Nadril
Remember that EA "acquired" valve a while ago too, and also Mythic. Generally this just means they take care of packaging and what not -- hopefully it won't be bad.
Mr_Putter
Well, there goes the gaming industry. They'd better not touch KOTOR..if they decide to make another one :(They don't have the rights to KOTOR, they only have Bioware/Pandemics original IPs. Star Wars publishing is exclusive to Lucas Arts. And they also don't have the rights to any Baldur's Gate/Neverwinter Nights games, for the same reason. It shouldn't be too bad; people complain a bit too much about EA. Like Nadril said, many people I've talked to don't even seem to realise that Valve had Ep1 and now the Orange Box are distributed by EA, and flip out when they see the tiny logo on the box. And if anyone made another KOTOR it would probably be Obsidian anyway.

While EA original titles may be bad for many reasons (not for this thread) the companies they buy they really don't have any say in.
stevepole
It shouldnt be bad. As long as EA lets them do what they where doing little interference.
Flamecaller
What I don't understand is why EA doesn't change how they do business. The gaming community is probably the only market in the world smart enough to not take your [cabbage], and thus, are not ones to be trifled with. People hate EA because they push out games that suck [wagon]. The first Madden through to the last one are all essentially THE SAME GAME, the rosters are just upgraded and they upgraded graphics accordingly on new systems. Nothing changed. No story-lines, no new game-play...nothing. Now, it's hard to make sports "new" since it's pretty straight-forward...It's just a sport, period, and that's what the customers want, but seriously...They're making people pay full-price for nothing new. It's ridiculous and that's why people hate them. Forget their hostile business tactics (snatching up other companies, buying huge amounts of competitor's stock, etc), because gamers likely don't care or don't even know about that crap. EA is one of the biggest gaming companies around. Second biggest now, I believe...THQ took them over for #1 if I'm not mistaken. Or maybe it was Activision...No matter, they lost the #1 spot because gamers are onto their [cabbage]. Like I said, you can't trifle with our market. We're not the general sheeps who buy everything you throw at them. We are the internet. We are legion. We are strong. :P "If I did break into a hotel room to steal my trophies, this is how it happened."

Anyways they don't change their methods because the way they do it now makes them a lot of money. Put out the same game every year with a new roster and sell a million copies makes some pretty good money for the amount invested.

These are the people who eat up Sims 3913 and every Madden sequel and whatever other junk comes from publishers such as EA.
Umega
I heard this a few months ago with Pandemic. Pandemic Studios are making Mercenaries 2 at the moment and it looks really good! EA have actually given Pandemic more time to make the game. I'm in close touch with Pandemic's news about the game because I've got a forum account there. Pandemic actually chose EA to be there publishers, because their former publishers LucasArts have had a bad relationship together and Pandemic wanted the rights for the game for themselves, not LucasArts. EA ain't that bad IMO. No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.
