr So wait. You don't believe research from Nielsen and prefer to hear the companies talk about their sales? Uhh...
October 21, 200718 yr So wait. You don't believe research from Nielsen and prefer to hear the companies talk about their sales? Uhh... :lol:Nielsen still only gets their data from samples. There is no census survey to find this all out so you can "" and "" all you like but it doesn't make you right. October 21, 200718 yr You're right But I'm just laughing because corporations won't openly discuss sales because it's acceptance(?) by the consumers is incredibly slow. If you're comparing BR:HDDVD, one might come up on top. But once you include the sales of DVDs, then the next-gen hype just crumbles.
October 21, 200718 yr People want HD content but we have all grown accustomed to cheap DVD and player prices and nobody wants to fork out half a grand for a player and ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã30 for a movie when it might not win the format war. Yup, in a nutshell really lol. Guess we're gonna have to wait a good bit longer before there is clear winner and we can eventually spend our hard earned money ;)
January 6, 200818 yr Author After hearing the news last night, that Warner have decided to go exclusive on blu-ray, I've finally decided to go with the blu-ray format (Matrix yay!) So, bought a PS3 today, woohoo!

I wonder how Universal and Paramount will react to Warner jumping formats. The future of the HD-DVD format would definately be in doubt if either of those two leave it, whereas Blu-ray could probably handle losing one or more.

Apparently digg users are on the Blu-ray bandwagon, so I got a lot of propaganda from there that may or may not be true, but some were saying that Universal decided to go both formats. EDIT: More info. This link says New Line decided to switch to Blu-Ray, but that Universal is still up in the air.
