Usergroups are a way in which board administrators can group users. Each user can belong to several groups (this differs from most other boards) and each group can be assigned individual access rights. This makes it easy for administrators to set up several users as moderators of a forum, or to give them access to a private forum, etc

Correct, Also Usergroups is a feature on Tip.It already now. So, If it's there, It meens Tip.It may be working on it. And If they have the reason to, they will.

IIRC, there are already several groups/boards, and all of the groups/special boards are hidden, to keep annoying kids like me out, or whoever is not in them out =P

I think it is an interesting idea, having people grouped based on their rank (which is assigned based on post count). I'm not sure how many people would notice it, however. Very few people notice the buttons on the top of the forum.

 

 

 

Using usergroups as part of the administration of this forum is something that is done, yes. But many of these usergroups are hidden/private so people don't normally see them.

 

 

 

Anyways, maybe suggest some more specific ideas regarding usergroups and/or private/premium boards associated with those usergroups? I would find those to be an interesting idea to pursue. Still, don't get discouraged if your ideas do not get a great response.. know that people do appreciate you posting them! And even some of the suggestions that get nothing but negative responses get implemented and turn out to do very well.

Tip.it does use usergroups for permissions/moderator powers, etc. I have no idea if there are any other groups.

 

 

 

Basically, almost all of what has been said in this thread is already at work behind the scenes.

 

 

 

I would caution against adding new forums because most clans already have their own, separate forums and more forums mean more moderation. Even a private forum is still accessible to the admins, so it's not truely secret. Also, more forums will lengthen the page more for the admins.

It would be hard to moderate all these forums though. Mods already have enough on their plates let alone dealing with a usergroup with lots of people joining in and all that. Plus if we give some people mod powers in the usergroup subforums they could delete everything. Then that would bring up the problem of who would be a good mod, which is more work.

Anyway its an interesting idea that's been raised in the past even by me (but not to the degree your stating). I wouldn't mind the opportunity for a few established members of TIF's being able to have a usergroup just for them. Though from what I've heard there's already been one established by Forsaken many an age ago, yet I'm still waiting for the invitation to join that private usergroup. :P

Anything regarding the Rank System is just a blatent advertisement for spamming, in my honest opinion. I haven't really got a comment on the actual focus of this topic, but if it involves a rank system... no.

Agreed, and for using new forums, calls for new moderators. Tip.It doesn't need that many moderators around here. I don't think it's realy a need for it to be one.
